Nice breakdown of the differences. As a video shooter I love the xh2s. 4k 60 no crop, 4k 120, f-log 2 (14 stops dynamic range!), better battery life, and custom mode dial really make it great for me. Also, I really like the top lcd as it allows me to have less icons on my lcd screen/view finder.

Thanks for your comment. I'm excited to get my hands on the X-H2S. Regular X Series image quality is fine for me, but having that kind of speed and performance would be a real boon to a lot of shooting and video styles. What kinds of things do you typically shoot?

Hey Gloria, that's great! I'm pretty curious about the X-H2S, especially since I'm doing more video these days, but even for still photography, I can imagine that it's got incredible image quality. What have you been shooting with it?
Thanks Dan for your insight into these two new X series cameras. The Xh2 is the one for me, don't think I will wait for xt5 as PASM and particularly the seven presets will make this a very fast camera to shoot with. I don't have a problem with PASM as I am a photographer and can adapt to my tools. Looking forward to your updated book mate.

@@DanBaileyPhoto No Dan, but feeling like I should pull the trigger on purchasing the X-H2. I don’t see much on the immediate horizon that compares, and the price is right. Getting ready to shoot our granddaughters wedding next summer. I will use two Sony HD cams and thought about using the X-H2 for an unfixed position cam and photos. Any advice?

Also waiting for the X-T5. Hopefully it's an in-between the X-H2 and X-H2s, or a bit more leaning to X-H2 with more stills focus. I loved the X-H2 (tried at Fujikina), but as an X-T4 user, I need the manual dials :D

@LuxDalet, that's kind of what I'm hoping for, and I agree with you. As much as I'm intrigued about the idea of getting an X-T2S for video work, as a decade-long X-T shooter, I don't think I'd be as happy with an X-H as my main camera.

@Lux/Dalet I'm curious to get my hands on one and see how it feels.
The best feature about the new autofocus systems on the X-H2’s, is that it allows you to focus (pun intended) on composition, if you choose to rely on the subject detection… it works super well for birds and animals ;)
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
I would agree. I had the chance to try out the new Subject Detect AF last week, and I was really impressed. Being able to separate the technical task of autofocus from the creative activity of composition will definitely help make for a more efficient and less frustration workflow.
I’m assuming you mean the stacked sensors are new to Fuji? They’ve been around for a while. My Sony A9 is 5 years old with a stacked sensor.
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
You are correct. Stacked sensors are new to Fujifilm, and to many other brands as well. Sony has been developing them for a few years, but it's only been recently when they introduced/licensed the latest versions that have the dual-layer stacked sensors, which place the back-side-illuminated photodiodes and pixel transistors on their own separate layers above the circuitry layer. This allows for even more increased dynamic range, and also allows for even smaller pixel sizes, which is what would be needed for Fuji's 40MP sensor on the X-H2.
Help needed! I am a wedding and event photographer shooting on an XT-3. The biggest issue I have is low light performance followed by focus accuracy (not speed). Which will be better for low light xh2 or xh2s? The xt-3 just doesn't cut it anymore in dark situations.
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, the X-H2 has a bit better sensitivity in low light compared to the X-H2S, but they're very close. In addition, the X-H2 has more phase detect pixels, which should give it a slight edge when shooting portraits and other non-moving subjects. They're both incredible, and either would do a MUCH better job than the X-T3. I played around with the X-H2 earlier this week, and was totally blown away by its AF speed and accuracy. This new generation of X Series cameras is really incredible!

@@DanBaileyPhoto Hi Dan, thanks for the advice. I ended up picking up an S yesterday. I spoke to someone at Fujifilm Australia who recommend the S for low light. 40mp is great but the file size penalty isn’t worth it. The S feels super snappy and the shutter mechanism feels so different to the xt3, very satisfying to use.

Josh, the little X-S10 is a full-on pro quality picture taking machine in a tiny, compact package. Have tons of fun with it!
Thanks for the comparison. I have been looking at these two X-H camera bodies as a replacement for my X-T3. I do Landscape, wildlife and some portraits. One of the problems with both of the X-H's is that dam flippy screen. I did not upgrade to the X-T4 because of that screen. Will the X-T5 have the same screen option? I sure hope not. If I was to choose, I have been leaning towards the X-H2 . I hope that someone will do a BIF test on the photography side of the X-H2. This would help me and others decide on which X-H body to choose. Or maybe to wait and see what the X-T5 holds.....
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. That's the big question, isn't it? The flippy screen on the X-T4 and new X-H models is great for video, but it's definitely a bit awkward for shooting stills, so a lot of people are hoping the X-T5 has the X-T3 style LCD screen. I'm one of those people. I guess that remains to be seen. Regarding BIF photography, the X-H2S will definitely have the edge for tracking things like that, but that doesn't mean the X-H2 can't do that with great accuracy. Personally, I've been impressed with how well all of the recent models track birds, even back to the X-T2. So much of that style comes down to practice and proficiency with your gear, but the new Subject Detect AF will definitely help improve performance for that kind of photography.

