A RGB Ultra-Budget Pro Controller | PowerA Spectra Honest Review (2021)

PowerA Spectra (Official website includes US, UK, and CA retailers): www.powera.com/product/powera...
I was never all that interested in the Spectra until I had it and to be honest, I sincerely apologize for not reviewing it earlier! This controller blew me away with its performance, especially for its $40 price point. Yes, I'm aware that the Spectra now has an XSX variant, but I purchased my Spectra before its release unfortunately :( either way, they're both ridiculously cheap controllers that don't cheap out when it comes to performance! I hope you guys enjoyed this honest review of the Spectra and if you did, please be sure to drop this video a like, and sub if you're new. I'll see you guys in the next one!

Okay so a couple of things. Firstly, Game Binds Fortnite - Left button "Left D-Pad" (Edit) Right Button "A" (Jump) Modern Warfare - Left Button "B" (Slide) Right Button "A" (Jump) Secondly, I sincerely hope yall enjoy this video lol. I worked hard to get it out in a timely manner, and UMG can't leave me alone on account of my new outro music, so I'm not going to be profiting off of this video unfortunately. That won't be stopping the Review of the Eswap Pro, or the upcoming 6 month update on the Wolverine TE though! Thirdly, I'm aware PowerA released a next-gen version of this controller. It came out after I purchased the og Spectra, and they're essentially identical wither way. But, I might still buy, and Review the new one sometime. Might! Lol

Hey i have been looking for just random controllers and have found this one called the BioNek vulcan pro or something. I haven't really put much effort into researching but thought I would let my favorite reviewer know and see what he things! Also I think it's only like 50, and has the same features and the fusion pro. Could it be a contender?

It's super easy to take apart, check it out. Internals it is ALPS, but they're the full metal ones from way back on PS2 controller. This is why the tension feels so much better.

I have a couple of these controllers. I like them. My favorite 'feature' is the cable, which locks in. Loose connections at this point have always been a bane of my existance on previous cabled controllers that I have owned.

You ever try the steam controller? It's a very steep learning curve, but you get amazing mouse like aiming and customization that is very unique compared to other controllers.
Yo man, love your videos, I've had a Spectra for a little over 12 months now. And it's served me VERY well, I agree with you on one reliability problem though, that's with my right stick, it squeaks when moving it around. No real issues with it though, I've also got the fusion and as much as I love the feel of it, the paddles suck. So I alternate between them. Keep up the good work man, peace out

yes...the outro is dope. Also, PowerA just makes good controllers for the low. I have Switch controllers and the Fusion pro. I'm like you, what's not to like at that price range. Keep up the great reviews.
I literally want to go buy this product because of you, hands down best review.
*Update * if your controller lights seem a bit dim, while you are in the the mode to adjust the lights you can press up on the D-Pad to increase brightness or down to Decrease doing this can make some of the other colors spill into the other areas. Have fun
Been using my powera fusion pro v1 for about 3 years now with heavy use. I have my dead zone at 0 on left stick and 0.03 on right stick so very low stick drift and no issues at all with paddles or other reliability issues
Thank you lmao I was waiting for this
Best budget controller on the market imo, it’s buttons over paddles for me and $40 can’t be beat, feels great
Just got this controller after continuously going through controllers and it looked really nice to me and i hoped it wasnt complete shit. Very funny guy and good video. Love time stamps so it makes things so easy

I really like this controller. Although I must say this is the 3rd one I've had to buy because the first 2 had the same weird problem where the left stick was loose and actually messed with right stick inputs. Even though I had those problems I still bought it because it is so cheap, I like the feel, and the back buttons are in a comfortable position for me. And no batteries

