A Sharp Decline: Jurassic Park World

The Jurassic World movies have taken the Jurassic Park franchise to even greater financial heights...but at what cost??

Plus, it would've done serious damage to the ship, which it didn't. The baby couldn't have caused damage because it's leg was broken. Plus, people could've easily tranquilized it like what Roland did. Also, the ship was moving and moving fast and crashed into the docks. It would not sleep through that.

Surplus killing happens in nature rather regularly so “killing for sport” doesn’t even make the Indominus all that special and the spoken dialogue therefore only exists for the sake of shallow spectacle.

  • @william3100

    @william3100

    Ай бұрын

@@Dinoslayit does make it special because animals only do that for survival reasons. Indominus Rex did it purely for the feel and seeing how powerful it is. Even dangerous animals know what they instinctively are. The Indominus didn't know what it was and had enough intelligence to like killing things. It was a literal sadistic monster.

  • @wannabKsi

@wannabKsi True, but remember the line that Owen said, "she is seeing all of this for the first time. SHE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHO SHE IS. She will kill anything that moves. " Her not knowing who she is is pretty interesting because she was a mismatch of a bunch of different animals rolled into one. Animals have an instinctive identity because they have had millions of years to evolve into what they are currently. They evolved physical and psychological traits to match what they needed to become. The indominus was nothing like that. It was just created out of the blue with many different things and behaviors thrown in. It makes sense that her behaviors and ways of thinking and understanding would be very messed and all over the place.

Lost World was a hack job of the novel. My guess is the novel wasn't exciting enough for as true of an adaptation as Jurassic Park was considering technology constraints it dealt with. I liked 3, it used some of the material from the books that were left out of the other two movies. My memories are also favorable as I watched Land Before Time, Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park 3 on a loop when babysat my 4 year old niece. Fun times watching monster movies with the munchkin. I actually like The Lost World a lot despite its flaws. As a kid I thought it was too dark, but as an adult, I enjoy seeing the film through Ian's eyes and the complete chaos that ensues. Spielberg's classic style is all over that film, and there's so many memorable scenes that if they had stuck closer to the book, it might've even eclipsed the original in quality.

The change in the sequels to portraying the dinosaurs as monsters rather than animals is the biggest transgression of the sequels as it fundamentally changed the audience's point of view. In JP1 & 2 you're not privy to anything the characters aren't; you're going through the experience WITH them. That's a deliberate, important creative decision by Spielberg. From JP3 onwards you're on the side of the "puppeteers", to use a timely comparison. You're now (as a viewer) more omniscient, instead of sympathetic. It’s criminal film making.

Furthermore, the violence in the book feels more like it’s trying to be dark, compared to the movie which felt more story driven and not just violence for violence.

While I was suffering through the second part of Jurassic World, my neck was already getting weary from shaking my head, and my forehead was red and swollen from a *lot* of face palming. But I managed to watch until the last scenes. It was hard, but I managed to "swallow" all that nonsense. And then, within those last scenes, within the last few *minutes* they made it. They *broke* me. That whole: "Oh, poisonous gas is killing the dinosaurs, let's open their *cage* doors, to let *them* out, and *not* open the huge gate first, to let the *gas* escape", to: "They are like me, they should be free", without any of the two adults even *trying* to argue with the kid, that this might actually be a bad idea, to mindlessly opening said huge gate, and release a bunch of huge, primeval beasts into a populated area, to: "Oops - now they're gone. I guess, the world is going to be different from now on..", with no further actions being taken by the protagonists, to the final *audacity* of the makers: to try to sell this as kind of an "happy end"!?! That did it for me. I was flabberghasted. I had a nonsense overload and just couldn't take it no more. I watched this movie on free tv, but I still have the feeling I want my money back! (To cite a great YT film critic). Never watched the third film, and never will.

@@outsideintel Thank you, ❤️ and: Keep on yelling! Such stupid flicks really *deserve* to be yelled at!! There is something that I call a "Ja, weil auch" moment, which is something me a and an ex-boyfriend of mine used to have. We watched a movie together, a huge plot-hole or logical mistake appears, and one of us just had to say: "Ja, weil auch!", and we both knew what the other one meant. (Like, *of course* a human can outrun a pyroclastic flow!, and other things that "actually make sense, if you don't think about it!") Nowadays, I don't have the bf anymore, but I've still got the same thing with my sister. The sad thing about this is, there's nothing special about it, like having a very good mental or emotional connection to the person I have such moments with. As long as anyone has more than two brain cells to rub together, they will automatically stumble over these mistakes, and, after too many of them, start to speak about them. (Let's face it: There is a biological limit to eye-rolling. After a while, it just *hurts* 😉.) And movies like Fallen Kingdom are just too packed with such moments, until the very end, and that's why what was meant to entertain, finally becomes just annoying. 🙄

