A Sideways Look was one of my favourite programmes back in the 80s. My brother and I would tune in for the comedy late at night on a Saturday, and A Sideways Look would be on at 10.45. I grew to enjoy these very personal observations of some very esoteric subjects, and kind of missed them when they stopped. I did find a bunch of them on Usenet about 15 years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed them, so much so that I ended up finding Anthony Smith's website, where he had posted his CV, neatly typed out and scanned. I sent him an email saying how much I enjoyed his programmes, and he kindly replied and thanked me for the kind words. That meant the world to me. It is sad that this format - the 15 minute talk - has all but disappeared from radio.

I came across the same website. There are 8 episodes there, possibly the ones that had been on Usenet. It's the kind of thing that 4 Extra could repeat to fill those 15 minute slots in the morning. You're right, this kind of radio is pretty much non-existent.

So very wary of war and death straight up exhausted by it...
