I remember my dad consoling me, he said son, the Rams don't have a chance to win but they had a good season. Then Ferragamo worked his magic and the rest is History. God Bless the RAMS!

I absolutely love these older games. So much reminds me when I was young watching these. I always remember CBS had the NFC and NBC had the AFC. These full broadcast should be available to watch somewhere not just highlights that are 15 minutes long.

Of ALL the Rams teams of the 1970s to make the super bowl this 9-7 version did it. They always had trouble with the Cowboys and Vikings. They gave Steelers a tough challenge and it was a great game to watch.

The 70's Rams beat the Steelers more often than not. Actually, the Rams have more victories overall against the Steelers over the course of several decades. The Cowboys only beat the 70's Steelers once in that decade.

Saw it then saw it now great rivalry in the '70's. Cowboys beat LA twice in the Colisium in the playoffs and rams beat Cowboys twice in Dallas. Go LA rams!

Awesome to see this put up on the channel. I had a feeling it might show up seeing the matchup this weekend. The entire '79 playoffs AND the pro bowl saw Jack Youngblood basically play on one foot as he had a broken left fibula! This game was also the last for the great Roger Staubach.

One of the great playoff games of all time…. Billy Waddy’s catch and run was truly shocking…. The Cowboys had the game in the bag and lightning struck!

Remember this like it was yesterday, I grew up a huge Rams Fan and still am to this day, despite Georgia stealing them and moving them to St. Louie!! Thank God Stan brought them back home where they belong!!! . I'll admit whole heartedly I didn't think we had much chance in this game in Big D, the Cowboys were damn good, especially at home!! My boy Vince Ferragamo, despite his picks in this game, came through HUGELY to Waddy when we needed it most!! Most memorable to me in those in those days was Vin Scully on CBS calling the Play by Play like the Great Pro he always was!!!

Ferragamo really outplayed Staubach and that was the difference in the game.

Yeah, Youngblood wins the awards for the toughest and most stubborn player of all time. He had his fibula snapped in half, yet came back out to finish this game, played in the conference championship game and Super Bowl XIV, AND played in the Pro Bowl.

Thank you for posting this. For me being a Rams fan since 1968, this is a watershed moment. After all the playoff frustrations from 1969 through the 70's with great teams, they were unable to defeat the Vikings or Cowboys in the big playoff games. This time they knocked off a great Cowboys team and went on to the Super Bowl. Even though they lost to the mighty Steelers, there was a great deal of satisfaction. To beat the Cowboys in Dallas and silence the crowd was a long awaited joy.

The Septien kicks before half led to the Smith TD right before the half. The last TD to Texan Billy Waddy was a great pass, but was tipped by Cowboy lineback Mike Hegman. You're right, it felt like it was destined for the Rams. As a Cowboys fan, I'll never forget Jack Youngblood playing on what they didn't know at the time was a broken leg. He wanted it. As disappointed as I was in this loss, I was more hurt when the Rams lost to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.

Long awaited joy? You completely forgot the Rams did the exact same thing in 1976 - beating favored Dallas in Dallas 14-12 to advance to the NFC Championship. And the Rams beat the Vikings in 1978 34-10 to advance to the NFC Championship though that was an easy win. Prior to that you guys were the Vikings bitch - you lost in 1968, 1974, 1976, and 1977. By the 1978 NFC title game, the Rams were so spooked that even though they had home field advantage they wore white jerseys at home to break their jinx. That jersey BS doesn't work and they lost 28-0. The Cowboys did the same thing in Super Bowl V by wearing their blue jerseys to break their supposed jinx as if the jersey had something to do with it. They still lost. The Broncos wore white in Super Bowl 50 to break their orange jersey jinx and they did win but give me a break. It means nothing. As to this game, amazing that the Hail Mary at the end of the half was the difference. Of all the Rams teams to get to a Super Bowl it was the 9-7 one. But the Steelers were not going to lose to a 9-7 team with Ferragammo. No siree Bob.

Fox started the practice of having a constant score grpahic on the screen when they got the nfc package in 1994. NBC was the last holdout, didnt adopt the practice until the early 2000's, but before they got the nfl back with the sunday night game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were the team of the '70s. They won 4 super Bowls. They could never beat the Steelers.

Almost made the frustration of being a Rams fan for the whole of the 70s worth it. Billy Waddy is the legend of the 70s like Flipper Anderson was in the 80s. Go Rams!!

