I think some of Maria Trolle’s earlier books would be appropriate for a first coloring book as well. They are very good quality with a variety of pictures and are not intimidating. I also think that gifting a small set of Prismacolors with the book would allow the new colorist to really enjoy the process of coloring and not be frustrated with low quality pencils.

I totally agree about Prismacolor pencils - they will help immensely ! When I got my first Prismas, it changed my coloring life completely , I was finally sure that I'm into this hobby for a long time. About Trolle - I don't know. Her books may be good for beginners, but it's just my personal preference that she one of my least favorite artists, I've never liked any of her books and I still struggle to do something decent when I try to color even simple page.

I wish I had wach this video before I bought my first book as the one I got a bit advanced for me I tried the first page and it looks like my grandsons had coloured it in but I was useing my grandson's sharpie pens

This is a really good list! Agreed, choosing the right first colouring book is really importaint. Back the I was choosing between Johanna Basford's Magical Forest and Lost Ocean. I dindn't know flip throughs existed and chose only fron the few images on Amazon. Thankfully I ended up getting Magical Forest, because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't still be colouring today had I gotten Lost Ocean.

OMG! Lost Ocean as a first book it's a nightmare! I got it when I already had Magical Forest and when I had only a set of Coloursoft pencils. I knew what to expect...more or less. But after couple of trying to color her tiniest things with Coloursoft, I put it on the shelf for ever.

I am a beginner, TFS! I like books that have different types of illustrations in them. I recently purchased Fairytales by Emelie Lidehall Oberg; Posh Inspired by Nature; and Fresh Ink Coloring Book. I haven't colored in them yet, and some may be more advanced, but I like their illustrations. Right now I am swatching out all my pencils so I can create color pallettes with them😊

perfect, perfect choice! I absolutely love 'Sagor och Sagner' by Emilie Oberg (pity that it's discontinued) and her Fairytales are so cute! Paper is also great. I'm sure that you will enjoy it!

I also purchased it among my first 5 books but I quickly realized that it's not kind of book which can keep me interested in this hobby for a long time... It's great that we have huge amount of various artists and books for each and every taste.

@@ColoringwithAlena that is very true - I think it was the first adult colouring book that I had ever seen - I have managed to acquire quite a few since!!

Excellent choices, Alena. And I agree about Kerby Rosanes' book. His book can be intimidating even for an experienced colorist myself especially when it comes to the double page but when you get to finished them, you will surely feel very satisfied & happy with results because it will turn out beautiful. I think maybe we can add Emilie Lidehall Oberg & Rita Berman's books into the list because it's pretty tame for beginners to colour, in my opinion. My first coloring book is Lost Ocean and it's pretty scary 😂.

The first book I bought was by Millie Marotta, Animal Kingdom. I really loved it and did a number of pages in it.

Thank you. That is an excellent list. There many wonderful subjects to choose from with Creative Haven books that someone new to coloring can find something they like. I have to say Im not crazy about the Myth book because so many of the pictures are scary. But I know many people like scary haha. Thx again, for your list.

Yes, Mythic is a little bit scary, but for me it's 'still acceptable level of scary'. I definitely wouldn't recommend to select as a first coloring gift 'Beauty of Horror' books, LOL - that I would call VERY scary

It’s a difficult task to recommend a book for a beginner because we soon forget but your suggestion of The Flower a year is excellent because it could be coloured simply or in a more complicated way. Personally I think Takes From the Witches Cottage would be great and any Maria Trolle book. I hope you are doing well. That it’s not too hot? We hit a new U.K. temperature record yesterday. It hit 40c in my garden. It was like trying to live in an oven. I’m no good when it’s really hot. My body is really tired today. Thankfully it’s much cooler. Are you still working? Is your job OK? I watch the news from the south/east and feel very angry at that horrible little Russian and his foul Lavrov.

Yes, Flower Year and Witch cottage are great for beginners and for more experienced, such a lovely books. I' was so happy when my 'Witch Cottages' arrived after 8 months!!! of traveling somewhere around the Earth... from Bookdepository, from November'21 to June'22, LOL Thank fully we have first much cooler week here and it's finally possible to breath and to move. Honestly, nothing is actually OK, but we are holding, and we intend to hold as much as possible and as needed. July was very difficult psychologically ,with almost everyday news about civilian victims and so much hatred from russians. Some days I just want to lay and to cry, some days I'm still able to do something productive. So... step by step.

Я початківець і якраз купила цю книгу Кербі Розаннеса, але малюю дешеву розмальовку з канцтоварів, без автора, очевидно, згенеровану комп'ютером. Звісно, дарувати краще щось якісне, але коли я вибирала сама, то ця мені підійшла можливістю тренуватися, пробувати і не жаліти за зіпсованим малюнком)

Мені здається, що зараз є дуже гарна нагода придбати українськи видання Кербі, і через їх не дуже велику ціну не боятися зіпсувати та розмальовувати і для покращення навичок, і для власного задоволення. Будемо сподіватися, що наші видавництва матимуть більше розмальовок за гарною ціною і від різноманітних авторів
