A Love Affair - Cary Grant and Randolph Scott

Cary Grant's 'friendship' with the devastatingly handsome Randolph Scott was remarkably open and fairly candid in the dangerously oppressed 1930s.There were several photo shoots for the fan magazines of the two 'merry bachelors,' who for several years shared a beach house in Santa Monica, as well as a mansion in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, which was commonly referred to in the press as 'Bachelor Hall,' both before, during, and after their seven marriages to women they had seven between them. The photos used in this video, are just a few of the many that exist, where it so perfectly clear that they were much more than just 'roommates.' It's obvious that they shared a great love and were just about the most physically gorgeous couple in Hollywood history." Produced by Mauricio Gerson and Jimmy Baker.

@bojack...Fair enough. But explain to me what exactly is the sanction against it becoming sexual? I'm of the belief that even a hetero can consummate a same gender relationship at least ONCE during his lifetime. Only once. It might be the case that the partners in "Brokeback Mountain" shared themselves as they never did with any other. I suspect the relationship between Grant and Scott was quite profound.

@Harold Potsdamer Hi! Let's not focus so much on the sexual, Harold. Those days soon come to a close. Ever heard of prostate cancer? Or other ailments that bring to a close those romps in the hay? No, Harold, just let it be called love. You must be young which might explain away your puzzling question. Again, just let it be love. And I've heard it said that friends are increasingly becoming accepting. Have a good day.

This story floats to the surface every so often and since both men have been dead for many years I can't imagine why it still manages to be repeated. In the first place who the hell cares? There is no one to refute it and the fact that Grant late in life fathered a daughter seems to be overlooked. Scott is little more than a footnote in Hollywood history. Grant of course is in a different category altogether. His movies--especially those that Hitchcock made and shows on TV frequently and enjoy a high reputation and will likely continue to do so.

Lol, they did not live hidden lives . The fact that they were both good friends was widely publicised at the time, take a look at all the publicity photos around the house that they shared. Now do you consider it likely that `Hollywood bosses would have allowed the pictures to be published if there was any inclination that they were more than friends? The notion that they were lovers has been repeatedly debunked- there is no evidence that either man was gay or bisexual-just salacious gossip. Randolph Scott married twice, with a second marriage lasting 33 years, he had adopted children. Cary `Grant was married 5 times and had one child- both his ex spouse and widow are still living and have rubbished gossip on his sexuality as has his daughter. There is in fact substantial evidence that Cary Grant’s sexual preference was for women.

Didn't you notice Hitchcock's "formula" in Grace Kelly, Martha Hayer, Tippi Heddren? Give me a break. I even tired of seeing an always teary eyed Ingrid Bergman on the big screen. They have both passed on from this world and are not here to defend their privacy. It's up to us to follow through with their wishes out of respect. Let them be remembered for their wonderful films they left us, not for these rumors. I believe they were straight. Randolph Scott had a long lasting marriage and a good family life before his death. Cary Grant wasn't so lucky in love, but he was blessed with a wonderful daughter, and his final marriage was a success. Whatever their private lives were, it's none of our business. in those golden hollywood years everything seemed more innocent and straight forward, if two men were friends and decided they would share a hollywood mansion the size of a hotel and hang out together as friends that was all okay and no one questioned it, they had nothing to hide after all, but nowadays people like to revise the story in modern terms and say they were a couple or that they were Gay, not that it matters one way or the other, the fact is that they were just friends in the same way that David Niven shared a house wit Errol Flynn for a while because it was convenient and they were both single bachelors and shared the same enthusiasm for chasing women! They had crazy parties and had lots of girls that is for sure! The Hollywood hunk who was Gay , Rock Hudson, would never live with another man or allow that kind of casual image, he was determined to hide his true inclination from the world , whereas Cary and Randolph and Errol and Niven couldn't care less, it just never occurred to them that sharing accommodation with a male friend would be suspect, ,and at the time it wasn't, especially if your accommodation was the size of a small hotel!!
