Fair play to James for explaining that there was no data on how the tyres would do as the rain had stopped considering the number of laps still ahead for George at that time and justifying him going on Hards then mediums on the last stint, subsequently justifying for Lewis to get Hards as a Last tyre. what is bothering most Mercedes fans is how Bono answered the questions when Lewis was asking what the options are in tyres vs Laps. He only mentioned Soft after Lewis asked him a second time "are there no other tyres available besides Hards?" of which he answered Softs thats the problem because then to Lewis and others that causes doubt as to why didnt you tell him the first time around as tyre options. To the viewers it made Bono and the team look questionable in providing feedback on tyre availability and why didnt he say rather , we recommend Hards but we also have Softs which are huge risk the first time he asked. It was like Bono was telling him which tyre to choose even though Softs were available. We know Lewis is the best on the grid on managing tyres..Gasly did more than 11 laps the 2023 on softs. what bothers most people its sounded like manipulation into forcing him to take Hards when he can have an input into selecting Softs..Anyway we will see in Barca how things go, seeing Merc is managing medium to slow corners well now, im betting on an opportunity for Pole again for either George or Lewis

I think that's because they didn't consider the softs a viable option at that point in the race. So technically one was sitting there which could be used if there was a free pit stop to shoot for fastest lap, with > 10 laps to go there was no way they'd outperform the hards, no matter what the driver might feel. The first answer was the practical "don't give the driver extra things to think about" answer, the second one was the clarification.

I think Red Bull RB20 will be super fast there with the flat corners and soft kerbs and will be massive favorites for the third straight win in Barcelona, but we should beat Ferrari and Mclaren in this track with the new super upgrades!

Just speculation but it seems like Mercedes agenda is to make GR believe he is better than a 7 time world champion, hoping he improves and take the role of lead driver which makes way for Antonelli being driver no.2 The fact that GR has to look at Hams data to improve should be a give away that losing Ham next season will be a big loss to the team.

Lewis was flying in FP, significantly quicker than George. I think his tyres weren't up to temp when it came out of the blankets.

Essentially you gave george the preferred strategy because you mentioned the hard tire was better against the graining which is why you fitted george with it in when you first changed to slicks which if there was no safety car lewis wouldve struggled at the end with the mediums whilst george wouldve been fine. So either way george was on better strategy which i guess he deserved for qualifying ahead of lewis anyway.

Spot on! James mentioned that they thought the Hard was better when switching from slicks. And they put George on the hards. That was obviously the preferred strategy. They put Lewis at risk if the second safety car had not come out because he would have struggled on mediums for all those laps.

​@@rozburg They could've done the same with Lewis too though. At the time Lewis was no threat to Russell. Asking him to do a 25lap stint on graining mediums was probably not the smart thing to do. The 2nd safety car saved Lewis' race.

James is being diplomatic. They were going to switch Lewis to hard, but he insisted on going to the medium. It didn't work out in the end. That's it!

Great result which obviously could've been better but it was nice to see us back in front. George will grow and learn to make less mistakes but it's hard to judge him when everyone, even Lewis, were struggling on track with those conditions. Onwards to the next one!

Lewis's tyre blankets need looking at. Lewis is saying his tyres are underheated going out of the garage, into qualifying. And Lewis asked for softs at that last pitstop in the race, so why put him on hards? Why is he having to almost force information out of Bono?? Why are you not giving Lewis all the relevant information in the races? He said if he had known that George was going to pit, he would have stayed out. Is it too much for you on the Merc pitwall to feed Lewis the information he needs to manage his race????? I must say, there is a growing feeling of distaste among various F1 fandom at the way a 7x WDC is being treated. It looks poor on Toto, it looks poor on Mercedes. You are losing respect as a team.

According to the team radio, there was also a soft tire available to Lewis... and was only admitted when Lewis asked for one.

I think the underlying theme running through all these comments is suspected sabotage.

This is not true on the radio. The engineer told Lewis there were soft and hard tyres available. Lewis preferred the soft tyres, but your engineer insisted that Lewis should change over to the hard tyres. This was broadcast on Sky TV. Lewis was given the hard tyres, so he couldn't challenge George.🙄🙄🙄🙄

Probably the soft tires weren't durable enough, not even for 12 laps or so.

Probably track specific here RB and Ferrari aren’t in the picture and weather played a huge roll.

The part 4:22 where Olivia discreetly begins to talk about the subject of tire temperature is interesting. They know of the great conflict that exists in the networks regarding Hamilton, and Allison tries to justify and explain the matter, without mentioning Lewis, of course. Mercedes puts james Allison who is the best engineer in a way to set some authority in this video, but people konws...there is something behind the scene....

