A MASSIVE International book festival, lots of history and time to relax.

Clunes, and its book festival is amazing. I recommend both if you ever get a chance to visit Victoria.

Now I want to move to Clunes, buy that fixer upper and work in one of their bookshops! What a lovely place, thank you for taking us Cheryl! I've visited 3 book towns, one in Belgium and one in the south of France with both mainly French books which was a frustration because I don't have any French! And we have one here in Holland as well, which has mainly Dutch books and of course I have to be different by reading only in English 😂 How fun to see Arthur and your other dog too, what's his name? They are gorgeous 😍 Be honest, were you able to resist buying books?? 🧐 The houses over there are so lovely, and I wanted to spend more time by that creek with the old bridge. You can tell it gets hot because all the grass is brown! Dorothea MacKellar has been added to my wish list 😁Thank you for a lovely video Cheryl, much appreciated! 💕

Hello Anne, Clunes is a delightful town, full of history and lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. Our weather is certainly hot and dry here throughout Summer and Autumn, but we cope! Happy to read that you enjoy watching the town walks and history. We appreciate that you enjoy discovering our authors too! We shall talk again soon, Keep watching as there are so many more and varied towns to discover. Happy reading and take care until next time. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing this. I am fortunate enough to have a little farm not too far from Clunes. Years ago, and after a long and enjoyable talk with one bookstore vendors in the town, I very seriously contemplated buying her store which she wanted to sell to a booklover like myself. It was a very romantic idea which I thought about for weeks (and still do), but reality won the day and I realised that I was not yet ready for such a venture. Gosh, nice idea though. Clunes is a lovely place to visit, and I can highly recommend an early morning drive from there towards Newstead - be careful of Kangaroos but the views are simply stunning.

Thank you for sharing your experience @richardsilver98. What a wonderful, romantic and heart-stopping experience that would have been. I am slightly envious! Clunes is a wonderful town, with much to see and do. An over-night stay will be on the cards in the future, I think. Thank you so much for watching and joining the channel. I hope the current and future videos bring you joy or information or just a jolly good relax. Happy reading and stay tuned! Cheers.

Gold was first discovered on the river in Warrandyte ...and there is a stone memorial and plaque from the Government of the time ...right next to the river...just a short walk from town...But the people of clunes will always say otherwise !!!

Hello @romemancer7905. Thank you for joining the channel and taking the time to watch and comment. According to the Victorian Gold Mining Historical museum, there are many 'firsts' in the claims of discovery and mining of gold in Victoria. According to my research ,gold was first discovered near Clunes by James Edward in 1850, and officially registered, although it is believed Indigenous and one European settler may have discovered it in the area, earlier than this but it was never officially registered. However, the first area to receive a license to mine gold was in Warrandyte after gold was discovered there in 1851. Travelling around Victoria, I have noted many 'firsts' in not only gold discovery, but many other aspects as well. I guess with Australia newly colonised and with limited communications , there are bound to be holes and missing links in records of the time. It is all extremely interesting though. Thanks again for watching. Happy reading and safe travels ABT
