They don't want.... they want to sell DNA kits etc.... the boat is secondary... just a prop for the advertizing business. That is why they replied as they did.

I've heard about the poor police service from others living there, it sure has changed a lot from my day, I recall my mother calling the police because a pair of her knickers were missing from the washing line and 4 of them showed up, they even helped search the back garden. Needless to say she didn't get them back, but it was quite windy earlier that day, my mother was quite a large lady so I think they caught a bit of air and simply took off, UFKs, unidentified flying knickers, look out for them.

Just an idea, pre paid phone for wifi hot spot , cameras with solar power and the ability to yell at those kids from your personal phone when they come back.

Two suggestions (that you’ve probably already considered): (1) security shutters for the windows when you have to leave it: and (2) a cart or wheelbarrow to haul stuff from the car to the boat. Good luck.

You might consider putting "No Trespassing" signs and contact information on the boat. You could also install security cameras.

Great to see you guys back for the update . I feel ashamed that our police force couldn't be bothered to track those yobs down especially when their faces were so clear . Put the incident down to bad luck and experience and use the incident as the push needed to get the boat in to a more finished condition . You do well to cultivate the good will of the other boat owners , is there a " neighbourhood watch " group there that is specific for canal users or could you band together a form one i'm sure it would work . Anyway that aside , good to see you back .

It is sad when criminal action is ignored. On the other hand it is so good to see you upbeat and marching forward. Can't wait for the next one

Im just as annoyed at the people recording. They easily could of prevented at least some of the damage but chose to record instead. Boggles my mind.

If the wanted to the Police could have identified those kids in a day or so and possibly prevented them from going on to commit even bigger crimes. The mentality of modern policing is imbecilic.

Non-issue. I'm not personally interested in DNA kits, so I skipped through the ad and would have regardless of whether the ad was 4% of the video or 40% of it. The length of the promo makes no difference when you can simply skip past it.

I had commented on your “We got raided” video suggesting to show the video to the schools nearby. You’ll be able to locate them and the police will be able to follow through with charges. Also, there are some circumstances here in the USA that parents can be liable for their bad ass babies’ damage. Also, sometimes their homeowners insurance sometimes will cover costs of damages as well… Good Luck!!!

Marina or offside mooring fees may seem expensive but they're worth it for security and peace of mind.Hard standing charges are also cheaper than a berth.

I would suggest using perspex window glazing with the mirror finish for your next window replacement fixtures, they can be cut to fit exactly into your existing frames...

Don't give up. There are TV programs that work on interior decorating and designing spaces. You could get a lot of work done by experts. I think House Rescue is one. George Clarkes amazing spaces is another etc etc. it might even be free if they get a program out of it. such a novelty to as your on a historical steam dredger.

How do the local police close a case where there is clear video footage of the suspects vandalising your boat? This is why juvenile delinquents become hardened criminals. They are allowed to get away with what may appear to be a petty crime by some. They will turn to more serious offences because they will believe that they will get away with it again. Or maybe one of the suspect is related to an important person???

That will do nothing schools have a duty of care and this means they need to protect the children including their identity it would also be illegal for the school to disclose any information to random strangers that walk in with pictures of them asking for names and addresses.

@@neilowens8013 The police will not follow up as the police no longer investigate lesser / petty crimes hence why it was close after just a week, same issue if your car is stolen or house broken into they will not investigate and will simply give you a crime number and send you off to your insurance company. You are incorrect schools do indeed have a duty of care regardless of if a crime has been committed, if you walk into a school and show video of the crime the school will not and do not have to give you the personal details of the kids and are legally prevented from doing so even if they wanted to heck they would not even acknowledge if the kids went to school at that location as that alone would be a breach of duty of care and data protection and they would point you to the police, as it is only the police that can request the personal information but the police have zero interest in these small crimes hence why they closed it already and did not go round schools.

Yeah was wondering this too. Dont need to get the kids names or anything, just ask if the kids are confirmed to go to that school, and to pass on a message on @DuoVagari behalf to the parents (again without knowing who they are), or even have the police follow up once the school the kids go to is identified. The school can protect the kids that way, but also pass on your details to the parents and the parents can reach out (if they are decent people).

