A Simple Way to Improve Healers and Casual Content in FFXIV

    The downside of releasing videos a week earlier for supporters is that sometimes I just get outright proven wrong during that week! Despite saying to look forward to 7.2, even base Dawntrail already has major improvements to casual content difficulty and healing requirements, and I've been having a lot of fun just spamming Expert, so this already isn't as big a deal. It's definitely still worth talking about, since healers are just getting a bunch more conditional abilities that pile more healing on, and it still remains to see how much of that will actually be needed in the first savage tier. Regardless, they've made major steps to fix the encounter design side of the coin already, so if they also fix the job design side we can really see some spectacular normal content, even beyond the already extremely well received DT suite. I want a dungeon with a final boss that's harder than an ARR extreme. People can take that now.

    My brother in christ, no, people can't handle that. Believe me when I say I've seen numerous runs where I've had to solo the last boss as a tank. You have not seen some of the day 1 runs on things like Diamond Weapon NORMAL MODE. People cannot handle an ARR EX level dungeon boss. 😂 There is a large part of the community that doesn't do EX, let alone anything above that. You are severely out of touch. Should stick to what you know, Xeno-series stuff. Not even the first bad take you've had either, sadly. >.>

    @@celestialkitsune People _can_ handle it. A shocking amount of people think they can't, but in reality, they just don't want to. Because god forbid they be asked to do anything engaging or difficult in the endgame content of a video game. We are 100 levels and 5 expansions deep. The players need to stop getting babied at some point, and the difficulty of normal content should be balanced such that it prepares and encourages people to then move onto harder stuff like EX's. If it's too easy, then the difficulty gap between normal content and the literal next tier of difficulty up scares away people from even wanting to try it.

    ​@@randomnpc445 And yet SE will never stop babying players. The jobs only get more and more streamlined and, frankly, easier. You don't even need to line up buffs any longer. It's literally just 1 or 2 minute windows now. Next thing you know, they'll make pots follow that as well.

    If people feel pressure about resurrections just allow Pheonix Downs to be carried and manage which content it’s allowed in. - Open world ofcourse - Dungeons yes - Trials maybe - Raids and Alliance unsure - Extreme, Ultimates, Savages definitely not (healers should have pressure there)

    This is honestly the best and easiest option, Phoenix downs have existed since the beginning and could make for an easier way to help with the whole ‘healer dies’ everyone loses. Just give them the long timer to use them like the various Res’ have, a long cooldown to prevent res cheesing and it’d be perfectly fine for stuff like dungeons and normal trials and Raids would still have a reason to still use RDM and SMN for the swift cast res.

    I was not expecting a FFXIV upload from you. Kinda funny that the healer issue has been addressed somewhat with DT. Those trials and expert dungeons hit *hard*, but we'll have to see how this continues later on into DTs lifespan. Make more FFXIV videos man, definitely want to see more

    They hit hard because we have low item lvl, when the tome and craft gear arrive you will feel the difference

    plus, all this content is brand new, after time and general Ilevel power creep is when we’ll find out if the content still stays difficult

    If they ever add reraise it should have a 5 minute cool down and 16 second cast time with the buff also only lasting 5 minutes

    @@Coaltergeist Yeah swiftcast exist, so that would be OP even with long cast time... it need to be single use/encounter for balance sake or swiftcast can't affect it.

    I love the idea that each reraise ability starts with Re-, between Rerise, Resurrect, Rewind, and Resuscitate. Resuscitate specifically could be so flavorful with like the nouliths forming a lightning bolt from the boss to you

    bit of an idea, maybe have the limit break do that, have the first two bars act as different potency's then the third still doing what it currently does, since as jocat says we already have enough bandaids and lollipops

    Another option would be to give all other jobs the ability "first aid" (or something like that if that is the name of some existing healer ability). Basically give everyone ability to raise their fallen partymembers with some obvious disadvantages. - It would depend of who is raising as well as who is being raise. - raising HLR would be the fastest, then TNK, then DPS - raising as TNK would be fastest, then HLR, then DPS - for this ability the one raising whould have to stand (or crouch) by the fallen partymemmbers body - it would have a long timer and long cast time (even in the fastest situation where tank is raising a healer or healer raising a healer) That way the situation would stay very close to what it is now, but there would be an added chance for party to raise their healers at price of one of them having to stop their attacks and risk being hit. Hell, it could even lead to some fun situations where the tank needs to shield the raising player while they get their healer back up.

