A PUZZLING Discovery! How Did It get In That Very Spot? The Day Before The Ban
In this video we are battling to get the last of our slurry out the day before the ban comes in. We also find a very odd tool stuck in our dribble bar macerator! That one still has us puzzled....

So water and cow manure = slurry‼️ I’m old now and only had 9 years on the farm as a child in USA Idaho. I love watching your efficiently run farming experience‼️
The mystery of the screw driver. Cracking video as always
JCB 535-140. She is around 2014; She can lift 3.5 tonne at a distance of 14 metres. She's worth about €35,000.
That’s a sparks screwdriver.. probably floating around in the slats. Copper grease is a great in the tanker
Always amazed by how much you do, and how easy you make it look.👍❤
Great video Adrian
Well done!☘️👍
Nice one Adrian
Adrian you shouldn’t feel the need to explain things a second time as you did with the screwdriver as I like many more wouldn’t question it for a second .Your honestly shines through in all your videos, it’s one of the main things that drew me here in the first place. Did you get much rain today up north as we are getting washed out of it here in Tralee
I just love the way you care for and maintain your equipment. It’s to be admired without a doubt.

Most of the times i grease up after im done using a machine, so it's ready to go the next time. And als before AND after cleaning it, like you said, to get the water out.
Got yourself a new screwdriver and it’s a hard wearing one 😂

Wow Adrian! Strange to see the screwdriver as you say. Could it have been left in the collection pit wham it was built? ? Thank you for sharing.🐄

DAT BLUDY SCREWDRIVER BOOGIE MAN 😂. GREAT VID 😊
looks like a sparkies screw driver - anyone doing wiring on poles near your cutting fields? good work on the preventative maintanance.
Screwdriver from the builders sorting the shed out maybe, dropped and flushed into the slurry tank somehow. It's definitely an electricians screwdriver.
Nice to see they oil webs day video but won’t sleep eating on the next video
Hi Adrian. I am an Aussie viewer with no background in farming but love your channel. Hooked on your hard working ethic, moral compass, honesty and candor. That’s a very wet spot unfortunately, but a will do so in the future and add a gravel pass up the side on the hill just to make access a little easier
You can spread soiled water up to the 1st of December. So don't panic
Spray outside of the tanker with used hydraulic oil/diesel. Keeps the paint good and prevents rust. She'll look like a new tank!
I always grease my machines when I'm finished working them for the year Adrian. As you say, it keeps the water out and stops frost getting in. Its also a good idea to spray the whole machine with oil and diesel mix. I use 2 to 1 oil and diesel , it keeps it like new for next year.

I suppose it’s feasible it could have been sat somewhere and dislodged and I know the brand & does look discoloured They are a cheapish brand and usually come in sets. When a house brick can get sucked up and get stuck in the macerator then a screwdriver is a possibility. Definitely an odd find. Another great vid as always.

I have a suggestion as to who put it there, was it Phillips?🤔
The fact that you had to hit the macerator cover with a hammer to open it, suggests that if someone had put the screwdriver in there, it must have been a while ago.
That was quite a lot of 💩. I am glad that hitchhiking screw driver did no harm-so weird🙄
You are lucky. We still needed a good 100k Gallon to go out to make us safe till February. We will have to shutter a tank which will cost a fortune or pay someone to take it.🙁
Screwdriver has to be from the spark that wired the shed Adrian

