Philbin ran his team like an executive looking at a spreadsheet. No passion just 1's and 0's. Belichick is similar but he KNOWS football and how to relate to his players. Belichick gets the most out of players by letting them do what they're best at. Putting them in a position to succeed, not just fill a spot of need.

  • @joshuacarrig9370

You're right, I'm not a Pats fan but Belichick is fierey in practice and when talking about football to football type guys (see the 100 Greatest show he hosted with Eisen). He runs a tight ship but he chews you out and makes you want his praise, as per ex players lie Ty Law, Moss, Wilfork and Blount. He's calm because he knows every inch of every play, Philbin might be smart...but what player cares about performing for this lack of enthusiasm.

Chad did this to himself. But it wouldn't have worked out anyway, even if the domestic violence incident never happened. Belichick at least respected Johnson's talent. Philbin disliked him personally and treated him like a problem that someone else forced on him. I'm still wondering what the Dolphins saw in Philbin when they hired him. Being stoic and even keeled are good qualities. But he has the passion of a wet fish. A head coach needs to be able to motivate their players.
