Thank you so much for this fiber arts mini class. I love learning of Irish wool and how each works into designing hand knits. I learned the difference in the yarn mills of Ireland and how they source and process the wool. I am in the CKC2023 and absolutely love the new Deas yarn and Blasta is one of my favorites.

Wonderful video! Very interesting. The last time I was in Ireland I bought wool from all 3 mills. I am happy to have supported all of them a bit.

Thank you Carol, Irish Yarn (wool) ! is close to my heart. Things are changing slowly but surely, and here in Ireland, as you put it so well, the average knitter has no idea what REAL yarn is. I have found it very difficult to source genuine Irish yarn for projects, but am now very optimistic for the future, both for our native sheep breeds and farmers interested in getting better prices for their fleeces. I think a central scouring facility is on the cards now. Fingers crossed .

This is brilliant. I was one of those who called everything wool and it’s only in the last year that I discovered the difference. Love knitting with wool now.

This is so interesting and I laughed when you talked about the Irish calling everything wool remembering how my family teased me for calling it yarn and wondering when I became that posh...lol...obviously I still knit with 'cotton wool'.

Right?? I've had many discussions with knitters who were looking for wool but get confused when I give them 'wool' 🤣

Thanks for such a great piece Carol. It was so interesting and informative. Ireland has lost so many industries over the last number of years, to the point were we are over reliant on imported goods. I really hope the Galway wool takes off and thrives.

Very glad to hear that the Irish mills are trying to increase production and hope they will prosper in the future. I am totally in agreement with the idea of keeping yarn production going. I have been on the hunt here in the US for locally grown and produced yarns. They are out there providing some excellent products. Wonderful! Thanks for your very informative vlog, I look forward to the next ones.

Thanks for a great podcast! I live in Oregon, which was once home to several woolen mills, but now most sheep are raised for meat here. But small-batch producers are doing some wonderful work and I try to support them when possible.

Thanks, that was interesting. I have quite a bit of Studio Donegal and the yarn from Kilcar (can't remember their brand name) that I pick up each time I go to the Donegal Gaeltacht - really must start at least one project with it soon!

I have purchased the blanket kit from you but I'm wondering if the Galway mill will sell the processed fleece in roving or top form to hand spinners. I'm in the US but I've bought raw fleece, roving, and top from other countries before. I would love a chance to spin native Irish wool. 😊
