@@Phili2012 It must have been frustrating for the passengers on the southwest. The plane taxis out to the runway then sits there before taxiing back to the gate. I had the misfortune to be on a morning flight, the plane would taxi out from the gate then once on the taxiways they would turn around and go back to the gate. Twice we went to the runway and then turned off and returned to the gate. There were no explanations, we were just sitting in a hot plane. When we finally took off, they offered us breakfast for lunch. we did get five sets of Northwest Orient eating utensils knife, fork and spoon.

Will be a bit of a wait but assuming nothing's wrong, we'll be up in the air in about an hour" Calm, direct, enough information to make them laugh and enough information to convey your sense of safety first.

martin theiss when did I ever say they didn't need one? It was in quotes because it isn't a true fire extinguisher, it is more like a fire sprinkler system for the lack of a better analogy. The guy was arrested as well. If that is set off, the plane is instantly out of service, and they have to inspect everything.

I watched the video, and it didn't look like a fire to me. The flames shooting out were from the combustion. That was a compressor stall. It looks scary, but it is generally not considered an emergency unless it keeps happening (like in the video). It usually either goes away on it's own or you throttle back for a minute, it clears, and then you resume normal flying. To be honest, it normally doesn't even cause any damage to the engine

its a bit disconcerting that their radios seem to cut out alot and can’t hear people talking clear as day sometimes, I don’t know if people are just distracted, I’ve noticed this alot, you’d think there would be better quality radios by now especially for something thats the difference between massive airliners going to the wrong place or even crashing if things go wrong.

An aircraft is not a catering truck (nor would be using the right roadway). Southwest has nice slogans on them. Saw one on the ground at KSMF. If you want to go anywhere exotic there should be a nice terminal away from the passenger terminals. Great stuff over there (cargo loaders).
