A proper crayfishing session

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After being limited to just 2 hour crayfishing sessions, I was so excited to be able to go out for my first proper crayfishing session of the season.
Although the crayfishing wasn't red hot, I was still able to get onto a few crayfishing including one really big crayfish, my biggest this season so far.

When your net gets snagged Robbie, try a couple of wraps around your waist/hips and walk backwards up the bank - saves raw hands (but doesn't always save the net!). See you caught another 'clock' lol. Funny you should mention horses - A pony goes to the doctor and tells him, “Doc, I think I’m dying. I have this terrible sore throat.” The doctor assures him, “It’s okay-you’re just a little horse.”

Here in the states, we trap crayfish in a very different way. I make my own box style trap out of chicken wire, bait them with hotdogs, raw meat (cheap stuff at the store), drop them in the morning and retrieve at dusk or drop them in the evening and pull in the morning. If I'm feeling particularly adventurous, I go after them using my hands and a mask/snorkel/fins.

  • @robbiefishing

That is awesome. Those types of nets are illegal here in Australia. We can use them for yabbies, which are much smaller like your crayfish, but they have to meet strict maximum size requirements to ensure they don't catch these big crayfish.

When I was 11 or 12 we went camping down in Washington State, where I got introduced to crayfishing. The technique was to tie a string around a piece of bacon and let it sink. The crayfish would cling on until they reached the surface, so we'd use a small fishing net to scoop them. Have you ever tried bacon? For prawns and crabs raw chicken works better than dogfood. Punctured tins of seafood catfood work well sometimes as well.

Robbie as a Vet, i beg you Please don't feed your dog goodos or lucky dog lol. They're full of fillers, chemicals and by products. The reason it's a good cray bait and holds it's shape is the very reason why it's bad for dogs, basically just flavoured plastic with no nutritional value. Also the way it swells up and doesn't break up is what happens in a dogs stomach. If you have to feed your dog kibble, stick to ivory coat, has real 35% protein with real meat, no by products and is full of fruits, veggies and fibre with ZERO fillers. (Sorry bud, the vet in me had to comment lol)