Good review, seems like a solid budget choice.
They do replace controllers with no hassle though. One time they replaced a replacement, but I figured out after I sent the request that it was the cord and not the controller. I got 7 of these things and only bought 3. And exactly 3 still work without issues.
No idea if anyone else has experienced this issue but given this is the second PowerA controller I've gotten of the exact same kind (the one in this video) and it also has fallen victim to the same problem I have to believe it's happened to others out there too. Over time, about 4-5 months maybe 3-4 hundred hours of play time. While there's surprisingly no stick drift I've experienced, as in gradual movements from the analogue sticks even when I'm not touching them. There has been wayyy worse problems. With the right analogue stick, it will randomly and spastically act in-game as if I suddenly went hard on moving it straight upwards, like I'll be running in COD and all of a sudden I'll be looking at the sky and I need to periodically pull the stick down to level out again. Then for the left stick, it will not register input unless some slight pressure is pushed down on the stick. So you almost need to hold it down in a kind of half-clicked in position in order for it to register movement at all. Which is incredibly infuriating for stealth games, where slight input differences is the left analogue stick are pretty vital. Which really sucks for me to say, because I love the price of these, I love how they look, how they feel, they feel perfect for my hands, which is the only reason I crossed my fingers hoped it was a once off issue and bought a second one, only to see the exact same identical problems with the analogue sticks return.
@vCuda
2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen too many comments discussing this, I may have seen one or two, but none that I can remember off the top of my head. I'm not entirely sure what the issue could be, or what causes it. Stick drift is normal, but this is clearly something very different. Something could be inside of the thumbsticks potentiometers, but I don't know how it would happen more than once
I’d watch videos of tech reviews of other stuff. Controllers are great, but this kind of honesty on other types of gear would be awesome if you’d even consider expanding.
I’ve used this whilst my elite was getting fixed…. The difference between the 2 in my opinion isn’t very much, in fact I prefer the powerA due to it being so light, and for £30 it’s a great controller
Dude you’re hilarious 😂 I love watching your videos
I love the videos man keep it up

The firmware screwed up my controller at first, but after a couple more attempts, my controller now feels way more responsive with a much smaller deadzone now
Fun channel and great delivery 🙂
I personally have had the fusion V1 for over a year now with really no problem. It may just be a faulty controller on some people's end as that happens and sadly it will always be like that. But I love it a lot and have had no issue with it. I have even a power a enhanced controller for switch that after a year still works wonderfully. I had the elite series 2 for about 3 months before it broke and I had to get another one. Keep in mind that it was my 4th elite replacement in general and I have only had one fusion V1. For what it is I know people who have and love the spectra but I can say I personally recommend power a a lot. Especially when I can get a bit competitive in fps games and the controller gets used heavily
Thanks for the great info, I just got this controller at target and everything seems to be working fine out of the box. Could you give any tips or maybe even a short video of how to best make use of remapped buttons? This is my first time using a “pro” style and want to get the most out of it
@cesarsalazar8618
2 жыл бұрын
(Since I don't know what games you play meaning I don't know their mechanics or button layouts let's go with Warzone as an example and go from there brain storming what you want from my advice) My advice is to reduce the use of the sticks as much as possible while still maintaining a practical and comfortable button layout. To start off put Auto Tac Sprint on, not Auto Move Forward as that will really mess up your day, this is to reduce if not out right stop the need to press down the left stick. Next part depends on the if you play on default or tackle. If on default put melee (R3) to left button (to stop using the stick), then I highly recommend putting your B button (crouch/prone/slide) to the right one that way you can slide cancel by pressing back right button, then Aim, and last A (This also helps to drop shot while leaving your finger on the sticks)
@cesarsalazar8618
2 жыл бұрын
Now if you play on tactical put the crouch/prone/slide(R3) button to right back button or keep it how it is your choice. But I still think your left back button should be your melee. Hope this helps you out and anyone else who reads this.
Awesome outro!! 😎
Great timing and delivery.
I’ve had 3 and all the time the right bumper goes out. Also the paddles recess into the controller after a while and make them almost impossible to press.

