This is a real flash back to real events that have caused a historical tragedy which has resulted in Cyprus being divided since 1974! Fascinating insight ... particularly as they were able to live though the invasion in the mountains ... in bliss? I would love to know what forced them to leave and why they left ... as it was peaceful in the mountains ...? Would be a very interesting follow up interview ...

So interesting! Helena is such a great storyteller. It is so shocking listening to her story with all the moving especially in the escape from Morphou to the mountains. Thank you for arranging this interview, super interesting content!

Súper interesting interview. I listened to your mum’s story last night and now this one. Fascinating insights into a diaspora I know so little about. Thank you. I was wondering if you could tell me more about the uncle occupying that house in Kritoutera (apologies for the spelling!) where had the tenants gone and why? Thanks!

I do not think that you will have any problem with the mainland turks whatsoever. You find good and bad people in every community and the good news is thst most people are good people.I served the turkish army for a year in early 90's and the location was a stone's throw away from where you lived after the turkish invasion.

Similar life with Helen Sage I was born in Cyprus. Migrated to London in 1957 at the age of 14 months. My family was planning to repatriate in 1975. I returned in 1973 and joined the Cypriot National Gaurd as a volunteer . Fought in the 1974 war I was 18 years old. My family lost everything in Cyprus and returned back to the UK July 1975. Repatriated in 2006. So true about who us UK cypriots are. The local Cypriots call us Charlies and the British call us Bubble and Sweak meaning Greeks. I also feel quite stateless in the same way...

the call to prayer is not to taunt people it’s a religion that turkish cypriots have. but one thing you didn’t talk about is the oppression and genocide the turkish cypriots faced from eoka-B
