They passed on the Best DT in the draft last year, this was a no brainer. Just like passing on Creed Humphrey a couple of years ago when you obviously needed a center. And they still need to fix the interior OL.

It was a good solid pick

He would’ve been a top 10 pick last year

Our D-line is going to be a underestimated unit

I just like that we are FINALLY building in the trenches in the last few drafts. This guy is not a run liability and he has some of the best, if not the best, pass rush from that position in the last 10 years (win rates). He's got the character and work ethic we are looking for, very solid pick. I am glad we didn't take the trade offer that was given in the very next pick, that was bad and rumors are we were interested in trading up for Penix. So in the end, John did his job and didn't reach, kept the focus and philosophy. I am also excited, if the rumors are true, that we were willing to explore going up in the draft for a QB and in the end we didn't over extend for that like other teams did/do. Hopefully Penix has a good career in ATL, I think he will, and we got a stud in one of our two weakest position groups. A+ from me.

Love this pick! Especially given that we have a protect the ball quarterback instead of a more dynamic player. There are going to be a lot of close games ahead.

In the post pick interview they said they had him rated as THE top defender of the draft so they are sticking to the value based strategy which I love. I think it’s gonna be great to pair him with veterans like Leonard Williams and Draymond Jones. Football is still a pretty basic game and won in the trenches and when your second to last at stopping the run, you’re always going to be an average team at best. I know they’re gonna address the offensive line on their next pick, but I really like beefing up the middle. My only questionwould’ve been how high did they value Dallas Turner because in most mock drafts he was not available.

I like the pick but let's take it back in history when a new head coach in Seattle took a defensive player from Texas in the teens 🤔🤔🤔 same success hopefully

Murphy was also a perfect fit for MacDonald... he plays all over the line and he played plenty of 0 tech/NT at Texas... exactly what MacDonald likes to do with his defensive players (move them around at all levels).

It's always hard to compare to Hall of Famers, but Sapp was selected in a similar range, albeit he had some character questions that caused him to fall a little. There is true upside here. It might not be Hall of Fame level, but very good.

Macdonald isn’t messing around he wants to build up that defense. Gotta get back to stopping the run and sacking the quarterback.
