It's something I really enjoy doing but I've never had an interest in anything sciency but nowdays chemistry just makes me happy and content. I love your vlog it gave me good insight on what chemistry is really like in college. If my chem mark is good enough I'll probably consider taking chemistry next year. The rotavap creates a vacuum which means fhat your sample will not fall off while there is this strong vacuum, I am very careful when the pump is not on and hold my sample, however, I would advise those just starting out with the rotavaps to use these clips as it is more secure for your sample. I just have a lot of experience now so feel comfortable not using them :)

Hello! My advice would be to put in the time and effort to learn. If you don’t understand something then don’t be afraid to ask your classmates to explain it to you or to ask your lecturers. Chemistry isn’t just about memorising but you also need fo understand the material in order to do well. The main thing I would say is don’t be afraid to ask questions and dedicate a lot of time to studying! Good luck 🤩

It all depends on your final career goals. If you are very interested in research and would like to pursue a career in research then a PhD would be very useful. Also to stay in academia and become a professor you need a PhD. You need to first figure out what your career goals are and then see if a PhD is a requirement to reach your goals or not. Hope that helps :)
I have already completed my MS Organic Chemistry and was planning to go for PhD but I kind of feel I don't have the required knowledge, time and patience for the program as it will take 5-7years of full dedication. Love this content :D I notice you de-gass your solvent before placing it in the solvent bottle for the HPLC, doesn't the action of pouring it in the solvent bottle "re-gas" it? I tend to not de-gas solvents for HPLC since there is an in-line de-gasser in most modern systems and I assumed that was sufficient? I still de-gas my buffers (Biochemist) since they get a huge amount of dissolved gases in them while making them. I'm a noob to HPLC, it's not something we use a lot in Biochem, just trying to learn here.
@drjessicagomezb
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That’s a good question - this is the way I was taught at my current lab but when I worked in Pharma we prepared the mobile phase in the bottle, de gassed it and then connected that bottle directly to the HPLC but I’m not sure if there was a reason for that. I’m also not aware if our systems have an in-line degasser but it’s something I’ll definitely check out! Thanks for suggestions and comment!

yeah this doesnt really do anything in terms of gas content, but it swaps air with the gas that she is bubbling into it. if you want to get all the gas out, you either need to put the solvent under a vacuum (not advised, since it can evaporate easily and also freeze) or use an ultrasonic bath
