A Shopping Day in Turkey | Çaykur Tea Store, Pet Stroll, Christmas Decor at Ikea | Oh So Pom

Come with me on a shopping day in Turkey. There are errands to run and I’ll take you along to the Çaykur brand tea store, pick out a new dog stroller for my Frenchie at the pet shop, and check out the Christmas decorations at Ikea while we pick up some items for the new place. If you’d like to see more from my perspective as an American living in Turkey, please consider subscribing to my KZread channel. Until next time, thanks!

Thank you for the nice comments. Fig is now living the life she was made for and her peasants (parents 😆) can push her around wherever she wants to go! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

It is not about political correctness. Even in 1970s (in my childhood) it was still so in Turkey. It is “yeni yil” decorations to us, because we Turks decorate the house with that “tree” and put ornaments on it for New Year’s Eve. Typically also a Turkey or a big roast is cooked and bingo is played too. We don’t look at a “Christmas” tree and think of Christmas. We think of New Year. That is traditionally our association with it. That is OUR tradition since the beginning of our country. It may technically be a Christmas tree but to us it is a New Year tree but not out of political correctness but because the purpose of us decorating our homes and streets is to celebrate the new year. Same goes for some other secular and predominantly Muslim counties such as Kazakhstan. They also decorate the streets and their homes in the same manner but they don’t celebrate Christmas. It s all intended for New Year’s….. Also, are you originally from Canada? I think I caught an accent on “out”. 🙃

I can’t edit for some reason , so I am writing an additional comment. Basically we must have loved the festiveness of Christmas and stole your celebrations (🤪) and adapted it to our New Year celebrations but this gradually happened many many decades ago, so it is not a new thing.
