What really surprises me is that Jesus doesn't play more of a role in the stories of Ghost Rider. It having that distinct southern gothic asthenic. There was a character called "the friend" back in the 70s who literally chases Satan away from claiming Jonny's soul.

The greatest flex in DC history, in my opinion is The Specter, the literal wrath of God, effortlessly killing true Darkseid on Apocalypse before rising him again just because Darkseid dared to blaspheme God and because it wasn't his place to permanently kill him as God had plans for Darkseid. Literally the coldest moment in DC and nobody ever talks about it.

@@TheXplanations The Spectre #19 by John Ostrander. The Spectre goes to Apokolips to save a girl kidnapped by parademons and effortlessly tears a path to her. Darkseid confronts him, acknowledges God's existence but claims that The Spectre can't hurt him because "it" (God/The Source) has no jurisdiction on Apokolips before attempting to harm The Spectre with his Omega Beams. All this does is fill The Spectre with rage and causes him to disintegrate Darkseid in an instant, Apokolips itself screams in anguish, before Darkseid is returned to existence. He and The Spectre conversate, and it's revealed that God/The Source brought Darkseid back because he has a purpose in the multiverse, asking The Spectre "Why is that do you think?" The Spectre leaves with the girl and the two part strangely amicably. It was incredibly interesting and I hate how nobody ever brings it up. It was also a really good example of how to incorporate Christianity into the overall cosmology of the other comics in an organic way.

The problem with Christian superheroes is that Christianity itself is incompatible with the worlds the characters inhabit. It doesn't help that most comic book authors are not Christian. So many characters end up with the most simplistic, hyper caricatured religious beliefs which clearly betrays the writers' lacking knowledge of Christianity.

  • @Jimmy-iy9pl

If someone wants to write a successful comic book Christian superhero, they need to first establish a world that's compatible with orthodox Christianity. So no weird syncretism of the various world mythologies in your portrayal of the divine world - unless you want to make them demons. The character has to actually live a life that's consistent with their beliefs. There shouldn't be any shyness when it comes to writing about and explaining their religious beliefs, which should actually reflect real Christian beliefs. And God should be portrayed accurately and carefully if you wish to include him in the story in any capacity - as Lewis did with Aslan. And obviously the comic book shouldn't come across as preachy for the sake of being preachy. In most cases, a comic is not being written for the purpose of evangelism. Having Christian elements in your story doesn't excuse bad writing.

Also, there was a short lived comic series by an indy company called Archangels that was great. It had stories of Christians and sinners alike going through their mundane lives, but showed the spiritual warfare that happened where they could not see between angels and demons for the soul of the Character. I think the more Christian depiction of Nightcrawler in the 90s cartoon can be taken a bit more at face value; at least in his introductory episode, the writer for the script really had no experience with any X-men lore; and most of the viewers never get into the pluralistic lore of Marvel or their fictionalization of angel vs demon. To most people (and the show writers), Nightcrawler is just a mutant that "looks like" a demon, not related to a fictionally downplayed demon; his appearance initially is part of X-men's narrative on racism rather than connected to Marvel's questionable mythos. Whereas Dr. Fate is, up front, at conflict with genuine Christianity as an intrinsic part of his character, Nightcrawler really depends on the writers and it's much harder to discern with how many writers and different continuities they make lol

Yeah, I completely get that, which is why I try to stick to "the Canon" of the particular interation I'm discussing only, i.e if its 90's seires night crawler, I'm looking only at that interaction of him rather than all interactions of the character. Even in the case of Dr. Fate, to my Knowledge I think Young Justice's version is the only one that had Zatara take up the mantle. I think all other interactions have kept it strictly to Kent Nelson. So the "Christian Dr. Fate" observation will fall flat in any other case.

Because of the popularity of the show, Marvel moved to make the character's stories that of the show. So they kind of leaned into that a bit.

They weren't always religious but they did embody the good morals and attitudes associated with being a Christian and a good person. Not sure why western media no longer makes characters like these anymore and these days, their attitude towards Christianity or Judaism in media is to be hostile or condescending. The only good Christian character I have seen in western media is Joshua Graham from teh Fallout New Vegas game.