    It would be really cool if the astro self res worked like divine anchor in the minecraft ars magica mod where you cast the spell to save your location, hp and mana and get a buff with that data, and after the buff runs out those three are restored bo matter if you died or not.

    My thought as I was listening that obviously would need further tweaks afterward was just "split up the LB so that each role has a LB for themselves, nerf them slightly so that each role gets an ultimate they have to work for, but also limits how much you can use it."

    I think the easiest possible "improvement" is to give healers a longer cast time (3sec base) that hits harder than their usual spam. It gives you the tradeoff of more damage but you cannot weave anything, and if you need to panic you will have to stop casting. Its incredibly easy to add this. It doesnt necesarily fix the problem, but at least you're not mindlessly spamming the same button, you have at least a choice to make between 2 buttons and a potential punishment for making a bad choice. And as silly as it sounds, hitting 2 buttons alterantively simply is more fun than hitting 1 even if its not a complex choice And yes obviously, the healing kits are too big/strong

    I love the idea, but having a self-res will mean high-level players are just going to use it to cheese mechanics, therefore "ruining" it for the rest of us (in the eyes of the developer I mean; see Black mage nonstandard) BTW Astro is not only time mage, but also geomancer in ffxiv, so maybe something to draw from there?

    Yea that is a bit of a slippery slope. I guess they could make some mechanics nullify the self res to prevent egregious cheesing (even make the doom status nullify self res). That way it would still work as intended as a nice safety net but players would still need to respect some mechanics so they can’t treat it as a universal free get out of jail card.

    SE never ever going to increase difficulty of dungeons. It’s why they created variant/critearian dungeons.

    Simple way to fix healers nerf tanks self healing warrior is the biggest offender in this but all tanks except dark knight have some form of self healing that makes healers job semi redundant I mention dark knight because I have not lvl100 with it yet and don’t know if any of its new kit puts it on the list here but yeah don’t even need to nerf anything else with tanks just their self healing boom healers valuable again

    Luxin, I'd love to see a big breakdown/critique of Dawntrails story and the overall presentation of FFXIVs storytelling format in 2024 from you. FFXIV could really use some critical analysis rather than the blind praise the playbase generally has for the game and with player sentiment coming to a head more than it ever has before in Dawntrail now would be a great time to share any thoughts you might have.

    We could try to not make the game easier? Idk I think a reraise is a bad idea. It's almost taking away consequences of actions. There is no excitement for doing something the first time and having the game be set so you can't fail... But I could be wrong about it or alone on this one. Just sounds boring to me.

    Make casual content more difficult? No ty it casusl content and us casusl dont need or want that we HATE DIFFICULT CONTENT it why we havebour own easy content.as for healer they should learn to focus on healin go then crying their nothing h eal when tank never above 50% hp in easiest content in game (only because idiots aka pro healer dont understand that getting tanks low isnt good just because you have 1 special heal made for emergency if tankbuster fails )

    Except with what seems to be Dawntrail's answer to encounters being enemies soak and deal way more damage, it's important for the healer to do DPS as well. The tank should be trusted to handle themself for at least 6 seconds while you do some damage. Not to mention it's important to get the full potency from each of your healing spells, just keeping them topped off is going to be a waste of mana in the long run. The tanks have a big health bar, it's okay to let them use that big health bar as long as you aren't sadistically keeping them in the red

    @@kh2fan145 but using ONLY THE 1 TO 2 BIG HEAL DOES NOT MEAN USING YOUR HEALING KIT. the casusl tank have no need for extra stress we dont like being low while DOING OUR JOB i wouldnt also waste 5 MIT BECAUSE THE HEALER REFUSED TO DO 1 HEAL .we dont need stress in casual content it the fuking reason WE ARE PLAYING IT .

    @anteprs7908 using mits is fine unless you're exclusively in ARR content, and they have minute long cooldowns at the earliest. Especially with how dungeons are set up you will have more than enough time between pulls to get mits back either during the next pull, or the mid boss fights. This feels more like you're just panicky while playing Tank, and you need to better understand that both sides need to have some kind of trust between them, healers need to trust that tanks will use mits to keep themselves alive even if they aren't receiving constant heals, and tanks need to trust that the Healer will keep them and the party alive to the best of their abilities. It's completely fine to use your mits and even invuln, it's why they exist. You shouldn't hoard them and die for it and then blame the healers.

    our entire kit is effectively an ult. Healers are already too strong relative to the content.
