A Low Carb Diet Plan that reduces 93% of PreDiabetes (Easy) | Jason Fung

Type 2 diabetes is a reversible disease through diet. The American Diabetes Association science review on nutrition states that low carb diets have the most evidence for managing type 2 diabetes. Dr Jason Fung reviews the specific meal plan used in studies to reverse type 2 diabetes in almost half of patients. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

I'm sure this works if you're over weight, which all information about diabetes is about. But what if your under weight? Just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The problem is I'm underweight and need to gain weight, which is hard without carbs. So How can I gain the 16kg of muscle mass I need to regain a healthy bmi and still reverse the disease?

Dear Doctor's Berry & Fung, I am a 74 year old obese man who had Type 2 diabetes for just over 25 years, I was taking Metformin for 15 years then it was upped Metformin+ Gliclazide for the last 10 years.. Two years ago I saw your video about reversing Diabetes with a low carb diet. I went on a less than 75 grams of carbs a day ( not keto ) ate more vegetables & proteins and went from 344 pounds to 250 pounds in 1 year, my A1c went from 7.5 to 5.1, and I tracked my fasting glucose every day and averaged 85... I feel 100% better, mind clearer, skin tags disappeared ,sleep better and feel like I am 40 years old again.. I believe my life has been saved by you two and I feel I could live to be at least 100 years young... I also feel it is not a " diet " but a change of life eating pattern one has to adapt to.. Again , thank you for showing me the way to live a happy, healthy life...Rick...

Hi Tina, Do you think your diabetes is under controlled or completely reversed? I've been watching a lot of Dr. Fung's video where he says diabetes is an overflow of sugar into the bloodstream when your fat cells don't want it. Since you lost 52lbs, does that mean you can eat the carbs again as long as you are not gaining weight because the fat cells are now taking in the sugar again or am I wrong? I feel that your diabetes is fully under controlled and not reversed because reversal to me means you are insulin sensitive and the bad carbs you eat won't spike your blood sugar into diabetic range if you truly reversed diabetes. I know what your thinking, yes you have "reversed" diabetes according to some technical measurements, but not like someone whose insulin sensitive where whatever they ate gets taken care of almost immediately. Just wondering what you think. Thanks.

Both strategies work to reverse diabetes, however the science points to better health outcomes and longevity when consuming whole plant foods low in fat. I knew about fasting for a long time....it truly helps, up to a point....but here's one thing nobody is talking about which in my case was getting worse every time I visited my doctor.....STRESS!! It happened about a year ago.....I pretty much was in control of my type 2 diabetes before.....heck my doctor even rescheduled my visits from every 3 months to every 6 months, and things started to work for me.....with my blood sugar level (A1C) under 7 I thought that I felt confident that I turned the corner....and then out of nowhere my blood sugar level started to climb back up again....from 6.9 to 7.5 and then 8.5 and now just a few days ago to 9.5.......so what went wrong? I remember that the only thing I changed was my working schedule.....I started to work night shifts, and after work I was really tired.......fell into my bed as soon possible, but after about 3-4 hrs sleep during the day, I couldn't sleep no more....first I didn't noticed but as time went by I got used to it for sleeping just the bare minimum, until my blood sugar level went through the roof....on my last visit to my doctor we talked about it. and I told my doctor about my sleeping problem.....I was advised to go and take some sleeping pills and take a good sleep......I did all that and to my astonishment over a 9 hrs sleep my blood sugar level went from 280 to 113....IN NINE HRS OF SLEEP! To my story short....I'm taking one over the counter sleeping pill before bed time.....I'm sleeping good and my blood sugar level is now between 113 and 150...I know this is not edged in stone, but its a start to get back to normal level.....nobody i talking about the harmful effect of sleep deprivation.....and no medication has any effect if the blood sugar level goes through the roof...and if you have similar problems maybe a good sleeping pill can really do magic...

If you are on meds that raise insulin or on insulin you need a doctor's supervision to try this. No grains,no root vegetables (high starch ones) I eat cheese for my dairy instead of milk. Many cheeses don't have lactose( dairy sugar) I am currently at an A1C average of 5.8. I don't take any diabetic medications anymore. I test my blood glucose in the morning and 1 hour after every meal. My daily average is usually around 120. Very rarely over 130.

