A Side of Portugal I Never Knew Existed!
A Side of Portugal I Never Knew Existed is a video where I explore the Algarve region of Portugal, Europe. I traveled across Lagos in Portugal to find its relationship with and history with Lagos in Nigeria. I also explored Portuguese food, lifestyle, and culture, as well as some of the famous beaches like the Ponta da Piedade and the Marina de Lagos. Do Like watch and enjoy.

Clever. Loved it!
I was equally surprised to discover LAGOS, Portugal on our motorcycle tour through Portugal. It was obvious to me the connection with our own Lagos in Nigeria. But that ends only with the name and the location (sharing the Atlantic Ocean). We enjoyed it so much we’re considering moving there… Thanks for this amazing video. It’s given us even more of a desire to return!

Do Nigerian students study history. The Portuguese did trade a lot in Africa.
@ifeifesi
Жыл бұрын
Exactly! The Portuguese were one of the first Europeans to trade around coastal west Africa in the 15th century and Lagos, Nigeria was established as a trading post. After that the British which was a stronger naval power than Portugal took it over and the trade in slaves began. Unfortunately as Nigerians are not taught history they are ignorant of this basic history.

Thanks for this Taiwo. My kids and I were in Portugal this time last year, but only ventured to Lisbon, some cites & a beach nearby. We were only there for 2 days so we didn’t get to do much. I will most definitely try Lagos on next visit bc of it history, beauty and I was born in “Lagos” Nigeria. I’ve not been home in a long while and curious if the European architecture is still present in Lagos and if similar to those in Portugal? Anyway, your videos are top notch and of the highest quality. Keep up the good work & can’t wait for u to reach 1 mil subscribers, you deserve it & more.

His/her question are understandable actually if they left Nigeria at a tender age, so they might not have had the experience. Using myself as an example, I was surprised how densely clustered Lagos had become when I went back for the first time in 2005 after spending 10 years abroad. Places like Magodo, Tollgate/Berger were farmland back then. Maroko/Lekki were still empty after the demolition. It was also very shocking that most places had become gated. You might argue they could have checked videos of Lagos Nigeria on KZread, but are there really any such video showcasing colonial architecture in Lagos? Nada! @the person asking the question, the only semblance between the two places are just the name and the water body from which their "Portuguese" name is derived. The Portuguese did not establish themselves long enough to influence the architecture. Most buildings that may appear to be Portuguese were actually influenced by Brazilian architecture. The buildings were built by Brazilian returnees. Like Tayo said, there are here and there some colonial architecture,s but not much really. Even if you had lived in Lagos Nigeria 100 years ago, you would not have found Lagos Nigeria resembling any European city.
Wow almost 38k a night, I’m moving to Portugal lagos 😅