Edit: Among the last, but not the least: Hello David, I'm pleased to meet you! I am Ute. 👋🏻 And there are two more things I need to add, that are part of my rant, but do not concern the Fallen Kingdom. To be precise, there are a lot more things to add, but I already wrote too much in my comments. Let's therefore take the first two things that came to my mind. 1.: Jurassic World. Did they really have to feed a great white shark to the Mosasaurus? They are a rare, very important species, and have to become very old to be this big. And they don't even remotely have any sufficient nutritional value to sustain the body of the Mosasaurus. So, what's the purpose of this "show" feeding? Sensationalism. This movie was released in 2015, ffs, they are not going to tell me that they never heard how important it is to preserve sharks? 🤦🏻‍♀️ (Or are we going to blame this on the audience, too?) 2. The Tomorrow War. The "Why?" and "Of course" moments chased each other in this flick. But one of my most favorite was the one when our main protagonist kicked the mother alien in the face, and it retreated. *Of course* these indestructible beasts do have the alien equivalent of the "glass chin" some boxers have, just that it located in their snouts! 🙄

I agree with everything said in the video. One thing I'd expand upon is that the original movie was a cinematic acheivement that in my opinion was unmatched (at least within sci fi) until Dune 2. The realization of the dinosaurs was both a pinnacle of practical effects and our INTRODUCTION to the possibilities of CGI. On top of that, paleontology and dinosaurs were a topic of great imagination with a lot of creative effort going into the topic even before Jurassic Park came out. It was both a brand new visual paradigm and it met a cultural moment that I think declined through the 90s. The much better path for the studio to capitalize on Jurassic Park would actually have been to have Spielberg bring Dinotopia to life the way he did Jurassic Park.

The most amazing thing about the original is they went into production with no idea how they were going to make the dinosaurs look real. I had assumed Spielberg was willing to try it because of new CGI tech he was confident could make it look realistic.

Whenever I see scenes of JP1 I'm like "Man this movie is SO GOOD." It has pacing you will NEVER see these days since everything has to be 3 hours. However, I grew up with JP2 and fed on all the marketing (games, two comics, behind the scenes material, toys etc.) and have higher nostalgia for that one. Also I loved the tiger striped Raptors in JP2.

SERIOUSLY THIS FRANCHISE JUST NEEDS TO DIE AND HAVE A REAL ACTUAL REINVENTION NOT JUST A REMAKE! We just need a new and fresh adaptation of it that is true to the novel and rated R. I remember reading the book years ago and it was very violent and scary. From the very beginning this franchise has been inhibited by its PG-13 family friendly tone even though they did have some pretty dark moments scattered throughout the films I feel like it could be so much better especially now since r-rated movies are making more money ever since Deadpool

I will never tolerate hate toward The Lost World. In my mind that movie is up there with Aliens and Terminator 2 as a perfect movie sequel. Jurassic Park 3 is more a product of studio interference than a lust for money, much like Alien 3. I agree though. What I want is new ideas. There are a million stories to tell when you have living dinosaurs, but they keep telling the same one. I was honestly surprised that they were going for another functioning park when I saw the trailer for JW. Hybrids aren't new enough of a concept to warrant three more movies. Give us something truly new.

You could write a good Jurassic Park sequel by lifting heavily from the beginning and end of the original Jurassic Park book. In the end, they strongly believe that Raptors and perhaps other dinosaurs have already escaped to the mainland. There are reports of dinosaurs roaming about and ravaging crops rich in lysine. The book starts with dinosaur attacks on babies in Costa Rica, I think compies but you could make them raptors as well. I say go full circle and start any sequel there. Make that the opening scene, a baby is snatched from its crib in the middle of the night somewhere in Central America. Next scene: a couple on holiday take their daughter to the beach, she is attacked by a small dino but they rescue her and bring her back to a nearby hospital. The couple don't see the dino, but the kid draws it. The body of the baby dino is recovered and sent to the states for analysis where it is examined by the same woman from the books who recognises the dinosaur from the kid's picture. Bla bla bla, people visit Costa Rica to investigate. And say this all takes place in a universe without the Jurassic Park movies, so only a select few people even know of Jurassic Park, what happened there is a closely guarded secret, but there have been rumours. Could go anywhere from here. Read the book. It's good.

Whats great about Jurassic World 1 is, that (most likely unintentionally) it follows the predictions of Henry Wu in the original novel. There, Wu had inner thoughts about the creation of dinosaurs as an attraction, regarding that they have to look like the customers know and expect for marketing purposes. Then he predicted that customers would eventually lose interest, so they would make the dinosaurs more dangerous, more scary looking, and maybe create something new. This happened in World.