I’m so glad I found your work and videos when I got my diagnosis. I gained 50 lbs right after the pandemic and knew I was in for some trouble. When I realised how much I gained, I started Intermittent Fasting ( while still eating largely the same) and lost about 10 pounds but was stuck there). I continued doing light cardio each week but wasn’t changing my diet and of course wasn’t seeing much change until I got the diagnosis. I reversed type 2 diabetes in 2 months. I was diagnosed with an A1C of 6.5 and a fasted blood sugar of 138. My doc immediately put me on metformin. I decided to do the 16:8 intermittent fasting method and eventually the OMAD (one meal a day) and MOST importantly I did a low carb diet. I restricted my carbohydrate intake to less 70gms of carbs. I started to track my fasted blood sugar daily. My fasted blood sugar went from 138 to 87. On the off chance that I've missed a dose, the next fasted result has consistently been below 90. I've lost 30 lbs in 2 months. I'm excited to do my 3 month follow up test. The goal is to be off metformin. All the carbohydrates might take 2 to 6 months.

It's crazy how many items have high fructose corn syrup in them! I went through the entire snack aisle and bread/crackers aisle and almost all of items had this ingredient in them. They even put fructose in the Emer-Gen C packets and this is supposed to be healthy(no it isn't). Once I found out that fructose goes directly to the liver and is often converted to fat which can lead to a fatty liver, I cut out all candy and items with fructose and high fructose corn syrup. It took a few days for my energy levels to pick back up but I feel better than ever!

As a reformed type 2 diabetic who is not practising ketosis, I would say it a little differently, eliminate all processed foods, which are a mixture of processed seed oils, refined glucose, sugar and chemicals. They come pre-packaged at the supermarket. Moderate amounts of fruit which contain fructose are OK, but that same fruit juiced is just as bad as processed food, which is what you turn it into by juicing. Non-starchy vegetables and salads are fine, the more the better. The other thing to understand is that there has been a massive change by American cardiologists towards saturated fat which is no longer considered dangerous to health as of August 2020, don't believe me? See: www.onlinejacc.org/content/76/7/844 "Abstract The recommendation to limit dietary saturated fatty acid (SFA) intake has persisted despite mounting evidence to the contrary. Most recent meta-analyses of randomized trials and observational studies found no beneficial effects of reducing SFA intake on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and total mortality, and instead found protective effects against stroke. Although SFAs increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, in most individuals, this is not due to increasing levels of small, dense LDL particles, but rather larger LDL particles, which are much less strongly related to CVD risk. It is also apparent that the health effects of foods cannot be predicted by their content in any nutrient group without considering the overall macronutrient distribution. Whole-fat dairy, unprocessed meat, and dark chocolate are SFA-rich foods with a complex matrix that are not associated with increased risk of CVD. The totality of available evidence does not support further limiting the intake of such foods." Processed seed oils, i.e. the polyunsaturated oils that were supposed to be good for us instead of traditional hard / saturated fats, introduced into the human diet by Crisco in 1912, are increasingly considered a major part of the problem, and surprise surprise, are entirely processed notwithstanding the efforts by manufacturers to promote as vegetable oils.

I started Intermittent fasting and a low carb diet on October 1st because my blood glucose was 151 and my blood pressure could not be controlled by medications and was 190/100. I lost 17 pounds in 25 days and my blood glucose dropped to 135 and my bp dropped to 155/75. I have a ways to go but I know it works!

I am in the midst of dealing with a pre diabetes condition and have had some success over the last two months. The straw that broke the camel's back in my situation was the over consumption of fruit in the last year or so. With the already poor diet, high in carbs, the routine consumption of raisins, apples, melons etc as "healthy" foods in place of cake and cookies did nothing but push my glucose higher and add to a climbing Hgba1c over 8 years. I now refer to the sugar in fruit as Fuc_tose as Dr. Fung pronounces it, as that is what really screwed me up, but thankfully was a wake up call to alter my diet.

Been going on low carb diet for more than a year now. my HBA1C is almost normal ranging from 6. 4 to 6.5. I seldom eat brown rice and if I do its only about 1/4 cup. totally no breads and snacks. My doctor said its time to stop taking my diabetic meds as long as I can maintain my low carb diet. thank you Dr. Jason Fung.

I am prediabetic. After many years listening to many health teachers who teach differently to the point i do not know whom to listen to, i decide to listen to my body. I have animal protein ( enough, not too much for fear of saturated fat), and good fat at evety meals to keep my blood sugar stable. Meat, fish , eggs already have fat. So, don't worry about fat. I cut down on carbohydrates. Everything doctor Fung said is correct. When we have protein and fat at each meal, we are satiated, we do not snack, hence, we do not eat sweet and carbs. Beans do not work for me . Only fish, meat, eggs ( animal protein) work. I only eat protein at breakfast and lunch. I eat vegetables only at dinner, or i do not eat dinner at all. I feel good with this plan of dr Fung. Do not skip breakfast. Eat breakfast within 2 hours waking up. It is good for your heart and your blood sugar.
