A Safari in Bhadra Tiger Reserve | River tern jungle lodges

This is a vlog about my visit to River tern Jungle lodges, near lakavalli and also a safari into Bhadra tiger reserve. River Tern Lodge gets its name from the nearby island that attracts hundreds of river terns during the breeding season. It is located on a hillock on the edge of the Bhadra reservoir, near Lakkavali: a stone’s throw away from the northern boundary of the Bhadra Tiger Reserve, in the Chikmaglur district.

I have read KP Tejaswi's book based on Kenneth Anderson's book . One of them covers the Lakkavalli Incident with Tiger. It gave me goosebumps . I did visit the Bhadra lodge once , it was great food and people. The Safari on boat was nice but it got misty real quick like in minutes and we had to abandon it. The Land safari was a bit of bittersweet though. The Jeep which left alongside us got to see the Tiger (lean and thin one it was) but we ended seeing a group of hornbills playing in mud eating nuts. We surprised them but it was a nice experience. Still after years , haven't seen a Tiger in wild , LOL

Off late it's becoming common seeing a tiger during safari, especially in kabini and Bandipur....

Wonderful sighting of sloth bear and jungle fowl and it quite rare to see their behaviour. The leopard sighting at the end was the icing on the cake. Nice narrative too.. good vlog 👍

Wow!! What a sighting!! Both sloth bear and leopard are harder to spot, than a tiger. You were very lucky!! Never knew Bhadra is so rich. Waiting for the boat safari episode. ❤

For people going for Direct safari, there is bus safari available, but not in jungle lodges, but need to go to lakkavalli forest department office and safari starts from there, also I heard the safari duration is short, maybe 1 or 1:30 hrs compared to 2:30hrs in jlr jeep.

If you find time, add a google map reference to places Kenneth refers, and their current names used by locals. Like him, I too was born during pre-partition times, know some Tamil and Hindustani, almost zero Kannada, spent some risky days in Bengaluru, a concrete jungle, unsure when I might be hit by a vehicle while crossing the roads in Malleswaram. I'm now content to enjoy all the wildlife experience virtually, from the safety of over 10 Myriameters. A big thanks to Shreyas and other vloggers for sharing their experiences. A friend recently took over 5 Hours to leave the city traffic of Bengaluru, so it must be taking a substantial amount of time before the first frame and after the last frame, for each video!

Sure sir, will try adding Google maps location. Also, rightly said, there is quite a lot of effort that goes into planning, travelling, recording and editing. And when people watch and like the video, it sort of justifies the effort.🙂
