I've had my EX3 for about 6 weeks now and really like it. I wanted to add spinning to my treadmill workouts. I decided on the Echelon for several reasons. I was not about to pay $2500 for an exercise bike that I had to pay an additional $40 a month just to use. I didn't want to be forced into a subscription. I'm not into the "leaderboard" or doing live classes, so not having a subscription account works for me. If I want to add a subscription down the road, I could add the Echelon for $40 or Peloton app for $12 per month later on. Not a perfect match, but there are work arounds. I also chose the Ex3 particularly because I didn't want an attached tablet. To me that's a point of "failure" down the road. If the tablet dies, my bike dies. I can replace my own tablets. The Echelon does require you have an "account" to use the bike, but you don't have to pay for a monthly subscription. You just use their "freestyle" ride and do what you want. I've used their "free" subscription rides just to get a feel of the bike and routines, but I follow a couple "spinner instructors" on KZread for free. The bike is smooth, quiet and gives me the sweat drenching workout I was hoping for. Without the overhead (name) of the Peloton.

Those are all great reasons to choose Echelon over a Peloton. Totally agree about using your own tablet, less things to break. Every company is going the subscription route so I'm glad you were able to just get the Bike and use it without one.

I just purchased the Echelon EX3 bike. I agree that the subscription is pretty expensive however I use the app for the cadence and resistance and I use my Peleton $12 subscription for classes.

Pelaton has a $12 subscription? Sounds like you figured out a great solution

That's wonderful to hear. A lot of people can't do it without live classes so you're saving a ton of money!

so, without the subscription, what does the Echelon app provide you with for free?

I agree with the subscription piece to a certain extent. There are hundreds of KZread videos that you can watch too. I do it all the time. And like someone else said, you can do the peloton subscription as well. Just putting that out there for the budget conscious folks.

Agree w the comments Regarding Not having to buy the Echelon App. The EX3 is a great alternative to Peloton or other more expensive bikes that require a subscription.

Peloton is not doing well these days. I'm really interested to see how this affects Echelon. All I know is that people are not liking the subscription fees.

Your bike looks wobbly! Is it just your flooring, or your handle bars? Looking for reviews of this bike as I'm considering it vs a peloton!

It was probably the carpet. Let me know if I can help you make a decision. I also just reviewed the Bowflex VeloCore bike, that review will be coming up soon. It can lean left and right like a real bike. Definitely check it out too before you make a decision.

Chest monitors are by far the most accurate. You can actually connect chest monitors to your apple watch and it becomes even more accurate.

I agree, by being so close to the heart, chest monitors should be the most accurate. I haven't used one in years, should give them a try again.

Nice review, but think people are more likely to buy the less expensive Connect model.

I ordered the EX3 today, largely for the 13kg flywheel rather than the 7kg on the connect.

People needing a heart rate monitor....come on people. Get on bike, work hard, get in shape. You dont need a friggan monitor to tell you you're tired. Nonsense
