A QUESTION OF POWER - THE MANAPOURI DEBATE (1980)

New Zealand’s National Film Unit presents
The controversy over Lake Manapouri was the first, national scale, environmental battle in New Zealand's history. The argument raged between 1959 and 1972 and has resolved itself in a successful compromise. The issues involved in Manapouri mirror the continuing and often conflicting social demands for energy as well as conservation and the story as it unfolds demonstrates some of the principles of democracy in action.
