A-Sides Interview: Ian Astbury of The Cult Discusses New Album, Paris Attacks, Etc. (2-25-2016)
Ian Astbury is an English rock musician and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist for the rock band The Cult. THE CULT announces “Alive in the Hidden City” U.S. tour dates. The live shows will kick off February 5th at the Tower Theater in Los Angeles, CA to coincide with the release of their newest CD “HIDDEN CITY” in stores February 5th. Limited seating at the Tower Theater, Los Angeles, the Gramercy Theater and Music Hall of Williamsburg, New York! More dates to be announced soon! It is The Cult’s first album in three years and their 10th studio album. “Hidden City” -‐ a brutal and beautiful masterpiece -‐ is the third and final part of their critically acclaimed trilogy that began with 2007’s “Born Into This” and was followed by 2012’s “Choice of Weapon.” “Hidden City” is currently available for pre purchase on all music sites.
Jon Chattman's music series features celebrities and artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. No bells, no whistles- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, Jon strives for a refreshing change.

@@krasteff I HAVE listened to The Cult and Ian! Still do listen to their albums (in fact I have all of their albums...missing Ian's solo album though). I agree with all of what Angel said about him. He IS all those!

Intelligent, inciteful and thought provoking. One of the best lyricists around, powered by an amazing voice. Add to that his physical beauty and great moves and there's the perfect rock frontman!

Along with Jim Morrison! I love that he fronted the remaining Doors for 3 years! That was an amazing opportunity for Ian! Both Jim and Ian have got that certain aura of greatness and quality about them! There were will never be another Jim Morrison or Ian Astbury! They are unique 😎😎
you can always count on this man for an in depth thought provoking interview.....other rock stars had the image of "depth" Ian is the real deal.....

Ian is seriously intelligent and cultured. He is a deep and intense guy. His lyrics on the 'Ceremony' album are among his best. I love his Woodstock vibe. Their 1994 album is very different and highly influenced by U2 from that time. The songs and that album kick ass!

@@goesjem I love Ceremony! I agree with you about his lyrics on this brilliant album. The River and Wild Hearted Son are my favourite tracks as well as the pared back 'Indian'. Less is more sometimes. Cello and guitar creating a sombre mood. So moving ❤

'read'. funny, i'm 56...a drummer, and 'lived thru' the 60's...70's...80'...90's....into now. surely recall hearing this band on the radio 'all those wonderful years ago... having "never...heard this man speak a word. Naaaah! He couldn't stand the pressure! Ian is a very spiritual, down to earth man! Anyway, the powers that be would do their best to block any policies he drew up to help the Native American peoples...like the repugs did with Obama.
1980's as a kid! I always was was like..dear God! The Cult is 10 x's better than GnR?? but the music business thought different...and as the years go it was true!
