A Night at the Jai Alai

Спорт

The little known sport of Jai Alai boasts to be the fastest sport on the planet. The sport's novelty spread its way throughout Florida in the 1960′s but over time the lack of interest has slowly deteriorated. Today its small but devout fan base is holding on by a thread.

When my grandparents used to go on vacation to Florida, they talked about this strange game played with a scoop and a ball, and it was really exciting. That's because it was- at the time- the ONLY game in town. In Florida once upon a time, casinos were verboten, and there were no Marlins, Jaguars, Lightning, or Panthers. Unfortunately the Boston Irish mafia fucked shit up, casinos were legalized, and family-friendly pro sports made their way to FLA. Once Jai Alai was the swankiest spot, now the retired rummies wander its halls. What I'd give to dine four stars and watch the games!

Personally, I hope the Cesta Punta Pro Tour does so well in Spain & France that they look into expanding it to other countries. It's not eight team quinela games, but it's Jai-Alai and I, for one, actually enjoy the partidos more than quinela games. You only get to enjoy watching four players at a time instead of 16, but the competition is definitely better. I hope it becomes successful enough that they try to get it to catch on over here in the United States. I would love to be able to go back to the Orlando fronton and watch the best players in the world compete once again. Cesta Punta Pro Tour website: www.cestapunta-protour.fr/

I just spent the day inspecting the now all but abandoned Orlando Jai Alai, roaming every one of those rooms from this movie. It's a quite run down and lonely place, brimming with ghosts of the past. I'd give anything to have seen its heyday. I can't believe it's going to be gone soon- replaced by some more cookie cutter shitty apartments....

The players got greedy and when on strike when the sport was on life support. Union greed killed the sport in the USA.

nationalist818 explain why the players got greedy please. Why did the players go on strike?

@@joserraaja8033 The strike had nothing to do with the death of Jai Alai. It was the Florida Lottery that brought it to its knee's. The handles were going down right after the Lottery was introduced and that was years before the strike.

@Joserra Aja The strike had a lot to do with the players managers having a strong hold on the foriegn players. Pedro Elordi is a fine example of this Gestapo type of leadership.

Saludos
