I received my DF54 two weeks ago and it’s worth the wait. It’s great for espresso and V60. I totally agree with all your points here.

You could get a df54 and a eureka filtro and have both filter and espresso covered for $425 same as df64 but DLC burrs on Turin.

Love the precise and straight to the point pacing of this review. Would you say DF54 and DF64 Gen 2 (stock burrs) perform similarly on espresso but DF64 Gen 2 is better on filter coffee?

Great video as usual. Out of curiosity, did you like the taste of the KINGrinder K6 or the DF54 better? Also, what is the black espresso machine behind you? It looks similar to the Profitec Go.

Thanks! It’s been a while since I’ve used the K6 and I haven’t compared them sides by side. I’ll have to try and get back to you. The espresso machine is actually the Turin Legato with a black wrap I did 😝

How do you think the filter would compare using this grinder vs. a basic entry level 38mm conical burr? I’m looking for an affordable flat burr for my pour overs and espresso too but more filter. Another DF grinder maybe?

Great review! Question, you mentioned the rubber piece that holds the dosing cup - Would you happen to know if the material is natural rubber latex or synthetic rubber/silicone? The same question regarding the bellows -- I have an allergy and have been trying to see if I can crowdsource some opinions on that material!

Hi compare to df64 1st gen , for espresso only, which one would you like to recommend? Because in my country df64 1st gen is 20$ cheaper than df54

It’s been a while since I’ve had or used a 1st gen DF64 with standard burrs but if memory serves I think the DF54 is a little better for espresso. The burr geometry of the newer DF standard burrs is better for espresso vs the older standard burrs in my opinion, but it also depends on your taste preferences and the types of coffees you like. The other advantage to the newer DF grinders is the plasma generator, it really helps with static and keeps the mess way down vs the 1st gen DF’s. But if it’s cheaper to get the DF64 I don’t think it’s a bad buy, just use RDT to help with the static, and since it’s got 64mm burrs you could always upgrade to a better burr in the future.

1-4 for espresso? I’m getting mine closer to 10-12. That variation is wild. Haven’t gotten them to touch yet, so I’m just guessing my touch point is closer to 0 than yours. Interesting.

Yeah I’ve been talking to some people and there seems to be some variation in how the dial indicators read. My best guess is that when they’re installing the dial stickers on to the housing they’re not being placed in a standardized location. I just thought they were being safe with the touch point since I didn’t have anything else to base it off of till people started sharing their experiences like you. Thanks for another validation on this! 😊

  • @coffeenerdaaron

Yes I would, it helps along with the ionizer to keep the static and rogue particles under control, especially with light roasts.

For most coffees I like on espresso I’m usually in the 1-4 range. I just pulled a 1:3 shot of a light roast Costa Rica Anaerobic Caturra at setting 2. It was 18g in 55g out in 25 seconds in the Turin Legato with a Normcore bottomless portafilter and MHW DEX 18g basket.

I'm doing Espresso around 15. I think if the touch point is so far in the negative range it might not be aligned correctly. At ~4 I just get fine dust out. No way to make espresso with that.
