Yes! They seem to be doing well. I’m glad I didn’t sell her as cranky as those bees are. But they are productive and I need to make a lot of honey so I will keep her around for now.

Yeah I plan to give them some space this weekend. Hopefully that will keep them from swarming until I can get some splits made.

Checked in on mine today and see some nectar! Not sure from what. I see some henbit, chickweed, and some little yellow flowers on the side of the road. Maybe that’s it.

Could be. But I think the red maple has probably been blooming in the woods though I am not sure. Something has them growing.

Fantastic! Lot of bees there. I'd be making some splits or adding some supers! Swarming is likely. Woohoo! Love the well marked Big Red I'm about 6 weeks behind you I think. Be checking in on them this week hopefully.

Yes they are looking good. They usually build up pretty fast here. But I am concerned that we might have some more cold weather coming. I need to keep an eye on them.

Yes that is what I am worried about. It’s a little early though. It’s a fine line we tread here every year. The weather can be so inconsistent.

Yes I believe we will be doing some splits as soon as possible. The weather is a little tricky this time of year so it can be a bit risky.

I’m really happy for your success Bruce! I’ve had 90 % losses this season. Can’t seem to get ahead of the mites. Maybe this season will be better.

@@jamskinner thanks for your response. The reason I think it’s mites is because all 3 BeeWeaver packages I bought had around 60 mites in a 300 bee wash. Maybe the colonies in close proximity were contaminated?

Hang in there. I am having a really tough time with my bees in Ozark. Fortunately I have some other locations with good strong bees. It is hard to lose bees. Can be very discouraging. But you just have to pick up the pieces and try again.

@@brucesbees I think the problem I have is not being able to get good packages. I’m starting out with mite bombs or just bees that have no ability to fend off mites. I was doomed from the get go. I’m not giving up but I need to figure this out. Love the channel. I’ve got some great info from you Bruce. Thanks

Ha Bruce always enjoy the videos I wish I could get into mine. I just finished watching an old video on introducing a virgin queen You did a while back got some ordered in May. Not cories but mike palmer a woman down her got some of his queens somehow and she is grafting from them and selling the daughters. anyway, I wanted some. I still have some of gregs still living I am going to make queens from this spring if they are living. Your bees are doing great, and I am glad for u. Have a Blessed week

It won’t be long now! I need to split as soon as I possibly can. But we probably have a bit more crazy weather on the way.

Those looked good. Just say I made a huge split Sunday with my may hive by shaking them all out and letting the ones who could fly fly back to the original hive as an experiment. My hives are loded with drones right now as well. We will see what happens brother.

Will probably introduce cells or queens. I want to make some of my own queens this year but it’s a little soon.

Do you think bees can make white wax out of nectar they have stored of have in the colony? Does there always have to be a flow if there is white wax? Wonder if they had it stored? Or could they use honey to make it? Im just thinking out loud. Any thoughts?

I believe that typically they make wax from fresh nectar or a food source. Honey is more of a food storage for bees. The fresh stuff coming in is what stimulates them to make wax and babies.

I doubt it. We usually have some things trickling in this time of year here in southeast Alabama. That’s why the bees tend to explode a bit. But then sometimes the weather turns south on us or we have a little bit of dearth and the bees can starve. Just have to watch them close.

It is risky this time of year due to inconsistent weather. But. I will do some splits as soon as I feel confident that I can.

I checked my hives today too and they have brought in a ton of honey in just the last couple weeks! I'm really surprised. I don't see any flowers anywhere. I have my bees in Camden Alabama. I rode around on the side by side all over our property and didn't see a single flower. Is it weird for them to have made so much honey in such a short period of time?

Yeah it’s bizarre when they do that. Probably some maples or something blooming high up in trees that are not visible. But I hear ya. It’s wild. If it’s out there they will find it.

One more question please. If I want to split one of my hives this year when should I do that? I'm in Camden Alabama.

When you see drones and have confidence the weather will cooperate enough for queens to get mated. Unless of course you have access to mated queens. Then you could probably split about now. It is possible you could split now anyway. Just risky.
