A Quick Tour of Sisimiut Above the Arctic Circle in W Greenland

www.TravelsWithSheila.com
Sisimiut (pop: 5,600) is the second largest and northernmost tow in Greenland (40 kilometers/24 miles) above the Arctic Circle and has been inhabited for the last 4,500 years by the Inuit, Dorset and Thule people.
Danish missionaries first settled in this area in the 1720s. Fishing is the principal industry and there is an airport served by Air Greenland.
It is important to know that dogs in Greenland are valuable to their owners as working dogs and when chained, not to be touched.

Thanks for watching, Christian, and I hope your dream comes true. It is not an easy destination to access. We recently cruised around East Greenland and watch what we see and did in the upcoming videos if you have a chance. Once again, thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Best regards, Sheila

Wow, even east Greenland! The western coast seems to be more populated. It must be even more interesting to cruise the eastern side! Thank you for your comment.

You are correct Christian about the population. It will be interesting to hear your comments on the E. Greenland side.

Lol, was the guide not cold in light fleece? Guess she was used to the weather. Cute town, looks quiet. Beautiful dogs too.

+Maya Larks As you said, she was used to the weather and it was probably warm for her in the two months of summer. Wait until you see some of the smaller towns we visited, one with 500 people. Loved the gorgeous dogs. Did you ever have a chance to watch my dog sledding video in Norway? kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKd7pMOxirHMh7w.html The dogs were so lovable that I wanted to take the puppy home with me. Best regards, Sheila

6:31: Take it easy, lady, it's mostly fish and reindeer meat, that gets sold in there. And it's so clean, just like a fish market in the US.

It didn't bother me but I have to clarify what I am seeing for viewers. It looked very clean and I would have loved to enter but didn't want to bother people. Thanks again for your views! 🥰

Thank you for the memories. When I was there was during winter time, so everything was covered by snow. Pardon my question, but what was the name of the hotel where you were filming at the beginning? Was that the Sisimiut Hotel?

I was, but not at that point in time. I used to hang around with the personnel of the base at Sondre (before they close it down).

Looks like entire Greenland is a country free from the hassle and bustle of city life. So nice and I wish I'd just move from the hassle of African traffic and settle in one of the villages there. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I certainly can understand your thoughts, Elijah, but they have their own problems; climate change, subsistence living, and alcoholism from the long, dark winters. 🙈 There’s always something isn’t there? Thanks so much for your time to view and comment and best regards, Sheila 😍

Am I the only person who finds it a little strange that this town looks warmer, greener and more comfortable than resolute or iqualiuit? which are further south? Global warming? ice caps melting?
