They turned a blind eye to what was right in front of them, she was happier and healthier alone in her falling down shack with no running water and a doorless outhouse than she is in this new place with all the amenities and a manipulative, exploitative, can't-stop-talking-about-himself, abusive grandson. She became quiet and uncomfortable when her grandson entered the room, and increasingly uncomfortable each time he pressed her to say it was just great that he was there. He (and his girlfriend) should NOT be there, and shame on her daughter (the grandson's mother) for aiding and abetting the situation.

She, the daughter turned to those men for help...she was doing g something at least and old people don't really like hearing what the kids have to say about their situations to begin with. It usually takes outside help most of the time unfortunately. Dealt with plenty of people like that.

I caught myself holding back tears when I first saw Virgie. She was so happy to see the preacher and others. Then I saw her grandson… he started talking and was so concerned about what was possibly said about him. He was volunteering so much unsolicited information and his explanations were endless. Virgie’s demeanor changed and she became silent. She looked scared. That broke my heart. Her grandson was locked up for beating her TWICE. He abused poor Virgie. An elderly lady. That’s right up there with pedophiles in my book. I am a survivor of multiple abuses and I can easily sense how horrible he was/is. Rest In Peace dear Virgie.

Watching this with deep sadness. When Virgie moved into her new home, she was so happy and glowing. Now with this visit, she looks very distracted, frightened and sad. She barely spoke to her visitors. Her grandson has brought bad Karma into Virgie's life..her beautiful yard and porch have been destroyed by her Grandson...what a shame. I pray that the Lord will keep Virgie safe and gives her the happiness that she deserves.

Exactly. It's hard to believe that a country like ours lets this happen. We'd rather take care of illegals and refugees. Really? A lot of people especially the elderly don't or won't take advantage of what little is available to them because they were raised to be independent and to refuse charity. Also, the paperwork is so full of red tape that anyone especially the elderly find it difficult and beyond their ability to unravel gov't bureaucracy. What really should happen is that government agencies should hire people to actually go out and visit these folks and get them the resources they need. Policy wonks and politicians claim there is no money? Try scaling back the ridiculous pay and instead of the Washington and the local gov't elite having a damn party make them do they're job and hold them accountable.

In a small Texas town, a small Baptist church found out a lady was living in a chicken coop. Her house burned down and she didn't have insurance. I've read some of the comments here villifying the preacher because of this video. This is 2018, the age of social media. It's just my opinion, but this video wasn't made to say look at me, look at what I have done! It was made to say, please help me help her. I cannot do this by myself. As much as people talk the talk, not many walk the walk. He made a plea for help, and through the caring of others, got this lady a decent place to live. How many in this country are in the same situation? How many are homeless? As I said, this preacher couldn't do it all by himself, so he asked for help. He wasn't asking for a million dollar home to be built. We can truly end homelessness in this country if people stop chasing the dollar. Look at rents in Seattle etc. People can't afford to live where they work. Before anyone criticizes this man, walk in his shoes.

I agree 100%! And that is not easy for me to say, I am not christian and have never liked the need for recognition that often comes with religon in general. However, this man seems to me to have not one bit of this vested in himself. He is respectful of her, kind to her, and tbh...he knows what its like. You can tell he isnt scared of poverty. He isnt repulsed, but he truly wants better for her.

The preacher means well, but this whole project was a wasted effort. She belonged in a nursing home where she could have been properly cared for and could have had companionship. Either that or some of the donated money should have been used to hire a woman to come in 2 hours a day to help her. It's foolish to make plans for a frail 85 year old woman to live alone when it's clear she can't take proper care of herself. She was clearly afraid of the grandson. Self-preservation would keep her from saying anything while they were visiting and filming her. What was going to happen after they left? No wonder this area has such a reputation.

