A ride on Perth's Airport Line; Perth - High Wycombe on a B Series EMU

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video we take a ride on Perth's new Airport Line from Perth Station to the terminus of the line at High Wycombe on a Transperth B Series EMU. The new Airport Line opened on the 9th October 2022 and is Perth's first new railway line since the Mandurah Line opened in 2007. It is the first major rail extension completed under Perth's ambitious Metronet scheme to drastically expand the Perth railway network. Built at a cost of $1.86 billion the 8.5km line branches off the Midland Line at Bayswater station and largely consists of underground twin bored tunnels serving three new stations at Redcliffe, Airport Central, and High Wycombe.
In normal operation Airport Line services operate between High Wycombe and Claremont via Perth station, with trains operating every 12 minutes during peak hours, every 15 minutes during the day, and every 30 minutes during the evening. Within the twin bored tunnels trains reach their top speed of 130km/h, with a journey time of 22 minutes from Perth to High Wycombe.

My partner & I used to to get and from the airport on our Melbourne trip was great coming back after 8PM and having a train every 15 minutes was quite well utilised too, the speed truly is unique for an Australian underground system definitely an impressive engineering not just for WA but the whole country glad our trains aren’t driverless

I live in High Wycombe - that is the original High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England. I have visited Perth many times now and it is my favourite city, indeed WA is Australia's best kept secret! Oh how I wish we had a joined up Public transport infrastructure like Perth's - putting the rail lines up the centre of the freeways is just genius compare to the crap we are made to put up with here.

I have friends in the uk, and Public Transport there kinda makes me cringe, although there’s a lot more to look at, there’s no fluency! I believe it’s all privatised

@@TysxnoGrester Manchester has a population of a bit more than 2 Million so similar to Perths. But our TrainSystem doesn't compare. When I compare the trains of Melbourne, Perth, Sydney to the likes of Birmingham and Manchester I just ask myself. Where did we go wrong

Both my partner and I noticed and said the same at the same time. New stations. Disabled, elderly and child unfriendly with very very very few seats at platform level. So they are expecting people to stand. Even after carrying heavy luggage. Also great for people carrying luggage. Can see that some 35 year old designer thought this right through.

It’s Airport protocol because it’s a security risk something could be hidden under a seat or in a bin

When I was last in London I was able to buy coffee at the station but once finished there were no rubbish bins ! Asked a staff member what to do, he said I should just put the coffee cup in a ledge somewhere and it will be picked up !! All for security reasons apparently.

Surprised Perth still uses 3-car sets. Isn't Perth's population similar to Brisbane's? Don't think I've seen a 3-car set in Brisbane for years now.

Yes it is 3car and that is due to the fact that the older stations on the heritage lines (Midland and Fremantle) cannot fit 6car as they only accommodate 4car (A-Series) max. Only the new Airport Line stations, East Perth, Perth and Claremont station can accommodate 6car but in the future all stations on the line will eventually fit 6car especially Bayswater seen in the video that is currently getting a major upgrade, but Mandurah and the Joondalup line even the stadium event services you will see majority of the services are 6car.
