    So here's my interpretation: This is not the initial timeline. The team successfully invents time travel and goes on to be a successful entity; but, naturally, there were repercussions. Something happened that caused time travel to be deemed a threat - travelers are pursued with lethal force, and perhaps 'accomplices' are detained. That is, all except for the inventor of time travel, who was spared by that hunter and given a trinket that allows him to experience the initial timeline, and sees the first vessel on display (no pilot, she died in the explosion). This is the beginning of his journey, to find and perhaps liberate his friends at first, but during his journey he discovers just how severely the invention of time travel has back-fired. Enough to make his future-self hunt down and destroy his love every time she makes the jump.

    This is phenomenal work. The quality of the natural light in the effects is spot on. I've watched this several times and EVERYTIME what jumps out at me, is the wheels on the truck model from the over head shot, do not match the truck when it pulls up. The over head shot shows chrome and when you see it stop in a later shot, they aren't chrome. Then when I froze the film at 0:26 to be sure before posting this, I realised that wasn't the only thing different. Boils down to a completely different model lol. THAT said.... the quality of this short film is fabulous and i give it a massive thumbs up. :0)

    I interpreted the end this way (spoilers): The alien that followed Rachel back into the present had mercy with the last guy of the friends, so he spared his life. The stone gives the last guy the ability to temporarily travel into the future in which their time-travel device is being presented in that glass box as the first ever time-travel machine built by the humans in the past (the present), kinda like an exhibition/museum.

    DistracticusPrime But I couldn't tell if they were time jumping or dimension jumping. If they were jumping time then he could have landed at a point BEFORE she got blown up. If they were dimension jumping then it could have been another ship entirely from a parallel universe. Some people were thinking that the armored figure was actually Rachel from the future, and that was why she shot down the first ship and didn't kill him because someone else took it. But.... it wasn't clear....

    +MofaGames "Traveler" is a teaser short for an epic sci-fi feature set in the near future. When a group of friends discover a secret code on the dark-web, they build a jet-powered craft to attempt jumping to the far side of our galaxy. But when they succeed, they unwittingly open up earth to the ‘aware’ - civilizations who are advanced enough to ‘jump’ through space. Earth sits at a crucial way-point in the universe and has been targeted for illegal colonization. Only our adventurers can stop this - if they prove to the galactic council how nefarious the security chief's plans are. Such a quest will take them to the far edges of the galaxies and the far-flung worlds there.

    I think once he grabbed the crystal, he was sent to the future. The black ship appeared and shot and killed racheal and took the others so that they couldnt spread the knowledge of how to time travel. The way the white ship was in glass and at the same location reminds me of a Monument, like one of the wright brothers first flight. You could see in the background that different moons/planets where in the sky, futuristic architecture was there, so it was probably a few hundred or thousands of years later. The black figure looked almost like a shoulder in a way. In the future, the military probably figured out time travel, then went back to prevent the world from having the ability. Definitely thought provoking. Wish there was more however being open ended give us the audience the ability to explore different scenarios, causes, and make our own ending.

    If the jet-powered craft was destroyed then how could it be in the box that the guy sees? Is it a hologram? A nice twist would have been if the guy picked up the 'rock' traveled to the spot where the craft was in the box, stole it and then took it back to where it had originated just as he was being pursued by the black ship only to be destroyed when he got 'back.' Then, subsequently, it is revealed that the pilot of the black craft was the girl that took the jet-powered craft in the first place. That would have given the short film a much deserved WOW! factor ending that made sense even as it raised questions about how the girl became the pilot of the black craft in the first place and wanted to kill her colleagues. It becomes a circular story with an imaginative twist ending that actually satisfies.

    +metaspherz consider the possibility that the temporal pathway (or wormhole if you prefer) taken by the craft was still there slightly out of phase with that particular time and location....the returning craft may not have actually been the one that left but one from a reality that closely resembles our own on a quantum frequency or vibration...the first intrusion into the future altered the fabric of space time for a moment and the back wash left in its wake is simply trying to repair the damage...the figure might be a guardian or as has been stated in previous comments one of the team members intent on preventing an as yet seen problem from becoming exponentially worse

    I am getting tired of short films where there is no story,lots of CGI and the audience left scratching their heads as to WTF. They are proof of concept and if someone somewhere is willing to fund them then they will sit down and write a story that joins all the dots. Otherwise its just another piece for their portfolio. This frolic with Star Wars,Tomorrow Land and Signs is destined for that hard drive you keep to show the kids one day."Look what Daddy used to do."

    I dont get it, why no of these short films dont have good story, or interesting ending? CG is sometimes good and in some films really bad, but in general these dont have acting or story in priority, ending always feels cut off. Initium was one of few with interesting ending or good idea

    +Henrich Winside Achberger If you treat it as intro-scene it's not that bad imo. The scene itself explains everything you need to know. You don't get confused because you don't essential questions answered what happened in the movie/scene.

  • @HenrichAchberger

    why would I treat short film as an intro scene? Its like you buy all the ingredients, but not cook. I know these guys are trying to show of vfx, which they did, but instead they could ask some some student projects that are focused on story and acting/camera if they can help with vfx them.

  • @neil7741

    +Henrich Winside Achberger The reason is so the finishing scenes are left up to your imagination....pretty easy to figure it out. Then you are to figure out what, why and when from that. Pretty powerful thing imagination...try it some time you might surprise yourself. Short Film Makers have the viewer make up their minds, or they show a ending so the viewer is happy, but again there's never a happy medium, so take the good with the bad and move on :)

  • @metaspherz

    @metaspherz

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Neil Honda Your logic is skewed. It's trying to make this claptrap into something worthwhile by asserting that the imagination could save it. Not possible. This short film is like a meal that looks good but tastes terrible. No amount of imagination can make it palatable. A good film must have a beginning, middle and end. This barely has a beginning and a middle but it has no end. All we have is an homage to other films (Back to the Future, Tomorrow Land, Star Wars, etc.), with too many unanswered questions. The reason films, even short film projects, have endings is to provide closure. Endings don't always have to be happy or tie up all loose ends, but they most certainly must make sense. This film does none of that. It's like a student project that ran out of funding, time or ideas. Films that leave the ending up to the viewer or too many unanswered questions seem incomplete and are just plain lazy. Imagination has nothing to do with it especially if the film maker doesn't enough of his own or care to make it satisfying to his audience. As it is, this is a 'teaser' but not a very good one.