Ive actually written a Christian superhero, and i tried my best to make him a good representation. His backstory was that as a child, his preacher father was killed by a man that was possessed by a demon, and he dedicates his life to stopping demons from hurting people. One day, God came to him in a dream and told him that his goals were just, but that his heart was corrupted by vengeance, and that in order for him to proceed with his goal, he needs to let go of his hatred and do things purely for the benefit of others and bringing glory to God. The man accepts this and God bestows upon him divine abilities, such as instant exorcism, the ability to heal himself and others, create blasts of divine light, and even raise the dead, though this would put him into a coma. After gaining these powers, he suits up in a Crusader-like suit of armor and searches for demons that need exorcism or people that need help. His costume inckudes a full helmet that covirs his full face si that he himself will never get credit for the good acts he performs, only God

I'm creating a comic series with Christian themes, though at first glance, it might not look like it. I have races from fantasy existing as aliens on other worlds, headed mostly by the angels. The angels in this series live human-like lives and were once humans themselves, but were turned into angels when they used these suits to absorb the energy of these energy-based lifeforms that were trying to wipe out humanity. However, what these angels truly are will be explained later. There is a similar set up with the daemons, they were genetically engineered by an ancient evil society to be used as super soldiers to purge the galaxy, but that evil society vanished, leaving them behind to develop into a brutal eugenicist society. True demons and true angels will exist in this setting, and I look forward to getting to the point in this series where I can reveal them and fully reveal the Enochian League (I had a brief hint to them in issue 2) The most biblically incompatible thing in it is that human history begins long, long before but was lost to us, and we were once part of an alliance of other races. The protagonist of the series is an orphan in feudal japan whose dreams connect him to the mystery of a missing angel. The time period this takes place in gives me the opportunity to mention the Jesuit mission in Japan at the time and include many Christian characters.

It's hard to reconcile the comic book world where Magic, Pagan gods and extraterrestrials are all real and interact with the Christian one where such things are either forbidden or superstition. While I don't think writing a Christian character in such a universe is an attempt to deceive believers it will always clash and feel disjointed. You get the same thing in some fantasy works and many Sci Fi ones (Hello Star Trek). Good video nonetheless. ^^

I would like to counter that with "the dog-men of India". This is an actual account of a Christian council tackling the topic of whether things non-Human (but crucially non-Demonic) could be saved. As the title suggests, back when information was hard to come by an even harder to verify, out of India reached Europe stories of packs of werewolf-like "dog-men" who were being sighted. The question was posited that if these were indeed true accounts, could the dog-men be evangelized to and be saved. After some discussion, the Council concluded that, yes, they dog-men could be saved. That is because they are products of God's Creation as much as Humanity is, plus that "made in God's image" refers to we being vessels for God's power (which is a main reason why God despised idols, vessels meant for things not from God). In summary, this is why the vast majority of Christians wouldn't be as freaked out about aliens, as Science Fiction writers so wrongly insist so often that Earth's major religions - but especially Christianity ends up being a focus - would almost immediately collapse into obscurity the moment first contact was undeniably made.

@user-vi4xy1jw7e Not necessarily with aliens, but typically most Christians see hauntings as - if they're not just hysteria or hoaxes - Demonic is nature, as obviously there's the belief of Heaven and Hell. Christians even believe in Magic, they just make it explicitly clear that what isn't showmanship or charlatans is simply because of powers that aren't coming from God. Which often but not always goes into the Demonic territory again. See the Witch of Endor summoning Samuel's ghost for Saul for Biblical reference.

