The first time I saw this, I laughed so hard that I nearly suffocated. It was one of the funniest things I had ever seen. My chest was killing me. Then he started reaching for the other hat. I honestly thought I would die.

Yes they did beginning in 1857 by Joseph Gayetty, it just wasn't in rolls. The "Medicated Paper" came in packages of flat sheets. Be careful though, the cheaper the paper the more splinters it had. It was also common to just use pages from a book or catalog, usually Sears Roebuck.

In my opinion, this scene is right on par with the toilet scene Dumb & Dumber, LOL

Like others have said the way he tries to get that second guy´s hat is so funny, the first one didn´t know what would happen to it but the second one knew and keeps slapping his hand away until Foy (Neil Patrick Harris) just grabs it so funny.

2:26 I love how he smacks his face with the hat for repeatedly deflecting his reach for it.

As I remember, this was a painfully funny movie.... great, stupid, really-really funny, really well made movie. I loved it.

Neil Patrick Harris is a genius. Watched this a half-dozen times just to note each facial reflection throughout the entire scene. If you think otherwise, watch the video without sound and realize he performed this without the special effects.
