I just got back from seeing the movie. I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts after you see it and see if anyone else feels the same as me… I felt that this was the definition of unnecessary. I’ve been incredibly hyped for the next installment in this franchise. I wasn’t super excited when I found out that this was a prequel…. Day One had a touching, heartfelt story. But the entirety of the film was the DEFINITION OF “UNNECESSARY!! It’s so frustrating that’s it’s been YEARS since the previous Quiet Place movie, but we still don’t know what happens next! We didn’t need a prequel! And we definitely didn’t need a prequel that added absolutely nothing to the lore. We didn’t learn anything new from this movie. This movie added nothing to this universe. Yes, the acting was phenomenal from everybody, and yes, the story itself was a nice little heartfelt story. But it’s not what fans want to see in the franchise at this moment. We want to find out what happens next. And if we have to see a sequel, we want to see something that matters to this franchise

I just got back from seeing the movie and it had me on the edge of my seat AND in tears! Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn were so good! I'm glad I didn't watch anymore trailers then the first "teaser" trailer that was released.

Day One is one of the few horror films that i plan on seeing this year. I liked both films and the NYC setting with all the chaotic elements scratch that Cloverfield itch. I hope this film can become my favorite of the series.

This movie is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. It’s going to be my first horror movie in theaters. I’m going to see it today at Cinemark for the fan event. I’m so excited!!!! Both of the previous Quiet Place movies are 4.5/5 movies for me.

To me when I heard Sam say he’s from Kent in the uk I got surreal vibes inside because I’m from Kent aswell, ik it’s just me but that sort of helped me to get more invested in this movie

@glubysnot6152 I felt that way even after the test screening (which had much better scenes and alternate scenes that were better, they had a plot line/dialog about Eric that they completely took out which made it more heartfelt). But with that being said, the story and characters made up for it. The title should have been A Quiet Place New York or something and not Day One. Like Cris said, I would love to keep seeing different standalone stories of survival or personal battles in this world. That's just my thoughts.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you have any theories as to why they cut out some of these scenes that you feel were better? Also describe what they were like? I always find that part of the movie process to be phenomenal.

@glubysnot6152 it's very secretive, and you have to sign an NDA. I didn't know it was a test screening for AQPDO until they announced it before playing the movie. I've been to two, once for The Exorcist Believer (the girl lived in the ending of test screening for that one) and this movie. I think they cut it out and changed stuff due to time or tested better with audiences. Because that's what they did for Exorcist Believer. Hopefully, it's on bonus features.

SPOILER The cat lives. In fact, I don't even recall any of the Death Angels paying any mind to Frodo (the cat). He just kind of runs around and does his own thing with the characters following him, lol

Me too. For a movie marketed as "Day One" it didn't seem much like Day one. The humans seemed to adapt pretty quickly to being quiet. We didn't see a lot of rampage, just the aftermath. I wanted to know how the humans felt and reacted to these aliens

Cris. Great review. I do not think Eric is a wimp. He seems to suffer from panic attacks, and Sam was able to calm him down when everyone else he probably met was the same. At least that is how I thought Joseph Quinn was playing him. Alone in a city & not in a city he is familiar with is scary enough. So, I think his behaviour made a lot of sense during the invasion chaos.

Is it just me, or when Eric went to get Sam's meds and was hiding on top of one of the metal beams, did the monster that went up to him absolutely MASSIVE compared to him. It's head looked like it was the size of his torso.

I enjoyed it. I liked it taking place in the city instead of a rural area again so that was great, Lupita and Joesph had great chemistry especially in the emotional parts