I think part of the issue here is that we're talking about 2 gigantic, interconnected weaves of multiple stories, written by multiple writers over decades. Stories that are not written to be gospel, and stories that have been written by atheists several times. If I, as a Christian, DO want to create a story involving a Christian superhero, and I want some specific aspect of the faith to be portrayed, I don't see how that's somehow less valuable because some other story written under the same IP and company 5 years later by someone else completely different makes reference to God as being a diety at the same level as Thor or whatever. Like, yes, in a very literal interpretation, in-universe, they may not be worshipping the exact same analogous one true God as we do as Christians in the real world. But that's because of a technicality that's a side effect of stories about the same characters being written by different people, in works of fiction. Obviously, these kinds of portrayals will never be as valuable as the literal word of God, or genuine testimony, or works of fictions specifically created from the beginning by Christians to realistically present the faith in all aspects, but I don't think that means they aren't valuable. Nightcrawler in the 90's tv show was my introduction to the world of Christianity, and I don't think the fictional character living in a fictional world that another person created an inaccurate fictional depiction of a different deity. If a specific episode or story arch is written to showcase and align with Christian values, I think that's better than the only alternative I can think of, that all secular fiction be completely devoid of it's inclusion for the sake of not breaking biblical accuracy. I for one find "ironic" depictions of people of faith to be quite moving. One of the biggest cornerstones of Abrahamic Faiths is that no one deserves salvation, but everyone, no matter how sinful, can be forgiven and gifted salvation. Take for instance, some modern comic depictions of Nightcrawler being half-demon. With exception to some interpretations believing the Nephilim were fathered by fallen angels, this isn't something that happens in the real world, under our God, and isn't depicted within the word of God. However, in telling a story, especially one where it's obviously presented as not being like our own world, in a hypothetical universe where such a thing is possible, one could argue that such a creature could still be saved. Fallen angels were once angels, obviously, but also, being half human, they might have a soul, and could in theory be Christian if they accept Jesus into their heart, could they not? And now you have a wonderful analogy of someone who many, Christians including, would condemn, not unlike the tax collectors and sinners that Jesus dined with. Similarly, maintaining one's faith in a world where Gods and Aliens wreak havoc seems like a virtue. As a Christian, I don't believe in aliens, but if by some happenstance humanity did actually discover civilized aliens on another planet, and they had the technology to do unthinkable miracles, I don't believe that would shatter my faith in God. Just because Captain America lives in a world where people appear Godlike, does not mean its inconceivable that he still believes the One True God holds more power. And even IF another story written by somebody else shows that this fictional representation of our God DOESN'T, I don't think that makes stories about that hero's faith bad representation. if you want a story where the creation of the universe, and the rules of our world, perfectly aligns with the Bible, then yeah, Marvel and DC obviously aren't that. They never were. And works of fiction like the Remnant do fit that bill very nicely. But I don't think people are misinterpreting these representations like you seem to imply they do.

That's cool to hear your introduction to Christianity was through Nightcrawler. I agree with most of what you said, I honestly think I expressed that coming to the end of the video and my closing. Only on your final sentence I just want to address. Some of us that are strong in the faith (which I assume you are given the what you expressed and how you articulated the comment). Tend to forget that there are those that are not. Or even tend to forget how we were when we were babes in Christ and the guidance we needed. Especially when we lacked any coherent bible knowledge and only knew about God through what we heard from other Christians or from the Pastors over us. I for one was one of them, that thought Marvel's Celestial creation story and the one above all were synonymous with God. Because it 'seemed' similar and used the 'right' lingo. But it's years after when I got into Seminary and got into word more. When I revisited old Marvel Comics, I realized how different it was. And as you said it being different isn't a bad thing after all they aren't trying to preach the gospel here. The problem for me arised from the fact that the some of the great pioneers were instead intentionally flipping it. You mentioned the fact that these stories are written by multiple writers over many decades with their own iterations. But some of the very first foundational iterations when you peel back the layers were intentionally anti-biblical from the get-go. Not anti-biblical in the sense that it is fiction and not real. But anti-biblical in the sense that Kirby, Engelhardt and others literally stated they went to the bible in the 60s - 80s. And upon those foundations is how we got to what where we are today. Where some comics and fiction are just flat out on some war kind of war on God. I am not one that is for the "Satanic Panic" nor advocate to get rid of entertainment altogether. I am a fan of these things just like anyone else. But I have seen in comment sections some WACK STATEMENTS by "Believers" which are not congruent to the word of God. It's not an over exaggeration or creating a slippery-slope of maybe "it could potentially lead to Christians thinking this type of way praising these characters later down the road of time". But its from the perspective of a Christian (myself) who taught in that kind of way that all God References are in Reverence to Him, and found myself in echo chambers whether it be forums, or video comment sections that held the same view. Go through the comment sections of our Doctor Strange or Sandman videos if you got the time to see it first hand. It's WILD, might want to pull a 🍿 too. Even some of the comments under this video are wild and I made a video looking at comments from this recently. Some are able to use their discernment to, as another commenter stated which I like "eat the fish and spit out the bones". While others, especially the babes in Christ are out here framing the bones to fill that longing for Christian representation. Accepting anything, even as little as Captain America's simple line in avengers or Ultron bible scripture quotes as "feel good Christian resurgence moment". Even when the very basis of it all is intentional twisting his word. And as I told another person, I have no problem with these scenes themselves as I believe God can use anything to reach anyone at anytime for HIS purpose. Even when it is made by folks whose made it a mission to deny him and pervert his word. My issue comes when his people are advocating to 'swallow or frame the bones' in the name of Christian Representation. Like I once did and many continue to do today.

