Awesome! I'm a massive fan and supporter of the NWOTHM movement, glad it's getting coverage here on SoT because there are still MANY people who are unaware of it. People who love Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and say stuff like "it's a shame modern Metal sucks" NEED to hear these bands. There is still a lot of life left in old-school styles!

Credit must be given to all the underground festivals which promoted all these bands for so long, like Keep It True, Up The Hammers, Headbangers Open Air and many others, as well as Anderson Tiago with his NWOTHM Full Albums KZread channel, and also you in front of the Mofos group, and many other true independent fighters, labels, promoters, fanzines, and above all the fans who keep this flame burning! 🤘🏻⚔️🍻

Well said
I have found so many great retro hard-rock/metal bands on that NWOTHM channel! I'm really happy you're doing this series. My favorites so far in NWOTHM (and I hope you cover some of them) are: Tanith, High Spirits, Freeways, Mega Collossus, and Eternal Champion.
Pete and Rich talking together always reminds me of two dancers constantly stepping on each other’s toes. Even though they’ve obviously known each other a long time, they can’t read each other’s cues and constantly accidentally interrupt and talk over each other.😄
Tailgunner from the UK are one to watch out for
Owl Bear...they named the band after a D&D monster from the old school days. Nice! Will have to check them out! 💯
Wytch Hazel is my album of 2023. Gorgeous record.
Love this movement: they remember the vital importance of melody and drama. Megaton Sword, Eternal Champion, Visigoth, White Wizzard, Dark Forest, Satan's Hallow, Spellcaster...
@independenceltd.

Mandy Martillo from Satan's Hallow now sings with Midnight Dice and Fer De Lance, where she also plays acoustic. Unfortunately, with FDL she's woefully underused, providing backup vocals mainly. Not just one of the best new female voices, but ever.

Obsession is classic example of traditional heavy metal but they hit in 1982 on Metal Massacre. They followed up with three great records
Dark Forest are a band worth checking out it is my friends band got a classic metal feel and on the first album in 2009 had Phil Cope of witchfinder general giest stars
I've got a soft spot for this scene, I can get a little burnt out from all the extreme metal bands all the time, so I am glad there is a fresh crop of trad metal to get to.
The Night Eternal droped a fantastic album last year. It was AOTY for me
Megaton Sword from Switzerland are pretty solid too, and hailing from the same country are of course the lovely ladies from Burning Witches. Excepting their singer Laura who's Dutch but regardless, she's both beautiful and possessed of some formidable vocal prowess. 🎤
Looking forward to this! Hope Pete mentions RIOT CITY. If not, I just did! Go check em out!

Hey Pete and Rich, I heartily recommend Vulture's Vengeance from Italy! One of the best of the NWOTHM. Vocals are similar to Tim Baker, Hansi Kursch and Blackie Lawless, accompanied by killer musical chops and epic mystical and medieval-oriented songwriting. ⚔💀🧙♂🧙♀🏰 They sound like they're straight out of the '80s underground without trying too hard to sound that way, if that makes any sense.
Yes🤘 There are so many good NWOTHM albums coming out constantly, it is cool to have a special show for these bands 👍
Gatekeeper is absolutely awesome

I started watching this channel recently and just stumbled on this video now and I'm kind of blown away to you guys talking about Gatekeeper. I used to sing for that band and its really exciting to see them getting exposure like this! I know quite a few of the bands on the list personally so I'll be following this series for sure!
I was just mourning the end of It's All about the Fuzz, but this show has got me pretty excited. Always up for talk about new bands on the channel. This kind of stuff definitely has exploded in the last ten years or so. I prefer the first Gatekeeper album, myself, to this newer one. Not that the latter album is bed, but it feels a little safe or something. The singer is good but I liked JP on the first one. I admit I've still got to spend more time with it though.

Black Viper - Hellions of Fire, is easily my favorite NWOTHM release
Burning Witches is a perfect example. I urge everybody, watch the band's ""Black Widow"" official video and you will be kicked off your chair - imagine that every member of Judas Priest had a daughter and those girls formed a heavy metal band. That's Burning Witches, guys!
Awesome episode! Recommend checking out the new project of Boston power thrash legends Steel Assassin. The band is called Kingdom of Tyrants and the record is “Architects of Power.” Great riifs, catchy, and some epic arrangements on tracks like the Guilded Age inspired “Ghosts of Industry.”. I hear Saxon on the albums closer “Metal or Die” and early Maiden on “Unforgotten Souls” and “Daedulus”-really strong record released on Metal on Metal Records

Great show guys, and great concept for a show. There's been quite an explosion of these types of bands in the last 10 - 15 years. Wytch Hazel, Helm's Deep and Gate Keeper were all in my top 15 in 2023, and I'd also recommend The Night Eternal for a great mix of traditional metal and goth, a bit like In Solitude used to do. Also Legend had a great one last year, if you'd like to go more 70s proto-metal. I'll go listen to some Air Raid and OwlBear now 😊
Great idea for a series. Two of my recent favorites are Frenzy and Evil Invaders. The KZread channel “NWOTHM Full Albums” is a gold mine for this genre.

Loving this first episode. Already au fait with the brilliant Gatekeeper and Air Raid, and I have lined up Owl Bear and Helms Deep to listen to at work tonight. The Wytch Hazel album was great too, but its definitely the "odd one out" in this quintet, but i dont mean that as a negative, just that it's the least "METAL!" album on the episode if you see what I mean. Hope episode 2 isnt too far away!
Great Show, you picked a very rich field to plow. Loads of bands. So let me throw my hat Into the Ring. A very new band from England: Coltre. Their first EP was pure NWOBHM, the Debut from Februar this year "To watch with hands to touch with eyes" expands the influences some. Great Band very deservend of some exposure. Greetings from Germany
Listening to Gatekeeper right now. Pretty awesome!! Though the singer ultimately has his own unique delivery I also hear a bit of Geoff Tate & Jon Oliva in there. Pretty cool stuff gonna check out the others as well. Great to see Rich back on SOT!!
Great show! It's worth mentioning that Wytch Hazel are playing Saturday at Hell's Heroes VI in Houston, along with Nite Demon, Cauchemar, Cauldron, Nite, Eternal Champion, Early Moods, Blood Star, Traveler and Sumerlands along with legends like Candlemass, Sodom, Tank, Cirith Ungol, Queensryche and more. Nice Haunt shirt, they played last year, as well as Christian Mistress, Hällas, Razor, Skull Fist, Riot City, Gatekeeper, Freeways, Spell, and Tower, and there were at least three Sea of Tranquility folks there. A recent favorite is Mean Mistreater from Austin. Air Raid and Helms Deep were high on my list last year, as well as Sorcerer, Legendry, Kerrigan and at the top, Spirit Adrift.

To accompany the two Brazilian bands up there, Creatures and Nightwölf, I would also recommend Chromeskull, one of the best releases in 2023. And if I can give myself a plug, I also have a traditional metal project that just came out last October and has three singles released already, called Paranoia Church. It features Fabio Alessandrini on drums (Annihilator; currently touring with Enforcer). Even though we lean more towards a Roy Z kind of production versus what most of the NWOTHM bands have been doing (with the exception of the mentioned Nightwölf).
