A rare ringing of the five bells of the Church of the Holy Martyr Alexander in Milan (Italy)

The beautiful church dedicated to Saint Alexander is located next to the Duomo in Milan (Italy). Its façade is very characteristic, decorated with bas-reliefs in Renaissance style and dominated by twin Baroque bell towers. The left bell tower houses the two clock bells, while the right one houses the five concert bells, cast in 1951 by Pruneri in Valtellina. In this very rare video we find the ringing of the five bells, a ringing that is never performed during the year. This video is a rare exception.
- The notes of the bells are B flat, A, G, F, E flat with a weight of 3300 kg
- The two bells of the clock are an F sharp and an E
The majesty of the façade with twin towers was taken as a model for the construction of the famous church of St Agnes in Agony, in Piazza Navona in Rome. The place was famous for the presence of a prison where the soldier Alexander was detained shortly before being beheaded in Bergamo in 303. The church built in memory of the martyr was donated by the pope to the Barnabites in 1589, as the new seat of the order. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 30 March 1602 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo and construction lasted throughout the 1600s. The work was completed in 1694 with the construction of the new dome. The upper part of the façade was laid in 1711, while the glorious staircase was completed in 1717. The church is one of the most beautiful in Lombardy, considered one of the most beautiful pages of Renaissance and Baroque art in Milan. The Barnabites were expelled from the city by Napoleon in 1810 and their property confiscated by the government. The return of the clerics in 1825 contributed to the new restoration of the church, which houses a complete copy of Gottfried Silbermann's famous pipe organ from 1721 in Rötha.

Eine tolle Kirche hast du heute präsentiert. Ich finde den kleinen Platz vor der Kirche einfach schön. Dieser Ort gehört für mich zu einem der schönsten Stellen in MI. Saluti Roland 😊