Those claims are just dumb. You guys have no proof of any schemes against Lewis and all you say is just tin foil theories. The team's top priority is always to get the best position in the standings because of $$$. Without Lewis's contribution the team will not make $$$ because George cannot carry the team on its own like Max is doing with RB. Just stop.

I'm not saying there's sabotage, but they clearly aren't paying attention to Hamilton anymore and it shows. Maybe that's normal, maybe it isn't but saying nothing is happening is stupid and objectively not true.

When a driver underperforms, he starts questioning everything, but in the end, Lewis accepted it was his fault. It looks like W15 characteristics don't match Lewis' driving style(braking really late and getting a normal exit vs. George, who likes to brake early and get a really good exit)

James explains tire blankets are only allowed up to 70 degrees but they don't say why Lewis's was below that.

This is simply not the case whatsoever, if anything we see Lewis performing in W15 better than George and George went off track several times during this race and has gone off several times in other races because he doesn't brake early at all. See the bout he had with Alonso several races back, didn't brake early and ended up in a wall.

Nobody used the softs in the race. Last year's Canadian GP just had one soft tyre stint. This tyre is the C5, and as James points it out, the mediums grained very quickly on Friday. The softs might have been good for 3-4 laps, but after that they'd have died...

I’m glad he explained the split strategy decision. He’s essentially saying they experimented, and LH got the short end. What F1 drive said, “When split the strategy all you do is guarantee that one driver will lose.”

After all the details into consideration, the fans can now have a better understanding of the race results. Although you can see how the team manipulated the outcome in favor of George. Mercedes isn't stupid, why would they promote a driver which is going to Ferrari next year.

It cost them the win. Lewis was easily going to win from Pole.

Nothing is more harmful than unfair practices. In the final third practice in Canada, no driver came close to Lewis. All of the practice data information was handed to George in order to defeat Lewis, who was given poorer tyres and was therefore unable to compete with George during the Canadian race. There were hard and soft tyres available. Making Lewis work against himself by giving data that will help George. Lewis finished second in the Chinese sprint event, and Mercedes has refused to recognise Lewis's accomplishments. Mercedes stated that George's third place was the first prize of the year, which is false.

George used Lewis Hamilton's data statistics from three practices in Canada, when Lewis was the fastest to get on pole. So Lewis is working for George. Why is Mercedes turning down Lewis' car during qualifying?

Lewis was given the hard tyres because that was the best option at that point, but those in front of both Mercedes were not going to change their tyres, and it was a free pit stop in respect to the the cars behind, so why wasn't the decision for Lewis to run the current tyres longer, until the softs became feasible? How it has taken two seasons at least to acknowledge and address Mercedes slow pit stop problem, teams way down the grid have for a long time been consistently a second quicker than Mercedes. If a team is not within a fraction of a second of the competing teams that should have been a priority a long time ago.

As soon as I heard that James was coming back into the front line, I 'knew' he'd be able to dig us out of the hole Mercedes have been in since 2022. He's such a talent, and such a safe pair of hands too. Adrian Newey rightly gets praise heaped on him, but James Allison has such an impressive track record of winning cars too. Looking forward to seeing this car develop and finish the season like an absolute train, as it always did during that ridiculous winning streak not so long ago.

James is the sort of person we need in government. Someone with brains.

That's Merc for you, always super conservative with their strategies.

George should have won that race. He's proven to be quite quick and capable in a car in spurts but doesn't seem to be able to string together a race from the front consistently. His racecraft needs some work. Lewis, Alonso, and Max are another level with their racecraft.

Well the track got resurfaced, also the track was cold due to rain and all, so technically speaking there would be relatively low deg/ graining. And comparison between RD and Merc is not really justifiable because they could be different wing levels and different downforce levels, also different tracks and suspension setup etc etc. But my question is why different tyre strategies, 1 on hard and other on medium?

Mercedes feels the need to post a video to justify a tyre change. They know not only they jeopardised Lewis’ race and their own race, they are having some backlash of their reputation now. If they are confident in Russell, they should give both drivers equal tyres and let them race

Always save 2 new medium tyres in a race!! Also SLH needed 20 laps for the hard s to make a difference! But overall Good Job!! In Spain don't use up your Soft n Medium tyres in practice please!

Why would you do that? You don't need two new mediums for the race unless you're expecting a 3 stop race. Even then, you'd use a medium used set likely.

It was raining dude. Their tyre allocation isn't the same as if it was a dry track 🙄

Lewis wanted the mediums not hards,they were used but he was going to be quicker and there was few laps remaining.

James you never mention the softd that lewis had. He had a set of 2lap old softs and your telling me the hards would be faster over 10laps. Stop it!! It's clear to see your favouring george and rightly so in many ways because he is with you next year. Lewis should stop helping develop the car now

Bars....Lewis took 20 laps to get the hards to work. If it was about splitting strategy softs would be ideal. Ham would've got p2 or the win!
