A Randomly Generated Train Trip of Greater Manchester!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We have Greater Manchester Day Rangers, and we are going to be at the Mercy of a random number generator to decide which platform and how many stops we go from any given station!

Apologies for the sub-par mic quality in this video. Accidentally recorded our mics in single channel instead of dual. And my mic is slightly quieter than Natt's, making me sound like I'm half way across the room. Whoops!

It all sounds good to me, despite my poor hearing and without my hearing aids. 👍
Well that was a lot of Piccadilly 😂 Also, the glasses swap at 8:36 😅 A random journey like this around London would be fun but crazy!

Most of (south) London's suburban network is the same as it was 60+ years ago so schedule permitting you could have some fun wandering around.. The same can't be said for Manchester. They've done a pretty good job of stitching the network together from the bits and pieces left over after the closures of the 60s and 70s but you can't really go anywhere these days that doesn't involve Piccadilly. (Even Victoria is a shadow of its former self, Exchange has gone, Central's a venue and the trams have taken over several old rail lines.) These two are far too young to know what they're missing.
@AymanTravelTransport

@@martinusher1 I had a look at the 1980s Manchester Victoria on the North Transpennine Route on Train Sim World and my mind was blown at just how much bigger it used to be, with a whopping 17 platforms compared to today's 6. Most of the platforms on the north side were demolished to make way for the Manchester Arena, while the platforms on the south side got converted to Metrolink.
And as far as anyone knows, they are still forever pinging back and forth between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport to this day

That was fun for you and Natt, having to double back between Stockport and Manchester before the randomisation settled it down a bit to/from the airport. As the rail ranger does also allow Metrolink tram travel in the central zone, a random tram might also be good fun! Maybe have a Rail Ranger sequel that starts at Manchester Victoria instead of Piccadilly, to see if that works out for different places? Enjoyed this one, good work both of you!

Another fantastic video idea. It's great to see subtle variations on existing themes to keep the videos fresh and original. Excellent work both of you 😊
Great vlog around Manchester using the GM day ranger Nick. Great way to decide where to go using random number generator.
I can't recall if I've said this before but did Natt know what she signed up for when she met you? (Or is she actually the genius behind all of this?)

Actually, this video was her idea, funnily enough! 😂
Brilliant video Nick, sounds like a cool way to use a ranger or rover ticket. Would of been funny if this was just you and Nat travelling to and from Manchester Piccadilly lots of times lol. Also I deffo agree about travelling on trains with lots of football fans, it's not great.
Looks like you two had fun. Spontaneous destinations can be good sometimes.
Here's an idea for you. Do the Transpennine Pub Crawl. Start in Stalybridge which has a pub on the platform, then stop at Marsden, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, Mirfield, Dewsbury and Leeds. I did it one rainy September day a couple of years ago and was a little unstable by the time we reached Leeds. You only need one standard ticket as you can alight at intermediate stations. Or at least that's what we did.

