A Person Centred Counsellor

An excerpt from the DVD "A Person Centred Counsellor" released by Counselling DVDs with Norma James. This consists of a 55 minute unscripted session in which the client - in reality a colleague of Norma’s - works with real material. This is followed by two short debrief sessions with the counsellor and client.and a 33 minute interview with Mike Simmons in which Norma talks about the Person Centred Approach.
It provides a rare opportunity to see a real counselling session, unscripted, unplanned, just as it happened, and comes with an accompanying booklet of further reflections on the session

Even though the counsellor sounds somewhat nervous herself, I think she conducted an excellent counselling session.

How? All I can see is her doing is paraphrasing, almost like an echo in this short clip. Maybe empathy through those words but thats about it.

Disagree. She is neutral and leaves space for the client to talk. She did a great job and did person centered therapy

jenwill11 Prove me wrong. What’s the point of it? The person stops giving a shit the moment you stop handing them your money. Talk to someone who actually cares about you.

@@TheRoarWithin Im guessing you had one or two sessions, weren't 100% better or where you wanted to be and that soured your opinion of it. Ive had 20 hours of personal therapy and looking at my history and make up has been immensely rewarding for me and has really changed me as a person and enabled me to assert myself better in my day to day life.

1.i totally get you and relate personally but i know for a fact that many people do find it extremely helpful. 2. If the therapist is not really empathic and really just wants your money then your absolutely right it wont work even for people that can benifit from it.