One issue I always had with “Christian” comic book characters is how they’d often not be consistent in their beliefs or consistently go against their beliefs. Matt Murdock is supposed to be a devout Catholic but he’s always sleeping around. Even Kurt has slept around and been in a relationship with a witch. Those are very explicitly non-Christian behaviors but Marcel had them doing that over and over again. I’d love to see a Christian who actually sticks to core Christian beliefs. And no I'm not accusing anyone here I just figured I'd address that because I find it kind of odd like I never see any internet backslash against Family Guy ever So idk To me at the end of the day these are nothing more than interesting stories and me as a person who really likes to write and me who actually really likes Cosmic genre like the Lovecraft books and ancient cultures like mythologies and as a Christian myself I enjoy writing Cosmic stuff like that I think writing ancient lore is probably the most interesting thing about writing a fiction is writing Lore for the world to fiction is based in Whether it's lore based on actual existing mythologies or it's lore based on your own creativities More than likely entirely depend on the person But at the end of the day that's just my opinion and I'll respect anyone else's opinions here and I would love to respectfully hear anyone else's opinions but only in a respectful conversation because my problem with Christian opinions is not the opinions themselves it's just that they seem to always be angry when expressing it Praise God I pray that all of you have blessed days And I love you all as I love Jesus Amen

No Karen's behind the scripts, strictly comic comic nerds here 🤣 . I respect your opinion and I think you do mine as well. I have been a comic nerd from as early as I can remember and a serious lore deep diver. So I only make videos on topics I know deeply about. I'm a Christian (which is obvious from the video), where I'll say I was only truly saved last year, but I grew up in a Christian household with a Christian mother who's #1 mission for her children was that they knew God above every thing else (education, even life itself it seemed at times 😂). Growing up I held onto these Christian characters mentioned and what ever Christian references I was able to pickup on. But as I did further research into the material and actually came into the understanding of the bible, I began to notice that the references weren't actually honoring God the way I thought and say many Christians proclaim. Something discussed at the 17:25 mark of the video. Christians have what I call a "special ability" to pull a Christian Allegory or message out of anything, even when it is meant to blatantly blaspheme God. And there is nothing inherently wrong with that as I do believe God can use anything to reach anyone at anytime for his purpose and glory. I discussed this in depth in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHl6stCeZbzIgZM.html. But the issue steps in when we put our allegorical 'good message' we were able to pullout over what the actual material is portraying. Yes, the message you were able to pull out may have moved on your heart and sometimes it is the move of the Holy Spirit ministering to you. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is giving an "It's okay to indulge in these things, even if it is made to go directly against His word". To me personally it's like reading the book of Hosea in the bible and making the conclusion "oh so it's okay to take a prostitute as a wife as a Christian because God used it to show forth his love to Israel". I know that sounds extreme, but it is what we Christian fictional nerds do towards our favorite pieces of fiction. There is nothing wrong with having a love for fiction. The issue as stated in the video is when we put the "good message" we get over the principles God has set before us in the bible. Not because we have to live a restricted and boring life, but as guardrails to help us from ourselves. That's the perspective I make these video from as a Christian comic book nerd and I hope you get what I mean 🙏🏿 . (side note) I think its more a case of people are more aware of and watch more Netflix, Marvel and DC than Family Guy especially among Christian circles. I can say I know of Family Guy but I have never in my 21 years of living sat down and watched an episode form start to finish. Mainly because (1) It was one of those shows growing up my mom filtered out from us watching because of the crude and crass nature of it. (2) Even in my late teen young adult phase of exploring and watching everything under the sun I wasn't able to while growing up. I still never had the interest in the show. So although that is my personal experience with it, I think it is probably similar to majority of Christians especially point #1. But I have watched compilations and clips that come across my social media feeds. Often is an eyeroll 🙄and scroll. I took a look at your channel. You got some good stuff from what I briefly saw 😂

