Optimization and Related rates makes calculus hell. Thanks for this! Really helpful compared to the text.

you are doing great work here man. I appreciate it so much!
Im one minute in and i already understand it better than my book or anything. thank you so much
Wondering why we wouldn't just measure the Norman window. This situation is so unrealistic.
Thank you, you kinda went a little speed racer at some times but overall it helped a lot
This really helped--thanks!
This is a great video, thanks for sharing!
Thank YOU!! saved my calc lab grade!
Thanks a lot!
Thank you!
Thanks for this, really helped out

Why did you use derivatives at minute 4.50 and what is the rule of the differentiation for this equation?
How do I do this without using derivatives? I'm not familiar with this type of problem.

it is a downward facing parabola, so you can find the maximum by finding the vertex. The vertex is calculated with -b/2a (which finds x) and then you plug that value back into the equation to find y. This will get you the same result as what he got in the video.
Why you change r^2 to x^2 in the area equation?

o lol this is kinda late but it's because x is the radius value
wait i had a question.. could someone explain to me the power rule he does(at 4:55) where he divides everything by x and then he multiplies the 2 by 2 because 2 was the exponent of 2x before he divided everything by x? sry, i know that was phrased very weirdly, but that was the best i could do

. . . That was literally Power Rule. Straight up. Afterwards, he is isolating x to one side to solve for it. So he doesn't divide anything by x. A few moments later, he divides both sides by what x has via factorization and then gets x.
I was able to do it before watching the video!! Im getting good at this.
thanks, it is so helpful

UsEP?
why is it 2x? and not just x

Because he set x equal to the radius of the semi circle. Since the semi circle's diameter is also equal to the width (they share the same side on the top), then 2x will give you the full width. The formula for finding the circumference of a semicircle is 2*pi*r, so he just chose to express the width as 2x.
