This is the reason why the steam deck will continue to be the best handheld for the foreseeable future, even though it may be beaten in power, the support from different brands and the community will NEVER happen for other handhelds and make the steam deck a very good choice for most people

I agree. Concerning the Steam Deck, you should be able to take the chance to buy it. I understand that 'nervous' feeling as I just took the dive to acquire a Retroid Pocket 3+ knowing that in a few months, a manufacturer is possibly going to supersede that device. I know personally that the device will satisfy the need that I wanted. I have been waiting for 'that device' for approximately a year.

Recently received my 256GB model steam deck, and honestly, even though it isn’t nearly as powerful as my main rig, it has pretty much replaced it. It feels good to the hands and is a blast to use. I think the steam deck will be supported by valve for at least the next 5 years, and even when valve decides to abandon it as they do with nearly everything, the community will do the work for them, so if support or use for it is a concern for you, don’t worry, the community will handle it once valve doesn’t.

It seems that they don't have any plans to replace it in the immediate future, as they've said that keeping a large group of gamers locked at a certain performance threshold is really useful for game development, etc. They might pull a Nintendo and have an OLED refresh, but the guts will likely stay largely the same: i think you're safe 🙂

I thought the same for a while and waited. I have had my steamdeck now for a month and use it daily. I am really surprised at what it can run and the amounts of unristrickted tinkering you can do with it. Even as a project for a techlover, it's worth it. Saying that, maybe in a year a better one will come out. But even then, the value it brings is huge! I always wanted to play games but it's a hassle to sit behind my rig because it reminds me of work. So now I can easily grab it, play games, take it to a friends house, chill behind the TV and so on. It changed how I see the coming future. Normally I would not take the train and grap the car but now I do. Playing your favourite game while going to work made my day so much better. Any how, that is how I think about it, there is not really a losing situation here. Waiting and get (probably) thinner divice or going for it since it's a great hobby and tool for a tech lover. I even lost my laptop charger on eday and used the steamdeck to work in the cloud, that was a golden moment for me.

@@m.pixelated It's a bit easier to swallow that pill when it's a $100-200 device rather than a $400-650 one. However I jumped on a 512gb Steam Deck and don't regret doing so and I doubt it will be replaced/updated by valve in any significant way in the next 2 years or so. They had to put a lot of time, R&D and built relationships with partners/vendors to source what they've put together at the price point they have. Any major update to that will take time. I could only see small things like perhaps an OLED screen and/or battery life upgrade in any sort of near term.

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents - been using my killswitch since it came out, and the protection it offers in a bag is great. It's rock solid and saves on space a full case would take up. I wouldn't worry too much about throwing that in a bag

Omg dude I thought I was going crazy being the only person who doesn't want to put the deck in a case in a case IN a case (backpack)! Like what explosive are you protecting the deck from? The Killswitch and maybe even the Jsaux case are MORE than enough to protect the Deck if it's secure and not sliding inside a backpack. I don't want to lug around three cases.

To top it off the deck isn't even that expensive, the whole reason it's so popular is that it's a pretty cheap product for what you get. Most phones nowadays are easily over 2-3 times the price a deck and yet no one is putting a case inside a case for their phones, and everyone seems to be getting by just fine I've had no issues with just the case and cover in my bag, and gives me much more space for other things like a controller or headphones

@Dre2timezz Well from the video, it looks like the quality of the killswitch is better overall, but the jsaux has the extra features since it's modular. Regardless, it looks like the travel cover is kind of a useless concept. I was interested in it because I wanted something I can slip in and out of my bag on the subway. However, unless you have some sort of tight pouch you can slip the deck into. It's pointless. It's better to use the full case, even if you have to zip the zipper everything you take/put back the deck

Pretty decent case, if I didn't already have a TPU sleeve with a kickstand I added to it, I'd consider this instead. One thing I wish they would include in these is storage slots for micro SD cards. I'm sure they could mold those in fairly easily. I ended up just using 3M tape to stick a micro SD to full-sized SD card adapter to the back of my sleeve so I can stick my Windows 11 boot SD in it.

The only reason I don't like the transparent plastic backs, for the same reason I hate transparent phone cases, is that they turn yellow over time and require cleaning more often. This is probably by design to work with their other transparent shells, which is fine. I have their original case and it's still in good condition. Besides being modular, my favorite addition is the top having button covers vs the old model being too concave to press. Can't wait to see what 3D printed add-ons people come up with.

So you're telling me that Jsaux made a transparent shell that has a heat dissipation plate, but did not make a modcase with a hole to accomodate for their own shell? 😅

I ordered the JSAUX Mod case W/HUB Kit.. and also the Killswitch.. since you have both, does the Killswitch cover work with the JSAUX Mod back case? I like the. Killswitch front, but really love the back of the JSAUX, especially since the HUB is basically the dock.

The problem with the accessory strap is that most things mounted in it will block the vent on the back of the Deck.

Taki, thanks for the review and quick comparison to Killswitch. I'm looking at both of them and was wondering which one weighs less. Have you ever weighed both cases without any of the accessories on them (kickstand, rubber strap, front covers, etc.)?

How heavy is it? I had a case where it was too heavy, switched it with another one that is lighter and it made all the difference. I was hoping the weight is something more compareable to a light one (this is only without attachments ofcourse)

I would had like to see if performance increased after using the fan . I saw that the fps were 42 before the fan but the game was actually running and after the fan it was at 60 fps but that was the pause menu so we couldn't tell if any gains were had. 😢

Yeah it's a flaw to even feature the fan if not showing what effect it has. Ironically, the case doesn't seem to take advantage of the thermal pad from the transparent backplate whatsoever. You'd think it would since they're both made by the same company.

It would depend how he had it during the pause. Before it was at 40 at 99% CPU. The after showed it at 60 fps at 70% cpu. If he didn't change any fps settings that can be huge for demanding games. It would increase ur battery life and u could pull more from the system without it getting sluggish due to temps

I have the killswitch case and I always throw in my bag the way it is, without any extra cases or bags. It does the job really well and I have no complaints besides being a little difficult to put it in and take it out, but after a while you get the hang of it. If it's not used for this purpose, I say it would be useless. The same for this jsaux case.