Can you review the PowerA Spectra Infinity?
U should review the SCCF thumbsticks for the elite series 2 controller. Big fan of them because they have a stick that has the length right between the stock series 2 long thumbstick and the regular size one. Its the perfect size for control without compromising speed
The outro is fire af
Not sure if this happens a lot to these controllers but I had 2 before I decided to become a man and get the Razer TE after watching your vids on it but on either stick the inside of it begins rubbing on something causing load annoying scratchy squeaky sounds but this can be easily fixed with a little bit of WD40 on a cotton bud and run around the edges. Then move the stick around till it coats the inside and then it is fixed. Btw keep up the great content 👑💙

Bought this controller a week ago and its about a month delivery at some point but i can wait that long. I just wonder one thing, the underneath side of the controller. does it have rubber grip or is it still soft?
Been having a issue with my fusion pro. My kontrol frerks don't stay on and one trigger is lower than the other. I switched to this controller and I should've done that a while ago. I never used the paddles on the fusion either so the spectra was perfect. The buttons are there if I need.
Are you interested by the Turtle Beach Recon Controller ? Seems nice
Are their headsets worth looking into over other cheap headsets like the Turtle Beach Recon 70's?
Nice outro 👌👏
I came to a realization seeing you drop your elite series 2. The series 2 is the controller I have dropped the most.
PowerA back left trigger started to stick yesterday, took it apart which was easy to do. That particular button was not going up and down. I look after my controllers. Had it for 6 months. I started playing on the ps1 back in the day when I was 5. The last year went back to pc, so I wanted a controller for the Xbox inputs reason for the PowerA. My solution now was to go back to my PS4 controller and order the Sony back attachment. Getting it today so looking forward to it. Also I don't plug my headset into my controller, when I'm gaming on PC I just connect it wirelessly.
Hey bro, love your vids, will you do a Turtle Beach Recon Controller for Xbox when released on August 1st, need an honest review. Thanks
I've had the fusion for three months and there's a gouge in the plastic from constantly sprinting I guess. Somehow there's no drift yet 🤷
Yo vcuda I’m impressed in your performance in the Belgium vs Italy game today, although I’m not sure why ur jersey said Witsel and not vcuda 👍
Been through 2 spectras now, left trigger stop broke so the trigger wouldn't work at all, replaced under warranty. Same thing happened on the new one but snapped in a better place so I was able to glue it back together to keep the trigger working (with no trigger stop). Also the left thumbstick doesn't work if you push it straight up, but if you push up and slightly left or right it works fine 🤷 Way to frustrating to play with so now have an elite series 2, for me wireless is a big plus that's often overlooked.
I can’t get my controller to go to the color cycle mode, the led button on th back just turns it off and on but doesn’t change the colors or take me to cycle mode.
love your vids:)
The gameplay section in this video is a hilarious reminder of why I love single player games 🤣
I just cut a bit of a zip tie off and then glued to the back of the trigger with some superglue when I get really short triggers
Controller tier list in the future?
Had it for 3-4 months now the sticks don't snap back at all. They literally just fall in any direction the conttoller sits at
Hey vCuda this has nothin to do with the controller but I was lookin at your pc case and if you don't mind me asking, what pc case do you have?
Hi! would you recommend the spectra infinity or the original core xbox series s/x controller, based on lifespan and quality (additional buttons on the back are not a game changer for me) im having a hard time picking between them. Thank you in advance!
I already had that controller, it only worked for a year and 14 days ago I threw it away, a good deal for that price, this review is exactly what it is, I had the same problems in the end. RIP Power A Spectra, it worth it for 40 bucks and that's it.

Legit stuff man. For real I bought this things little brother which is the same just no RGB and no trigger stops and I was looking around thinking 'should I get something higher end' but at most now watching your videos I'll just get this one for the trigger stops lol, I would like some extra buttons but honestly for the price that PowerA puts stuff out for and how good it is.... Who cares if I bust it up? Better that than get some overpriced 'pro' controller and break that... Oh yeah and 100% the bottom buttons are basically perfect.
I got one a like 3 months ago, not even the first month and got stick drift on the left stick. Also there are some issues where the controller for some reason mistakes the right analog imput with the left one. I'd say decent customer support, but I still dont get my replacement after ordering it 4 weeks ago, apparently its out of stock.
The problem I had with my controller is that my left stick has begun to control my right stick movement

Nice video! The software update on PC dont work. Can i update my controller in the Xbox app? Windows 10
agreed on buttons, i feel like we do paddles because scuf probably had an easier time making paddles work than it would be putting buttons on the handle
So far I've only used it for headphone out to AUX on my stereo, because my projector has no audio/out, and neither does the XSX! I tried it on 360, but it doesn't work at all.