Yes, but the X-T4 has a much different intrinsic feel and view angle when you're shooting waist/low angles with the screen tilted up compared to the X-T3, especially in tight spots.
Hi Dan, I compared both cameras but do not see a real difference in the results. Both seem to have the same resolution.
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Frank, thanks for your comment. The X-H2 and X-H2S do have different sensor resolutions, but it would be very hard to discern the difference, considering that the cameras have higher resolution than most monitors. You would need a very high resolution display to see the difference, and even so, you may not even see a different unless you enlarged the photos to a very big reproducing size. At any rate, we have all won the sensor war. We have more resolution and image quality than most of us will ever need.

Cool. I used to be a 100% still shooter, but have been getting more into video lately. Obviously with all the KZread lessons, but I also like to combine video with original music that I write and produce. Anyway, keep up the good work, Mike!
Although firmly a rusted on Fuji X XT20, XT20 and recently X S10 user, have not found any shortcomings, apart from fast IAF. That said, have never taken a video of note. Will take a good deal to indulge in, for me, uncessary GAS. Dan though has kindled some interest in one of these new bodies, however my interest would be limited to stills only. It is worth noting that the single lens 100V was regarded as a killer for street work- 16mg sensor. Be careful what we may keep spending on! My eyes are opened. Did prick up my ears at Dan's commentary on what may amount to increase in the IAF which has sadly lagged behind Sony ( I had such problems with non compliant portrait subjects, both adults and young children, I purchased a mint 2nd hand Sony a6400 and a Sigma 56 1.4- a really magic combo). Will need to see what these cameras offers that my existing equipment does not provide. Thanks Dan for this early introduction.

Robert, thanks for your comment. Yes, these two new cameras are intriguing, and not just from their own impressive features. This is also a prelude to the kinds of technology and features that will likely be coming to the rest of the series in future X-T, X-Pro and X-E models as well.
More pixels doesn't mean better quality. The XH2 isn't as good for silent shooting/ES, as banding could be a problem. Larger files may slow down workflow.
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You are correct, more pixels alone don’t make for better quality, it it is one component that can make a difference. And yes, banding can occur sometime when using the ES inside, but it’s not always an issue. I’ve used the ES many times without issue. What kinds of subjects do you like to shoot?
I here is my dilemma.....I am a portrait and fashion photographer and currently using X-T4. Choosing between H2 or H2S????? More2 I got fashion runway shoots projects where I need a fast AF, sharp, fast even in low light conditions. Starting also more into Video making but not like a MOTION PICTURE MOVIE but more documentary videos where I need some quality slow motions. .... What should I aim for .... X-H2 or X-H2 S ?
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Harry, that is indeed he big dilemma. The thing to keep in mind is that BOTH the X-H2 and X-H2S will be more capable with regards to IQ, autofocus speed, and video performance than your current X-T4. For shooting moving subjects in low light, though, the X-H2S will have a slight edge over the X-H2 compared to the X-T4. Another thing to consider... if you love the form factor of the X-T4 and you're still happy with that camera, you might even wait to see what comes next, because most of the features in the new X-H models will likely trickle down to all of the upcoming 5th generation X Series cameras, whenever they are eventually released. Is your X-T4 getting the job done for you, or are you struggling to get those low light portrait/fashion shots?

You're welcome, Harry. And yes, whether you jump on one of the X-H models or wait, you can be sure that whatever comes next will offer a performance enhancement over your current X-T4. Of course, AF in low light is tough for anyone. It's probably the hardest skill and technical requirement of any photography and camera.
pixel shift sounds great but in reality unless nothing moves in your shot, it's useless.
@DanBaileyPhoto
Жыл бұрын
Ariel, it would seem that Pixel Shift is clearly not designed for shooting moving subjects. The internal captures happen very quickly in sequence, but yes, you'd have to have a still subject for this to work, and ideally the camera on a tripod. It's not that far out, though; there have been a number of camera features introduced over the years that help maximize the capture of still images. For landscape and closeup shooters who work on a tripod, Pixel Shift on a 40mp sensor will no doubt give them the quality boost they've been craving.
