Always appreciate your reviews and your opening "hope you're doing well" greeting. Looks like the designer took your advice into consideration. A mint tin version is now available. Looks good. I just ordered it. Best and I hope you're doing well too.

Love the art! This looks perfect for playing alongside young ones. The design of the physical components is fantastic, knowing it was done in TGC they spent some time on the design.

Looks interesting. Appreciate reviewing this. The art caught my eye in the summer sale but agree seems expensive for what it is.

Are you talking about Brimstone at the end? John Glover played the devil in that show. If so, you have good taste. It's pretty obscure but it's one of my favorite horror shows. I like the "fighting monsters" genre. G vs E: Good vs. Evil is another one you might be interested in. It's a very different take on a similar premise. It's funny and very weird

65 dollars is so much! I’d definitely also not have 4 mats together that keep moving about, I’d find that infuriating. I’d have 1 sheet that folds.I totally agree it’s over produced, looking at this I could make this game for half the price using standard flat cards, it would still be a great little game. Definitely needs more bosses! This would add no extra cost if the designer added them to the same sheet. Great little review!

This is a really cute game, and I could see picking it up at a shop, were it around.. 30-40 dollars. I've paid more for less, if I'm honest. That said, it reminds me a bit of Torch & Blade, a completely free print and play game from one of the BGG solitaire contests. This is nowhere near as complex, obviously, but it does have that vibe of exploration and the danger of being in the dark in a hostile place. Very interesting game, though.. hopefully they take your recommendation and see if a company is willing to take a chance on it!

Not directly related to this but I'm just curious what brand of card sleeves you use? I was watching some of your Dungeon Degenerates videos and like the matte finish on the card sleeves.

I used to use a premium sleeve. Don’t remember the brand. Unipro, or something like that? I’ve actually begun the process of unsleeving most of my games. I really hate the feel of sleeved cards, they take up too much space, and I don’t like plastic. I have a huge box of premium sleeves to donate to some local MTG players. :)

@@TheDungeonDive That's a very good point, you may have swayed me to go sleeveless...

I only use sleeves on a few games now where I've printed DIY cards and have the printed cards sandwiched around a blank playing card. But that's just me. They just take up too much room to store, and I don't think they're very useful. My copy of Talisman 2e from the 80s still looks new, and it basically has small card stock cards that have never been sleeved. If you just treat your games like a normal person, your cards won't get damaged, and if they do they're just well-loved.

I think game crafters using the term Boss-Fight, Big-Boss, etc really cheapen the experience by breaking down the games biggest challenge into just another game-mechanic label.

65 Dollars!!?? Hmm... this or Baldur's Gate 3... what to choose... pretty tough decision... In all seriousness, I know comparing a board game to a computer game is a pretty dubious exercise, but seeing as they're essentially the same price, it's almost absurd how much more value BG3 would give you for your money.

  • @TheDungeonDive

In economics that’s called the economy of scale. You’re comparing one of the most popular video games ever to a game printed on demand that no one has ever heard of.

  • @carllyngholm5568

@@TheDungeonDive Well... in my original comment I basically admitted that it wasn't really a fair comparison, so maybe I shouldn't have made it at all. I also imagine that board games and computer games serve different demographics (though I'm sure there is a middle to that "Venn Diagram" that enjoy both for different reasons). I was just making a point that as a pure value proposition it was kind of absurd that both products we're equally priced from a consumer perspective. Of course, then you get into dicey arguments regarding the definition of "value". I guess I'm defining it as "the amount of quality content" that each product offers, but that's only my perspective. FWIW, it's also the perspective of someone who doesn't play board games but checked out your channel out of curiosity.

  • @TheDungeonDive

Right. There’s also the fact that when you get a board game, you actually get a physical thing. So you’re also paying for the actual components in addition to the design and manufacturing time and effort. Board games are a super expensive hobby, and video games are almost always a better value in terms of dollar per hour if entertainment.

  • @TheDungeonDive

    @TheDungeonDive

A really good comparison with BG3 is to look at all the books, dice, paper, models, terrain etc that you would need to emulate the video game experience on the table. You’d probably end up spending close to a grand, not to mention the time it would take to play, and having to find a GM and other players. It’s crazy to me that people today complain about the price of video games. There is no other form of art and entertainment that gives the consumer more for the money. It blows my mind that people think $70 is too expensive for a few hundred hours of entertainment. Video games are an insanely cheap hobby that give way more than what they cost. I think most video games should cost twice what they charge, especially when you factor in the thousands of hours of labor they take to make.
