A Local Audiophile Builds A Great Audio System & Soundproof Home Theater

Музыка

It was an honor and privilege to meet Mitch, a South Florida audiophile. He is older than me, but his journey stands as a huge inspiration to all of us. His impeccable story of starting something fresh and rebuilding an interest from scratch will move us for sure. Most of the audio devices he used are different than the ones in my setup. But, just like he mentioned, setting and tuning the audio devices are the keys to building an awesome audio system. Comment below if you own devices that are different from or similar to those shown in the video. Please share your struggles or successes regarding your audio system setup. I await your reply. Your support and interaction mean the world 🌎 to me.
Just like Mitch, you and your audio system setup can be an inspiration for the Audio Community. Send your story at jayaudiolab@gmail.com
About Me
👨🏽‍🦲👋🏽 Hi, I am Jay! My audio journey began over a decade ago when I started as a simple consumer who enjoyed trying different power amplifier brands in order to understand their unique sonic characteristics. This led me to own over 300 power amplifiers with thousands upon thousands of hours of trial and error. My curiosity never stopped, so I began to explore new speaker brands, pre-amplifiers, cables, DACs and many other components to form the ultimate audio system. My relentless pursuit of knowledge is what led me to create Jay's Audio Lab LLC, so I can help you build an awesome system that will sweep you off your feet! Knowledge is power!
Are you tired of buying the wrong audio components for your sound system? Are you spending your hard-earned money on this hobby and not getting anywhere? Let me help you avoid the same mistakes!

⌛ A Quick Summary of the Video
Mitch invited me and my team to his home, and we were mesmerized by his dedication and the years he spent building such a synchronous audio system. Being an audiophile, I say this on behalf of our audio community: His relentless efforts paid off. We played music on his system for 30 minutes, and they sounded so good.
He was kind enough to share his advent into the wonderful audiophile world through Bose 601 speakers and a Kyocera integrated amplifier in the 1990s. He also shared that his first significant move was to buy Metalock speakers, followed by acoustic speakers, Rebel Studios speakers, and Magico speakers. Now, Mitch uses the Rockport Avior II. The Avior II sound presented enhanced transparency and detail compared to the original version. It displayed rich textural fluidity and commanding dynamic fidelity throughout all frequencies. The Avior II's beryllium tweeter, mounted on a waveguide, reinforced the tweeter's acoustic impedance match at the lower range. It led to reduced distortion, an amplified dynamic expression, and improved dispersion characteristics at the crossover point between the midrange and the tweeter.
He continued that Rockport speakers sounded better than Magico's. However, he also mentioned that it might be due to the current room and its environment. Other equipment included the PS Audio BHK 600 Power Amplifier and VPI HW-40 Anniversary Direct Drive Turntable. Mitch used his engineering knowledge and experience to vouch for Taiyo Yuden's Extreme Isolation Transformer, which negates the need for expensive cables.
Mitch also gave us a tour of another equally equipped room and his home theater. His interest and passion showed when we saw that he installed excellent audio devices and soundproofed the home theater with cushion walls. He even went one step ahead and painted the home theater ceiling with acoustic paint.
It was a great experience to venture into his space and explore another audio experience. Subscribe to my channel for more such updates!

Fantastic system, MITCH. A super interesting man with great ideas. Great to 'meet' someone new, a new journey and interesting new combination. Seeing something different is always good to give people ideas. Such an interesting video. Hearing any Rockport is tricky in England - sadly. Many thanks MITCH and JAY. 👍

Great job Jay and Mitch! Mitch is local audio acquaintance and also proud to say, both a friend and a client. In fact, I sold him the incredible VPI HW-40 Black Edition Direct Drive turntable! One more thing, those who are hating on the acoustics of his main sound room based upon what their voices sound like through a mobile phone's mic at a considerable distance. C'mon guys. Seriously? I've been there. His room has a good balance of absorption and reflection. Respectfully, Oz LTBS

I totally get keeping the Vandersteens despite moving up the speaker food chain. I got my 3As in the early 90s also and they still bloom with each component upgrade. Absolutely not worth selling based on the price/ performance. when i do upgrade, these will go in a second system just as Mitch did.

What a great looking main audio system and I'm sure it truly sounds as good as it looks. I started out in audio at the same time (early to mid 90's), but have not even got close such high end gear in my journey...there's still time for me yet. Thanks for sharing and showcasing the many highlights of this system!

Have to be careful with iso transformers as they can limit dynamics, but this one looks pretty big, the more iron and copper the better! Plus it looks like a low capacitance design which is very important for low line noise pass-thru.

They're great. Some say unsightly, ok. I've got two essentially identical to that one, ... they're abundant on the used scene. Had mine since the 90's, they'll last forever. I believe mine are Topaz, the smaller ones are 2.5kva, unsure of the larger, but it's at least 3.6kva because it's rated at 30a. I have a pair of ONEAC iso transformers for smaller loads. Yes, need to assure there's ample peak current, absent of losses. For whatever reason, if a system benefits from isolation, it needs to be pursued (both to the wall, or inter-component isolation). I see Mitch's line cord tightly bundled into a mass, ... not the best idea. I'd either cut and re-terminate it just long enough, or lay the cord out along its length. (But that's an extraordinary nitpick observation in a sweet room a killer system all superbly optimized by Mitch's experience). Rockport, love those Rockport cabinets!

Jay-this is the eyedoc you met at Axpona 2023.I would like to suggest to Mitch to get a larger isolation transformer -5kv or so.I believe what he has is somewhat current limiting, attenuating his lower end. I've had similar transformers and had to go to 5 kv-which helped tremendously-without loosing a kidney on cost. They do clean up the mains quite a bit. I had mine wired for balanced A/C. 5 kv set up balanced would give him 20 amps of current.