What we do when sitting at winter is we open the massorator we fill with diesel n close it up again so it not rust n it perfect comeFebruary
On the JCB, not sure what the first 5 stands for, the 35 meant 3.5 ton weight limit and the 140 means 14 metre reach. It's construction spec. Most agri don't go higher than 7metre reach as far as I'm aware, though I could be wrong
@retrorevolution6534
8 ай бұрын
Aye I think you're right there, I thought the 140 was maybe horsepower but apparantly it's 108hp (had to google out of curiosity tbh!). I've used a few telehandlers over the years myself, mainly loadalls but manitous and various different loaders on farms and I also worked for a skip hire company as a machine driver. They had a 535 on hire once for a week or so and I'm sure it was a 140 as it had the legs on the front, tripple extending boom with the ram on the top and massive back end and tbh, compared to the CAT TH62s that we used at the time it was as numb as!! Visibility was terrible and it was a gutless thing for shifting material about (soil and rubble mainly), Don't get me wrong though, it was just not the right machine for the job, god knows why they even hired it in the first place, it should have been pottering about on a building site lifting materials up to the second or third floor of a new build which is what they're made for and bloody good at too. A JCB 531 70 on the other hand, Which I spent a lot of time on, lovely machine, would give the old CATs a run for their money (though I would probably rather have a TH62 in all honesty) just loads more visability, way more nimble and manouverable and enough power to do the job. It would be way more suited to farm work for someone like Adrian compared to a 535. Another thing to add, the 531 I used to drive was a two lever instead of a joystick, never used to like them, hated it at first but once I got the hang of it, loved it, I probably like using them more than the loadalls with a joystick now! I would be interested to hear other people's opinions on that! The 5? I think is Telehandler/ type of machine, 4 are loading shovels I guess, 436, 435, 414 etc. Not sure about the rest.
@liammcelhone5572

@retrorevolution6534 drove a 531-70 and 526S at my last job. Good machines but wouldn't recommend to anyone. Not that there was anything wrong with them but these days if a shovel isn't hydrostatic, long term your just asking for transmission trouble. We had to strip the whole machine down and put a new transmission into the 531-70 at the last spot and she only had 5.5/6k hours on it. New spot im at has a 741 Class scorpion. Hydrostatic transmission takes a bit of getting used to but when you are they are just as easy worked. The construction spec shovels never have as much horse. No need for it. The 531-70 at my last spot was an agri super at 145 hp. Not sure what the 741 im working with now is but id say around the same. Easiest way to tell the difference between construction and agri spec is that agri never have more than 1 boom

If you use hydraulic oil it’s lighter than engine oil so you only need to add enough diesel so it can be sprayed on. I normally go 1/4 diesel to 3/4’s oil

Michael Cusack Smith yes

Hi Adrian! Could you explain what a slurry ban is? I understand what slurry is for… by why would there be a ban on it at times? I use a form of slurry on quite a bit smaller scale on my lawn. (Rabbit turds steeped in 40 gallons of water like a tea). Let is steep for a week or so in an old pillow case, and you have a potent “Bunny Brew” to fertilize your lawn with. I spread it with the garbage barrel sitting in my tractor cart with a “T” pipe drilled with holes. I’ve never heard of a slurry ban on farms in the U.S.A., but I could be wrong. Love your channel!!! Thank you, and Stay Safe!!!

Slurry is prohibited from being spread over the winter in Ireland so as to comply with the European Union’s Nitrates Directive. The aim is to protect ground and surface water, including drinking water. The regulations also prohibit such application at any time of the year when the ground is frozen, waterlogged or heavy rain is forecast

How do clean out the maserator to get the diesel out of the lines? Does transferring the slurry clean it out or do you use something else? That screwdriver being there is worrying to me. Can't see it being in the tank, like you said, it's too clean. I see the branches are up now in the shed. Hope they work as well as last year.

I watch several farmers, Pemberton and Funky Farmer, and they all speak of the slurry ban after a certain date. Why is that? What is the purpose of only permitting slurry spreading at certain times?
@MuddyPigg
8 ай бұрын
I think it's to protect the water supply from contamination from the slurry. Farmers have to be careful about how much they spread and where. Not within 10m of waterways or 50m for wells. Maybe October is traditionally a wet time in Ireland and it will give the ground time to soak it up before the rain hits?
@chucklesx

The main reason is to not spread nitrogen during the winter months when the plants are not growing so it doesn't get used and can leach in waterways