  • @Tara-sf7uu

@@TubeTorte I disagree.... I worked in geriatrics for years and she may have need of an in home service, but a nursing home would quickly kill her. Women like her dont thrive when their freedoms are taken away. Ive seen many decline and wither away within weeks of being forced away from their homes no matter how destitue they were. I would say she needed someone to come regulaly, and someone to take that grandson out back and teach him something about bein a man. Ppl from her generation have this ingrained sense of self reliance no matter how poor they are, and to take that is literally taking away the thing that gives them dignity

I'm a caretaker and I've seen this type of relationship, a younger family member taking advantage of their elderly, too many times. he looks to be an addict, of some sort, which means he's dramatic and unpredictable. she looks a little exhausted from all the drama and the non-stop talking about himself. plus, where was all his "help" when she didn't have anything? it shows that he's only using her, probably sticking around to inherit the home, by pretending to be the only one she has. it's all very sad.

Lot times the old mtn ppl won't stay with family, pride, fear that they'll lose their own place. Maybe the daughter and her family argue alot or drink etc, and this bothers them and gets on they're nerves or scares them. They'd rather live in a run down place than put up with a house full of ppl fussing and no telling what else. And she probably don't want to know what they do in case the law ask. I'd say she wouldn't go stay there. Them old mtn ppl have alot of pride despite what others think. Land and a home is very important to them and lot of times it's sentimental to them. They're afraid if they can't live in they're own home the gov't will put them in a nursing home and to them that's the worse that can happen.it frowned upon if you put ur elderly in a nursing home.

I worked with social services and there's a thin line with aggressive personalities like him. He was on the defensive when they visited and I have found that its sometimes best to not engage people like him in an argument. So far as everyone knew, he hadn't repeated the violence and if the pastor had waded in accusing him, he could have just waited until they left and then taken his anger out on his grandma. I think the pastor did exactly what he should have. ..let sleeping dogs lie...its very true in abuse cases. Of course if there had been any complaints or the lady was acting like she was under duress I am sure the pastor would have acted accordingly.

I was so touched how the pastor responded to any negativity! When something was said about the cat, his response was being by yourself at 85 im sure the couple of cats and dogs bought her alot of comfort and give her someone to talk too !! 😇 Also a comment toward the end about the grandson! The pastors response was everybodys families have problems. I cant judge theres until i take care of my own! I love it! This is a true Christian! This pastor has a amazing heart! God bless him and keep him and continue to allow him to do such good work! Thank you sir! Im so glad the last of her days she was given a good warm, dry, clean place to lay her sweet head ! I noticed that too Melanie, that was great. There were a couple more that he did too.... notice he never talked badly of her old house either. He just said said it was a pole barn construction, it wouldn't be fixable unfortunately because they didn't design it with studs. He was smart enough to know that even thought it was a hell hole it was her only possession in the world. There was an interesting part where after she talked about the coal and not calling the cops, he started to say "Well and when you're here by yourself i'd be afraid to let anybody know you were here" and the camera guy started a different conversation. When he saw the car parts all over the yard, instead of complaining he said "Here in Appalachia a used car is a good car if you can fix it". Just a great human being, very inspirational guy.

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of people saying the poor shouldn't have pets (tho I abhor the term 'pet', my cats are my family...the only family I've got). In fact there should be social welfare programs to assist people who adopt rescue animals as ESAs / companions. It's often the only joy, affection & interaction a person has in life. And by poor, depressed, disabled and/or isolated people adopting pets, they are also helping to give that animal a home when it might otherwise be killed.

Will not try to publicly shame and expose but rather will Teach the gospel of repentance and that Jesus will forgive and cleanse from sin. He is the kind of example of a Christian that Jesus asked of us. Christ died on the cross for our sins because He loved us so much. He paid for all our sins giving His life in place of our sins. He paid our debt in full What greater love is there than this? . All that God asks of us is that we put our faith in Jesus and ask for forgiveness and repenting of our sins. The fruit of our salvation is exactly what you see here where a true Christian man, the pastor, did great things with total humility and kindness. He IS a true man of the Lord.
