When I say “enemies to lovers” I want them to HATE each other. If I want them to just not get along I would say “rivals to lovers”. It’s a subtle but important difference.

Ok, but Hating =/= wanting to murder. In fact, I'd classify that as a more shallow hatred. Deeper, bone deep hatred goes beyond murder.

I like this, because some of the things I would have classed as enemies to lovers, others classes as rivals to lovers because they didn't try to kill each other, but imo, rivals need to be competing for something. Haters to Lovers hits the nail on the head for what I like. Like the movie Leap Year, they weren't competing for anything, but boy they didn't like each other at the start lol

im in the process of writing an enemies to lovers book and its about a witch and a witch hunter,, theyre definitely trying to kill eachother currently but by the end? oh boy. ive got the most beautiful story for them planned and ive never enjoyed writing something as much as i do this.

I fully believe you can’t have enemies to lovers in contemporary. You can have rivals to lovers or even “people who just don’t like each other” to lovers. But enemies to lovers? Nah

I'm actually working on an enemies to lovers story, (and yes they try to kill each other!), and it's not mob/mafia related. It's more of a wild western but in modern day type thing. There is criminal stuff, and it centers around rodeo and such.

I think you can. War is still a thing. “You betrayed me in the one of the worst ways possible” I read a 3 part romance where the guy cheated at the end of book one and it took an entire book for her to even speak to him again. He’s redeemable tho, his mom just passed, he was drugged out of his mind and the girl he used to hook up with took advantage of that. It was assault-y but he did physically go with her and participated, and said “i needed this” at the end. He did a massive grovel tho. And she didn’t take him back straight after that. We love a self assertive queen. The book series is called “save me” and it’s pretty mild spice- they do it twice on page

Enemies to Lovers became my favourite trope when it was revealed by Future Trunks that his parents were Bulma and Vegeta 😂. I’ve been hooked ever since. I first saw that when I was 9, which was 26 years ago 😂

the book could've easily been a contempory enemies-to-lovers. the difference between enemies to lovers and rivals to lovers is deeper than just fantasy vs contempory

Rivals to lovers and enemies to lovers are very different from each other and I simply cry when they say disliking eachother is enemies to lovers

One that isnt violent but is cruel is enemies to lovers where they try to destroy their lives but let them live Besides then they already like them alive at least. They just want them to wish they are dead

So there's this book that technically falls into all the thins you said, but thy were never really enemies to begin with, they were just objectively enemies that were pushed to fight each other due to the war, but the book I'm talking about is this is how you lose the time war, and you should read it if you haven't already

If they don't try to kill each other at least twice, it is not an enemies to lovers book. Cardan and Jude are the top teir enemies to lovers

just wanted to say on this, there's a good series, Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, and although first book doesn't have that much of enemies to lovers but i promise the second book develops more on that (Bloodmarked) and yes he did try to unalive her at one point seriously and idk if youre gonna see this comment or not but yeah do give it a try i wpuld love to hear your thoughts on that series (its my absolute fav!!)

In Daindreth's Assassin only one tries to kill the other, and honestly that other is pretty chill about it and even understands their assassination attempt. So that means its not Enemies to Lovers.