Ghost Rider would be a false Christian story as well. He sold his soul to one of the beings that mirrors Satan. He eventually turns on "Satan". But he retains the powers of the evil one. They never mention the fact that he would have to turn to God/Christ in order to be redeemed from his sin and selling his soul to Satan. (Not a real thing BTW). So right there it spits in the face of God and Jesus Christ. And the fact that he kept the powers means that he is using the powers given to him by SATAN to pretend to be good. Any power that does not come from God would therefore come from Satan. (also being less powerful as Satan is not the enemy of God, but of us) And using anything of Satan is pretty much working for Satan. (A house divided cannot stand). So, no. Ghost Rider is not even close to a Christian story.

Im sorry to say this to you but, most superheros are based on christian mythos. The very first christian hero came in the image of a holy knight, far from true the heroics of a medieval knights, but the mythos is basically a christian hero, like king Arthur and his knights. This is the prototype of the modern super heros wich were already BORN as christian heros. "The holy knights would roam the land helping those in need always in the search of the holy grail, only to discover at the end of their journey that the holy grail was always within their hearts in their love and loyalty for Christ." The modern hero, or christian hero differ from the classical hero or greek heros because this are always seeking fame and glory, they could commit the most heinous acts as long as this lead them to the fame and glory, like Heracles who kill his own family when he was enraged. And by the way, christian already know the biggest and only REAL super hero that ever lived, wich is Christ itself. And well if you are a christian, but doesn't know the golden rule (love the others as you love yourself) well then you are NOT a christian, because this is the MOST BASIC THING you should know about christianity

Jim Corrigan was explicitly Catholic, and his interactions with the Presence took on an explicitly Christian context (Michael Archangel serves as the Presence's emissary, for example). If I remember correctly, Ostrander studied theology, and you see a lot of that in the Spectre's interactions and attitudes during his run on the book. No, I don't think it did a good job of glorifying God, but I think Ostrander was trying to explore those themes in the comic.

He spoke about marvel and how they have the pantheon of "sky gods" and how TOAA was the only creator with everyone else falling under him, but didn't talk about marvel and how even though they also posses lowecase god like beings (trigon, nabu, all of the Greek pantheon due to wonder Woman, specific sandman charactersetc.) They also have Lucifer, Michael, and treat the Presence as how the angels would be with God, etc. None of them do a perfect job but I feel like the conversation goes deeper than "their God is not your God so don't follow their example when they talk about God". I think comics in general points a lot of fascinating concepts that many of us do not think about often time to time; a magician (often painted as evil practices in the Bible) that has absolute faith in the Christian God. Spider-man who lives in a Christian household (aunt May praying before she is interrupted by green Goblin, as well as her being the glue that holds today's Peter Parker to the hero side instead of slipping into his darker thoughts) already mentioned franklin, and night crawler (a god-like person who prays to a higher power, and a demon who is devoutly Catholic, putting God above all else). It's a great way concept of " how would it play out if this kind of person lived in our world" without taking it too seriously. Id love to see his take on SCP - 343 from the SCP series. He's LITERALLY an individual who is supposed to be THE God of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. It's a fascinating watch

It's really to cut through the noise, and the "thick fog" of a bad rep Christian entertainment has rightfully garnered. As well as to provide my perspective to what I like and don't like of Christian representation in mainstream ips like I did in this video. Because alot of "Christian characters" and themes are being written into stories by folks who open profess to despise God and Religion, Marvel's recent Judgment Day series was my turnoff point. It feels like the reverse of how atheist in Christian work were written in the most cringey way possible. Christian character these days are written in a way to intentionally piss off Christian audiences. But let me not go into that as I have as I have a lot of videos on those topics. Anyway man I know this comment turned out to be longer than I expected, I kind of do get passionate in the comments from time to time with comments like this. Also just want to say I wish you the best with your writing projects as well.

