Makai is called Yumberry,Bayberry in English and Sophie Berry in Shillong which is abundantly found in Meghalaya & Assam( Thuruk) only as its native . It's found in China and Arunachal Pradesh as well and is widely used for medical purposes and wine making. Thanks for showing Kharthong especially Thuruk village which I am really fond of. Amazing Fact Thuruk means a Secret place or abode.

Exactly. I thought only Khasi-Pnar and Biate cultivate it as only the 2 tribes have a name for it. Thuruk and the entire Kharthong region(Western Dima Hasao) is the easternmost fringe of Shillong Plateau. The place and vegetation itself is more akin to Khasi Jaintia Hills

Biate is totally a different tribes but they are one of the oldest Kukis and they fall under chin kuki mizo community
