I graduated from photography and seen many youtube videos and i’ve never encountered someone explaining the real difference between these lenses with clarity besides “one is wider” and the other “zooms closer”. 💯👏 Amazing video.

Thank you for explaining this better than anyone else! I love your comment, the landscape tells you what lens to use. Really helped me realize I need a mid-range lens and eventually to save for a telephoto lens. Thank you!

I've gotten back into photography over the past 2 years. I'm limiting myself to 1 lens a year for my bday/Xmas. That's then the only lens I use and I force myself to make it work. It's made me such a better photographer

A very simple yet powerful message. I also like how you break down the focal length ranges into digestible 'segments.' It's taken me quite a few years to finally feel comfortable knowing which lenses that I REALLY need to cover all the scenarios and which lenses are really just 'extras' for me. Of course this may be different for different people depending on what they shoot, but your logic works for me. Thank you.

Hi Chris, a fantastic video about lens choice! And I think that also prime lenses are often missunderstood. I often hear arguments like "A prime lens is much sharper than a zoom lens". That's true, but the only way to compensate for the missing zoom option were to crop in and then you loose all the better sharpness and you do even harder to frame up the composition :) Your choice of 3 zoom lenses is what most landscape photographers do and I have to say, that's good! Nice greetings, Christian

Thank you for this video....I'm still struggling with lens choice. My preference is one camera, one lens (full frame w/24mm f1.4 GM) and zoom with your feet wherever possible (adjust or crop in light room).....having said that, I recognize there will be situations where a second lens will be necessary. I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on this approach. Thank you.

Well you dragged me in with the title because I have been looking at the 24 to 105 canon. Mainly because its a giid all rounder and I have a 14mm wide angle prime and the canon 100 to 400. But you've not really answered the question in the title. You've made a case for all of them 😕. However it'll come down to distortion at the extremes and sharpness of the lens. I'll be squeezing whatever it is onto an apsc so the 24 to 70 needs some research. Cause the 24 to 105 is very sharp. Edit: never mind it will be the 24 to 105. The 24 to 70 doesn't have image stabilisation and is discontinued. Phew. Saved myself utube time.

It doesn't really matter what system you use but more what you like to photograph. If you like to concentrate on landscapes, a wide angle lens is a good choice. When you want to photograph all kinds of things a mid-range lens is great. And if it is wildlife a long lens can make sense 🤗
