A Rifle of Culture and Class | Dutch Schuetzen Percussion Muzzleloading Rifle

Today we're looking at an original Dutch Schuetzen Muzzleloading Target Rifle.
A Schützenverein (German for "marksmen's club") is a local voluntary association found in German-speaking countries revolving around shooting as a sport, often target shooting to Olympic rules or with historic weapons. Although originating as a town militia, a Schützenverein has no military aspects and in many cases often has a more social than sporting purpose.
Schuetzenvereins were founded in the United States by German-Americans and acted as a social club for their communities. Each club had a range for target shooting and often also a bar.[2] Larger clubs could have extensive facilities such as an inn, dance hall, music pavilion, zoo, bowling alley, roller coaster, refreshment stands, athletic field, picnic grounds, and other amusements. It was common for tens of thousands of people to attend a major event.
Schuetzen Park in North Bergen, New Jersey and Schuetzen Park in Davenport, Iowa recall the tradition. The former Deutsch-Amerikanische Schützen Gesellschaft building stands at 12 St. Mark's Place in New York City's East Village, and has been a designated landmark since 2001.

Love your appreciation of Schuetzen and Germanic rifles/target shooting. My family always made a point to remind me of my German heritage, so once I got into muzzleloading I felt like I was picking up a pastime that was very "genetically familiar".

Lovely precision offhand target piece. Thank you. Peep sights and globe can be found on crossbows way before guns were invented.

Hi, I am from Germany and some of my friends from the shooting range have such a rifle. We shoot on about 55 yards of hand and a realy good shooter can get 140 out of 150 and the bulls eye is ten actualy. The current german champion had 149 last year. I am not even close with 130 on a good day 🤣

Ethan, That barrel looks like it has 'flat rifling' instead of the lands and grooves. It does have a twist but bullets are made just for that barrel for a very tight fit. I saw a rifle with that type on CapandBall channel. It was insanely accurate.