Great video! As a Christian it feels nice to be represented at all in a very secular culture and popular culture. Many people view Christian beliefs as a default in the west so they don't need to be expressed or explored in media. 64% or so of U.S. Americans identify broadly as Christian but when you look at practicing denominations they are only each of 3 categories between 10 to 15%. Even still many don't practice or consider their faith in their daily lives. There's also a cultural perception of faith and spiritual belief being backwards and bigoted something to be privately held not expressed. I admit guilt in this, I rarely bring up or express my beliefs even among trusted friends and loved ones fearing argument or ridicule. Also I find interesting that DC seems to tend to viewing the supernatural and morality in a combination of Christian and Eastern Mysticism. Moral ideas and conflicts often arise when these meet an Example being Batman being a hardline logical pacifist, akin to Amish/Quaker beliefs, versus the ruthless mysticism of The League Of Shadows. Whereas, Marvel despite major characters being Catholic or Christian such as Daredevil and Captain America, seems to explore cosmically and view the universe as multifaceted without black and white, I personally see it sharing much in common with Kabbalism and other mysticism. The Abrahamic elements just being a smaller part of that in wider stories with a few occasional nods to character's personal belief or the concept of a penultimate universal "God" but never really "The God." One example being Captain America in Avengers 2012 saying "There's only one God mam, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." Which the director himself didn't like but he wanted in because it fit his Character. I think with Marvel in particular religion is just another character trait thrown on like a Pizza topping. With the Fox Kids X-Men as an outlier as it was specifically made under at the time very strict guidelines saturday morning cartoons to be appealing to the moral crowd.

Zatara wasnt reciting a spell, he was saying the Lords Prayer first in Italian and then English, and God has no issue with him practicing magic or else the sign of the cross would strip him of his powers. I was always more into Batman and Robin because the weren’t super powered superheroes but just ordinary people. I wouldn’t mind having more Christian media out there if we could actually make good content. Most of what we make is preaching to the choir or is just really lousy. Done right Christian media could rival secular media in any genre and show a better way and be a great witnessing tool. Unfortunately we tend to be a stereotype of ourselves. We can compete if we get out of our own way. We jam so much biblical references and Christian stereotypical living into or media that only the majority lukewarm Christians will enjoy it.

I wouldn’t consider Zatara turning to Naboo as deceitful because he was quite literally fated to be a prisoner under the mask. From the moment he put it on the first time he pretty much didn’t have a choice. They even mentioned how during his time with Zatanna that if he tried to avoid putting the mask on fate would have it so that he NEEDED to put it on. The prayer he says I see as him asking for forgiveness from trusting another god. As a result his bargain is accepted and he is freed of the mask.

Our perspective to Zatara wasn't necessary to the mask and Naboo, though it was inclusive as we quoted Judges 2:17, and how incongruent it was. Yeah and he was one of the most honorable people on the show, I can't remember his name but I do remember his biggest accomplishment. He literally faced down the JLU version of doomsday (a general gone rouge no the canon monster doomsday) with a bunch of non meta humans, hopelessly overpowered and outmatched doomsday asked him why he even bothered fighting him in the first place. The crusader goes on to tell him a story where King Arthur ordered him to destroy a village with everyone in it because one day the village could pose a threat to his rule. After going to the village, and seeing all the poor, an innocent people in it, the crusader return to King Arthur threw down his sword and refused kings order. King Arthur then told him he had passed the test and inducted him into the round table. He explains that his story was the show that following orders isn't always right and sometimes you have to stand up for what is right, even if you must stand alone. This actually got doomsday to stand down and rethink his morals. (Once again not the real doomsday a different story one)

Something I found interesting rewatching the recent Guardians of the Galaxy movie is just how much religious themes present themselves, particularly in the second half of the film. This shouldn't be surprising to anybody who understands the troubled production of the movie and the importance Chris Pratt's faith played in keeping spirits up. I think it demonstrates where Christianity works in superhero media, with a vague implication that there are higher powers at play, as opposed to attempts to incorporate Christian cosmology into comics canon, which often comes across as cringey or even insensitive. Ironically, the idea of an unseen power greater than even the so-called gods and equivalents that guides the universe towards justice (if sometimes by a surprising route) is much more accurate to the actual Christian experience of God than an attempt by atheist writers to shoe-horn in references to Revelations or whatever.