@@egpx Coild start with Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Victoria - Stalybridge. Although to be honest I'd probably try looking for a change at the end, because Leeds is my least favourite station. Transpennine pub crawl from Liverpool to York maybe? But then it's so close to being a full coast-to-coast journey
Always appreciate your content Nick and its always nice to see Nat in your vids keep up the good work both of you
this is def a fun way to use a day ranger i really enjoyed watching as always brilliant viideo
Very good if a bit chaotic lol.
Another epic video Nick. I do think that Northern should replace its existing rolling stocks with new trains including ordering more Class 195 and Class 331 Civity units that CAF have manufactured. And also have manufactured the Class 197 Civity.
That was a fun way to use a Greater Manchester Day Ranger
Great! Do the same thing in London. you'll get plenty of options.
I did Greater Manchester wayfarer yesterday (22/8/23) on Trains trams & Buses.
Excellent Video Nick. Should try this in other rover areas!
Great idea! It would be good to add an extra element though, like complete some sort of challenge at each station you change at
We are just back from 2 days in Maryport which was an excuse to see the sea views from the Carlisle Maryport Barrow Lancaster line. Sea views and (if you have time) the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Surely a fun one for you to do. The sunsets from Maryport looking towards Scotland were great too.
Great to see that they have some staff to run at least a few of these services. Also great to see that they’re not on strike all the time.
More of this sort of thing. With added "whoo!".
Luv these joint videos with your mate… when you have enough subs/patreons, would luv to see the random generator continue when you get to the airport. Lol
Brilliant video Nick!
I want to see more of these. How about an almost-random journey. Set off with a destination in mind, take random trains to start with, but every hour after the first gives +1 stop on trains going towards your destination, and -1 on trains that take you farther away. Would be a good way to travel to uni :) (And as soon as I typed this, I realised that I need to get to Whitby for a family holiday next month, and the lure of the RNG is strong. Is there any reason not to have a day of complete, nationwide randomness, a random Travelodge night, and then a day of semi-randomness trying to progress towards family the next day?)
Loved this, might try it for a day out with my sister
Another great video Nick I hope you and Nat can get the train somewhere and stay at hotels or somewhere nice and do some reviews be great viewing
Hey Nick I love your videos they are the best keep up the good work!
I've used that rover before and ended up doing Piccadilly to Stockport a few times then onto Oxford Road almost got stranded then to airport and went to Victoria over the ordsal chord and then went to Stalybridge and back into Manchester Piccadilly fun day I wish it included Wilmslow because you could vary it up after Stockport with TFW or AWC or northern
Sounds like an interesting way to explore! I'm really tempted to see what the possible results could be on the national rail system, but it might cost a bit to do that! Have you done the London Transport Race? Maybe one to go do and film for the day!
Loving your work. 😃Shame u didn’t get to Greenfield. I reckon you’d love the views
When I went to Vienna in May, I had a random wandering on the public transport system. The previous day I had visited every U Bahn station and the following day was Ascension Day so nothing was open. So I decided to use the routes I chose to cut out when I was planning my U Bahn challenge.
I've come up with a Pointless journey™ for you to try, if you want, Wigan Walllgate to Wigan North Western, The route, Start at Wigan Walllgate get on a train to Southport, get on a Liverpool bound train, then go to Sandhills, get off and get another train to Ormskirk from there get a train to Preston, finally get any train going to Wigan North Western or as a back up plain same but go to Liverpool Lime Street instead of Sandhills and then to Wigan North Western.
Really enjoyed this video, would had been funny if it was Manchester to Stockport and back, also Horwich Parkway is where Bolton Wanderers play as the stadium is a very short distance
Hello Nick Badley, I love watching your videos especially your pointless journeys™, me and my friend Big Phil animation did what you did in your first video and traversed the whole Mersey rail network in a day, I finally got to try the new 777 trains and I loved it! 🚋🚋🚋🚋🚋🚋
The reroll on the first train made me wonder if it would have made more sense to roll against however many trains are on the first page of the departure board.
@InkItOut
11 ай бұрын
Yeah that could have worked for the bigger stations with lots of platforms and some that don’t have many departures
This would be so fun to do out of Waterloo I feel. Not sure how it would work ticket wise but maybe you could do it staying within the oyster zones
Great video, do a tram version next?
I enjoyed this video.
This could be fun in London on the Tube network. Okay, maybe not the random platforms, but the number of stops, definitely.

Now time for this but with an all line rover
When rolling for how many stops to travel, you could add +1. So if there's 6 stations before the edge of the region, you generate a random number 1-7. Then keep going until you leave the area. Or have a 25% change of disembarking at every station you pass through.
This is such a fun idea, imagine doing this with an all lines rover! That would be an interesting one!

Derbyshire Rover gives you bus and train travel including destinations to and from Derbyshire such as; Uttoxeter, Sheffield, Burton on Trent. I've used this ticket myself before in 2021 from Long Eaton to Derby to Matlock to Bakewell to Buxton to New Mills to Sheffield to Long Eaton using buses and trains. Derbyshire Rover tickets both bus and train tickets. Costs about £14 a day. Still available AFAIK, but check Derbyshire County Council first. Great Value 👍
Used to play a game with Rover tickets , go one stop further than your allowed to
try doing it in Lincolnshire you will be here for days.
South Pennines would be good it includes Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford , Huddersfield and all the stations in between.

Pls do it at hull and start at platform 1 or 0
To randomly select a station I pulled W, N and P out of a Scrabble bag. Obviously some letters would have a higher chance because there’s twelve “E”s in the game so I emptied the bag and only put one of each letter back in.
