Even though I'm mostly a PC & PS3 person, I have to admit that the HRRR-GURK is easily one of my favorite consoles to come out in recent years.

This video has reminded me what Gaming on the WiiU felt like at launch. It so much faster now.

~23 seconds to go from a game to the menu? Wow... My computer actually cold reboots faster than that (Cold reboot: Shut it off, then turn it back on again). Makes me wonder: Would it be faster shutting the console off, and then back on again instead of "going back" to the menu?

Apjooz so basically the time before consoles existed? all consoles are funny looking pcs. old consoles may not have an OS as we know it or an UI, but they're still computers. but if you're referring to additional functionality which was added to newer consoles: how is that bad? I like having a multi-media box that's capable of running amazing games. can't complain tbh

I like my Wii U. For your usual Mario games, it's great and its Call of Duty community is fairly lively. It's not ground-breaking, but it's a decent console. All it needs is more games. One thing I will say though is that the pro controller is absolutely fantastic. I've used the wiimote, the Wii U gamepad, the Playstation 3 controller and the Xbox 360 controller, but the pro controller is by far the most comfortable. If Nintendo did anything right with this console, it was the pro controller.

The Wii U actually has a tripod screwhole under the ridge with the ZL and ZR buttons

This makes me feel old, 9 years ago. Reminds me a ton of the Switch

I love my Wii U. So underrated.

Watching this back in 2020, it really was a proto-Switch. Everything's much more streamlined and shiny in the switch but it's a very similar basic idea. Makes me really intrigued to see what they'll replace the switch with in a few years.

I doubt the switch will change a lot. What I think they'll do is release a brand new and improved switch but with a 1080p lovely oled display. All up to date specs that can actually handle 1080p 60fps or higher.

The most redeeming feature of the Wii U for me was being able to draw with it. Granted, the drawing limitations are..well...limited. But easy to get around if you're a creative person.

Nintendo consoles are made of the glorious Nintendium. It was discovered by Yamauchi in 1975 and emenates value and amazement.

The thing you have to buy seperately? Not a defence any more than the Wii Motion Plus was. Crap as the Kinect is, Microsoft still give you a non-moronic controller with the system. Sony never put a lot of stock in their crappy alternative controls and haven't changed the Dualshock layout in 4 generations.

Ashens is a funny dude every video cracks me up, very good sense of humor.

I love the way the gamepad feels in my hand I didn't at first but now I find it like butter...

Please don't hate me....I think (except master race) the Wii U is *MY* favorite next gen console. Just my opinion.

People say the Wii U is bad. I say, the Xbox One and PS4 games are going to being released on PC through Steam anyway. The Wii U has actual exclusives that will probably never go on another console. Games on the Xbox One that are worth playing: ...? Not really any, since they are either ports from Xbox 360 or PS3, or just another damn CoD sequel that 12 year olds are raving about. Not only that, but the Xbox One and PS4 have no backwards compatibility! Meaning, you can't use your old games that you had before. The Wii U has backwards compatibility with older Wii games, and the homebrew developers are working on a GameCube disc loader in the Wii U's Wii mode. All of the games on the Xbox One and PS4 are basically third-party developed games, with no strong launch titles. Sure, Assassin's Creed Unity is good, but it's on Steam, possibly getting a Steam Winter Sale treatment of a cheaper price. Also, if you want another damn CoD sequel, it's also on Steam. Most (if not all) of the non-first party games on Xbox One or PS4 are already on PC. CoD: Advanced Warfare? PC. Assassin's Creed Unity? PC. The games that are worth playing are on PC through Steam. The Wii U has actual exclusives that aren't complete shit.

Hah. I doubt that "XBOX ONE AND PS4 ARE BETTER DERP." Issue is: PC is more powerful than Xbox One and PS4. The Wii U has actual exclusives. Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, etc, that will NEVER reach PC or other platforms. Getting a PC and a Wii U is what I've done, as PC is for playing exclusives, Xbox One, and PS4 games, whereas my Wii U is for playing older Wii games in HD and it's own exclusives. PC will, at some point, undercut the Xbox One and PS4 in price.

Funny because this is the best console on the fucking market. Wow. For me at least anyway. Consoles are turning into PCs and eventually consoles are going to die. Nintendo is the only one shying away from that, making new innovations and sseeexy consoles. Anyway.. The Wii U has the most exclusives and best exclusives and it's quite hard to deny that. Everything a PS4 and Xbox One can do a PC can do better. Except Kinect probably but that's shite anyway. Nintendo is going the right direction with this in my opinion, I can't wait to see their next consoles and handhelds. And don't give me the shit that PCs are too expensive. If you save up your fucking money I guarantee you will have enough and if you're a kid getting stuff for christmas and birthdays just get money instead, easy. Bai.

Wii U is actually better than it was back in 2012, whole lot of nice games to buy on virtual console, and a whole lot more games to play. It's pretty fast now too. Though, internet is a pain in the ass to get around christmas. When I first got mine in 2013, I didn't know that and I just permanently put it down until mk8 came around and I actually got the internet to work on it. But yeah, framerate is better, loading is faster, etc. Review is a bit dated now. The only thing that I think is a bit sucky about it is my connection with my gamepad to the wii u, disconnects itself from the wii u, but I guess it's cause I sit a bit far from my wii u.

Dang, did the Wii U really used to be this slow? I got mine in 2012 as well, but I don't ever remember waiting this long... On a side note, things load a LOT faster now.

(actually) Fun fact: The "sensor bar" on the Wii and Wii U is not a sensor at all, it just has ir LEDs in it, and the controller has a tiny ir camera in it which does the sensing. Why is this fun, you ask?? Cuz it means that anything that can emit infrared light can be used as a sensor bar. Got a candle handy??! Boom! Stone age wireless sensor bar!!! 🤯🤯

@@SheepUndefined Yeah, that was also a huge problem with them. They do/did make aftermarket sensor bars with much stronger IR LEDs, that were meant to work better in sunlight, but even those didn't really fix it. It was honestly a pretty poor design, on an already underpowered console. I wish Nintendo would get back to producing top tier offerings again, but it will probably never happen

Because it's faster, more reliable and more secure than wifi. Using ethernet over wifi can cut around 15ms ping in most situations, also it won't cut off if someones turns on a microwave in your house.

I have my wii u and I really like it , also one of the reasons I got it was to be able to play both the 1st party stuff but also the old 3rd party games , like batman city , that I hadn't played because I didn't have an Xbox or ps3, and I totally enjoyed arkham city on the wii u. I like the game pad and i liked being able to see where the remote control batarangs were going on the closer screen

By the way, that square you were pointing at that it was the "near wireless" thingy is radio frequency identification or RFID!

I have a lot of fun with my Wii u. Nintendo could have made way more better decisions on every regard when it comes to this console, but it still has good games and I love being able to play Bayonetta while I'm in the bathroom 😂

I actually got my Wii U in 2012. I didn't really know what it was, but I thought it was nice. Now that it's gained a bit of momentum from games like Mario Kart 8 being released, I love this thing!

I got a Wii U a few days ago as a birthday present. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I'm not a console gamer and stick to PC but I have always loved Mario, DK and Zelda so in turn I usually get whatever Nintendo has released. The loading times isn't as long as Ashens makes out or at least it isn't slow to me. The games are nice, I asked for a Wii U mainly because of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, EarthBound (virtual console) and Zelda: Wind Waker. I feel like the Wii U is a very underrated console, I love it and have spent 2 days non-stop playing games since I've bought it. It was definitely worth the cost and recommend buying it.