You're absolutely right in regards to what one lets into their home. Because I got a story in regards to that. I was little when this happened, it was when my brother was staying with my folks. (my brother was from my mom's previous marriage) They didn't know it at the time but he had brought some music home with him from his dad's. Some very bad music. How did my parents find out? Well my dad turned on the Seven Hundred club....when both he and mom saw a little black demon come racing out of the T.V set. It dashed down the hallway and at first my dad was afraid it was headed for my room but instead it ran for my brother's. My dad immediately confronted my brother about this and asked him what did he bring home from his dad's. Thats how they found out about the music. So I'm telling this to all of you reading this. Be CAREFUL what you watch and what you let into your home. Cause just because you're unaware of what certain material might be at the core, doesn't mean other entities don't. Entities that're jumping at the bit to get in and corrupt.

A lot of people will make fun of you for the "little black demon" part. But what they won't understand is that God can give the ability of discernment in order to alert you to spiritual dangers. And to back that up anecdotally, many years ago my wife had bought a copy of "The Blair Witch" movie on VHS from work and brought it home. When she was at work I watched it. The movie itself wasn't that scary and not that great to be honest. But soon I started feeling tormented in my own home. And my wife who had not even watched the thing started feeling things as well. Eyes watching us at night. Spots in a corner that were darker than the areas around it. Eventually, both of us prayed and claimed the blood of Jesus over our home. We claimed the home as ours by right in the spirit, commanded all unclean spirits to leave in the name of Jesus, and then destroyed the VHS tape. All the feelings and strange appearances went away that night. Let them laugh, but it is real.

I think there's a valuable argument to be made relating to that Young Justice episode about "magic", and religion, in a world where magic can be manifested, sometimes as a born ability, similarly to how in that world some people are born with super strength, or the ability to generate fire. The dilemma here is that notion that using magic as a tool to help others goes against the teachings of your religion. When we try to compare that idea to real life topics we might run into medical topics where a family member will reject a treatment that might save their loved one because it contradicts a particular aspect of their beliefs, or the classic denial of organ donation from your deceased relative, which could save a life. Religion can be interpreted in different ways, what's part of a Christian's routine is seen as shameful by another Christian. Magic in many fictional works can be seeing as just another super power, sometimes arguably as a blessing placed upon you, other times it is comparable with science, as it requires study and technic to be performed. Would you say it goes against God to perform medical procedures created by science to save a life? I've always seen those kinds of advancements as something we can develop thanks to the way God designed us, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..." Couldn't manipulating reality, if one learned how, also fall under that same logical umbrella? At the end of the day, it's up to the character, to decide if they are doing what they believe is the right thing, a discussion that regardless of the cosmology of their universe, is relevant in our own.

Really like the discussion and depth you bring here. I see and agree with you. I am NOT for simply mentioning God and thinking that equates to accurate representation or portrayal. The action is lazy and sometimes can feel like simple pandering. What I like to do though is see the best in people. Some people are VERY ignorant when it comes to true Christianity, even Christians 😂. Maybe some creators are doing the best they know how to acknowledge that Christ should be acknowledged in the show someway. When I was a newer Christian and didn't take my faith seriously, I thought that simply listening to "We Fall Down but We Get Up" and "This Battle is Not Yours" on Sunday morning before I went back to my hip hop, heavy metal, and other evil things I did, was devotions and God and I were cool with our relationship because I now finally don't believe that He HATED me, and I made the choice to acknowledge Him on Sunday mornings because I don't hate HIM anymore. It was pathetic...kind of like these shows portrayal of God amidst all types of vulgar sin being glorified...but it was the best I knew at the time. I had a LOT of growing to do...and if I didn't join a church that was so strict, I never would have grown to the point I am today. A lot of these creators, I feel are in the same place I was. "God and I are cool, and this little PIECE of my show, I'll give to Him so everybody can see that we have an arrangement." It's a misrepresentation at BEST 😂...but still, I desire them to grow and learn truth.

I think that since Nabu in the Young Justice universe is completely different than he is in the Bible due to him existing and serving a just purpose, Zatara becoming his host doesn't contradict him being Christian, it only contradicts Nabu's portrayal in the Bible (which is still worth criticizing due to the fact that this contradiction is never acknowledged). Also Khalid talking about being Muslim in the same episode is simply showing how people have different religious beliefs that are important to them and isn't downplaying the validity of Zatara being Christian or whatever you were implying.

