"🐐🌟 A Productive Day in the Snow: Herding Spanish Bucks & Grazing the Big Herd! 🌨️

Ойын-сауық

Jordan moves the Spanish bucks closer to home for people to come buy them. Received the last of our leased out goats to make the herd whole again! Gave the big herd of goats a fresh new paddock to graze! #regenerative #farming #soilhealth #grazing #brush

Watching this video had me flashing back to the time when those goats were jumping off the semi transport, wild as can be. They appear to have performed very nicely, and the transformation in how nicely they can be moved now is evident of your hard work and how comfortable they are now with the process. You have done a wonderful job choosing that type of goat for your farm.

Thank You! Yeah it’s been fun watching how far they’ve come that’s for sure! Definitely happy with how they’ve performed under our management as well! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

Hi Jordan, great video of rounding up the goats. It was funny to see how fascinated they were with the berry bushes. It is really evident that they know what they like. With the size difference in the goats it is surprising that they don't fight over places to graze? I guess if there is plenty to eat, they are ok.

Thanks! Yeah your right. They have enough space that they all can get enough to eat and not get beat up over it. Have a great weekend!

Those goats are looking pretty hardy. Cool to see that big dairy barn in the background, the plan is moving forward one step at a time. Will be interesting to see how they do this winter, i said i would never have goats again, but these ones are looking pretty good. The new farm has plenty of buckthorn on it, a few of them may be beneficial. Looking good Jordan, have a wonderful day

Thanks George! Yeah they’re fun for sure! God made different creatures to help us manage different things that’s for sure! Goats are the brush pruners! That’d be pretty cool to see goats on your farm! Have a good one George!

We ran does with ewes in the snow once. About 8 inches covering fescue/clover regrowth. The ewes would dig the snow up and the Nannie’s would horn them out of the way and eat what was dug up. Them sheep and goats were rolling fat, but that feed that was snowed under was really nice.

That’s awesome! I hope to keep these guys out grazing and browsing as long as I can. I hope to put winter them here as well and use the woods as shelter as well but we’ll see how it goes. They’ll let me know how they’re handling it along the way. Have a nice weekend!

We had a good 6 inches of snow one week ago. Ewes are still grazing. It is work to move those nets but if you calculate the cost of feed you make a good wage moving nets. Guy

@WholesomeFamilyFarms Kiko/Boar Kiko & Kinko/ Spanish. I have a boar buck but all my does are other listed above. Next year I'll breed Kiko/Spanish Buck only. I'm so happy with the Parasite resistance. And how hardy they all are.

@@Stella77_7 having the right ones definitely makes a difference! Before we got our Spanish goats we thought we’d try a Kiko buck. Spent big money on it thinking we were going to change our herd. Drove a few hours to get it. Brought it home that fall and started breeding with him . He didn’t make it only a couple weeks into our breeding season and we lost him. I have no idea how he went backwards so fast but apparently he wasn’t meant to last in our program. Breed matters a little bit but overall the management style in how they are raised and the epigenetics they have makes the world of difference.

@WholesomeFamilyFarms well that stinks! So unfortunate. So fare these Kiko crossed with the Spanish and boar are doing well. What i notice first was the fact they eat anything. Dry berdoc, tag alder.....that will deff be a asset. I have a meeting with three county USDA reps next month. They want to put me on their Invasive Species grant list as a natural alternative to poison. I'm stoked.

So you have Guardian dogs and herding dogs? How do they interact? I assume the guardians know that the herding dogs are not a threat?

Yes.. they get along just fine. When they first met each other it was a little getting used to each other then but they got over it fine.

We got a few😉. We’re still wanting to expand the herd since we haven’t even touched all our ground with the goats yet. There is so much brush for them to eat it’s crazy.