I appreciate you sharing this video. Two things stood out to me. The way they used to tackle. It looks like a car crash. Secondly, I miss Vin Scully. He's now in Dodger Valhalla with Tommy Lasorda.

Watched every second of this game, and now this video. So Good. Horns Up. :-)

This play, at 10:16 is the same play that was called against the Steelers in SB XIII, when Jackie Harris was wide open and dropped the ball.

I HATE this game. I remember crying because we all knew it was probably going to be Staubach's last game. His last ever completion was to Herb Scott and was a penalty. LOL! I still cheered for the Rams when they made it to the Super Bowl though because my dislike of Pittsburgh was even greater.

I would kill to see this game life

I was in a week long coma at USC Medical Center intensive care unit. I had a bad case of Spinal Meningitis and I was fighting for my life. While out of my mind talking gibberish, I told nurses and family members the Rams had to win this game for me to survive. This is the first time seeing this game. Oh yea, I survived (obviously), thanks to the Rams?

I was 12 years old and my dad was a big Rams fan 🤣 anyway he got us super bowl tickets from his client we got the 30 Yard line and my Steelers won hell yeah 31-19 a very quiet ride back to Alhambra hahaha this when football ruled 💯 cheers from Pasadena CA 🏈🏈🏈

I went into boot camp on the Friday before this game. Never seen the highlights of this game.

I knew you guys we're going to play this video since you already showed us Eric Dickerson 1985 playoff game story

I remember this game, parts and bits seem like it was yesterday……. Cullen Bryant was clear to me like it was yesterday, Wow the offense was so vanilla, what a difference in the offenses that are today… Brought back fabulous memories for me, love the Rams since 68….. the next week the Rams went to Tampa and won 9-0 I do believe….

This was referee Jerry Markbreit's first playoff assignment. (He did the 1978 Pro Bowl.) When he retired in 1998, he finished with 25 postseason games including four Super Bowls. And the line judge (#4) in this game is Bob McElwee, who was later promoted to referee and ended up doing three Super Bowls.

I was born in 1977 this was my 1st time watching this game and I can honestly say no matter what Era I love watch the Cowgirls lose.😈

Jack Youngblood would play in the nfc championship, super bowl, and pro bowl with a fractured left fibula after this game.

I watched this game live and I was in disbelief the whole day and night and was shellshocked afterwards couldn't believe they lost this game 🤐🤔

Me too, but in hindsight the loss isn’t as shocking. The 1979 season was chaotic for Dallas. Ed Jones retired to Box. Charlie Waters missed the entire season with a knee injury. Thomas Henderson was kicked off of the team in November. Dallas literally lost the strong side of their defense that year. The 1979 team wasn’t as strong as the ‘’77 and ‘78 squads. In fact, I think the ‘79 Cowboys and ‘79 Rams were among the weakest teams either franchise fielded in the 1970s.

I saw this game on TV back in 1979 it was one of the happiest of my life

Well, if it's any consolation, they did play earlier in that season, with the Steelers winning, 14-3.

I think this is the game where Jack Youngblood broke his leg but still played the whole game and the rest of the postseason. Personally, I think that crosses the line between playing through pain and just being reckless.

Strange symmetry with the way this game ended and how the 1976 Ram upset finished. In 1976, the Rams ran out the clock on the final play by setting up to punt, then having their punter run out of the end zone to give up a harmless safety. Here they faked a FG.

My Claim to Fame: I graduated from El Camino jr college, which is Dryer's alma mater. The administration hall displayed a trophy case, and I would always point out his picture to my classmates. He came from Lawndale high, and moved on to San Diego State.

I still watch Hunter from time to time.

Ron Smith had almost as many career playoff TDs (3) as regular-season TDs (4).

Both these QB's came from colleges that ran the wishbone or triple option offense, in Navy and Nebraska. Where they next to never passed the ball unless they we're trailing. Navy only throws 10 passes a game now in this era! Staubach probably only attempted 100 passes his entire 4 years at navy!

Everyone talks about Joe Gibbs.. but after Vince Lombardi brought a perpetually moribund franchise from the grave in only one season, George Allen WAS THE ONE who started the winning culture in DC as a regular thing (pardon the irony of this comment... Because after another bad season in the 2010s, his son Bruce Allen said "we have good culture" as a lame excuse or response. Us Redskins fans tore him apart immediately online!). Anyhow, thanks George Allen.. even though I'm not Rams fan, I could not help but to think of his natural enjoyment of them finally pulling it off a decade after he left the team