  • @rainydaydoodler

In Young Justice, Vandal Savage is revealed to have been Marduk in ancient Babylon with Nabu as his son. These characters are the same Babylonian gods that are mentioned in the Bible but with a DC twist on their origin stories, which makes the command not to serve them still relevant in universe. Nabu himself exists to serve the lords of order, not justice and certainly not the true God. You can't honor God by serving other gods. In the same way, you can't honor God by performing sorcery when He specifically commanded against it. The problem with DC trying to incorporate muslims and christians into their show is that monotheistic beliefs are by nature incompatible with the pantheon of gods and religions shown to exist in the universe. The writers of the show clearly don't understand the beliefs of Christians or Muslims based on how they portray Khalid, Violet, and Zatara and would be better off leaving real world religions out of the picture.

Friend there are many ways to share God's message to many people social media is actually gone ballistic these days there are people and foreign countries who don't get to go to church at all some foreign countries but if there's a way to reach people with a message of Jesus Christ and that they receive it and they start realizing that they are loved by him and that he gives them happiness and not the world then that is a beautiful thing to be rewarded by those are my prayers and my blessings I pray that whoever is behind the cartoon and marvel and DC Christian perspective towards this and cartoons to reach people and add some Christian words to it and helping people come to Christ and to know who he is and this is beautiful and that there is no wrong in this ☀️✨💫🙏

Probably more agnostic? Was thinking about from it from the perspective of when they fight literal 'gods' after breakfast and travel the universe to defeat cosmic beings. I don't most of them think there is 'God' in the Christian sense out there. And most of the writers are atheist writing from their world view like Kiren Gillan stated about the Judgement Day event from last year.

I know this is comic, but in manga there is also Cygnus Hyoga from Saint Seiya, who is Christian, it's one of those weird stories, since he serves Athena and fights against other greek gods, but he still believes, he even mentions his faith later. Also it has something interesting, because the anime wasn't finished until many years later so Toei tried to adapt the last part in a movie which was the fight against Hades but using Lucifer. At the end of the movie the protagonist actually asks the Christian god for help.

Another thing about the doctor fate scene: Zatara cuts the Lord’s Prayer off early, conveniently leaving out “for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever” as a way of denying God acknowledgement of his omnipotence.

The version of the Lord's Prayer I know ends before that line. The only time we speak the final verse is during the Mass, and even then it's separated from the Lord's Prayer by an additional prayer spoken by the Priest, "Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ." Afterwards the final line of the Lord's Prayer is said in unison. I watched a movie some years ago (Air Force One, I think) where a woman recited the Lords prayer over the phone and included the final verse and I was so confused, because again, I've never heard it used in personal prayer before.

The other detail is that just because we believe in Him, it does not by that mean that we properly *comprehend* Him; that's a critical detail; but likely as not: these characters and us are both coworkers, simple as that; and are to be seen as that. I mean, if we could only accept *Perfect* Christians; there'd be only *2* in the entire existence of the human race; and the entire human race would basically have died off; so no, I do NOT consider these renditions decietful, not in the least: inaccurate/incomplete? Yes, but they are not lying to us, not by a long-shot; nor are they even trying to... He doesn't relish the destruction of the erronious, but the editing of the errornious so that the error itself ceases to exist. Regarding biblical passages: remember; especially the old testament has some of by far the *worst* conduct imaginable, even *Commanded* by "god"; so no, don't trust Him blindly, and above all: take the *worst* elements of those who follow Him and hold those up as His directives, due precisely to His regal office to begin with. Now Christ Himself, in His approach, would stand athwart your stance, and mine, on the basis of these being His coworkers, due to them having signed the same contract as we ourselves did; a contract not easily broken, nor should it *ever* be broken at that... as the only way to break it is to assault a coworker for instance.

This is a brilliant and badly needed element to these parts of American Mythology at that, if nothing else: it poses the intrinsic value to Christian beliefs; and advocates for traditional morals in that means.

I recall a Prince Valiant Sunday paper storyline of him meeting a large underground population. The basic explanation in their history was when the Great Deluge of Noah began, they had retreated with livestock, etc vastly deep in a cavern, sealing it up with brick; on the 40th day, as the last brick was going to go into place, a little girl cried out she could see sunlight but she was ignored and they remained, convinced the outside world destroyed. The fantastic creatures they had made Valiant think, "The old boy [Noah] certainly missed quite a few!" I could only smh at how scripture was being spat on with that storyline.