So sorry you guys, I watched most of the joy that you both were having with your project just ripped away in the damage video you posted. I don't know if somebody may have posted this idea in a earlier post. Use a ladder and put a game camera out of reach up in one of the trees looking down on your boat for some added insurance just in case they come back. Maybe use locking metal storm covers over windows that also can be opened up with a key and or removed after your construction is completed. They would be good for security when your not aboard??

As someone already said take it to the tv stations and news outlets, I live in Vancouver Bc and it seems when they get the stations involved it does seem to get results worth a try and post their pics everywhere .

how about a dry dock, you wont have to worry about people and you can build it in peace.

Could you not put steel shutters over all the windows when you are not on the boat. They could stow away quite easily when not in use.

I feel so sad this has happen but on another note by the power of those videos you two have brought up a common problem that's gone far beyond just a simple thing. You have open other eyes on a generation that seams to think it's OK to do what ever they think is fun without any circumstances. I hope and are praying that those boys parents see those videos or other people's talking about their kids take on them selfs to dish out some form of repayment / punishment/ or inbaresment for them!!!

Bad things happen to good people. You two should revile in the positive energy from your fans. I do like the 'take the video to the schools' idea. That will yield the best results and could be a learning opportunity for the schools. Once a face is put to the victims of vandalism, it's no longer funny. When the kids are caught, how about some restorative justice? Get them to help with the boat, painting etc. an extra pair of hands. Channelling their energy might pay off for both of you. You're fishing kids are just kids and examples that all kids are not all bad.

great attitude, with the set backs, I'm sure this has been mentioned by others, but have you looked into mariners that rent space to work on your boat ?? Have seen others whom have done this. Cursin' the cut may be able to assist if finding reasonable workspace for you and your boat. Just my two cents, have a great day !!

If the police finally receive positive proof as to the identity of the people who caused the damage to your boat, you should itemize the total cost of having to replace and repair as well as monetary payment to compensate you for your labor to refit the new Windows. Then maybe the parents will educate their kids that these actions have consequences.

Cover up any windows from the inside if people do not know if you are in or out they won't bother also a pad lock on the outside says your not in

live onboard when you renovating or this will happen none stop, camping mattresses, sleeping bags, and pizzas, as it gets more finished it will be targeted even more, I knew someone with one on the Lee and he gave up eventually, it was just to much hassle replacing stolen and vandalised items,

From the sound of it, your law enforcement only works, up to and until they are told to actually work. They are there to uphold the law for the community, individuals be dammed.

This unfortunately is just how the UK police are now, it used to be that they would actually be out in force to prevent crimes and investigate all crimes big and small, now you rarely ever see police out walking the community and police have openly stated that they will not investigate what they consider lesser crimes, so was your house broken into or your car stolen or your shed vandalized all the police will do is give you a crime number and tell you to go see your insurance company, and your case will be put in the close after 30 days folder where it will sit to never be looked at again except to close it which is in most cases done automatically.

Back in my day when I was the culprits age, the Police would have quickly identified the kids and they would have been given a telling off followed by another telling off by the parents. Now they just get away with it because the Authorities cannot be bothered. The message the Police give out is clear, carry on committing crime because we wont bother to do anything about it. Its appalling!

take the video of those kids to the local schools and show staff, Teachers or principle... I promise someone will know the identity of those kids.. My guess is the cops don't Want to help because a parent is Either a important person in the community OR on the police force..My guess is they KNOW the identity.. why else would they close a case within a week..? Ray Charles could obtain the identity of those kids with the Video Evidence...

Why the police have closed the case I don't know!!! after all, its criminal mischief. If I was the law their punishment would be to have their bikes, xBox's, Phones, (If they have one) Their most prized possessions destroyed in front of them so they would get to know how it feels. If a child of mine did that that's what I would do and his pocket money would go to you until the damage was paid for. My heart go's out to you, after all the hard work you have put in. Maybe they need to look at they are overstaying on canal network and have been reported they seem to think they are except

Sad times on the canals as the CRT is kicking off people living on the canals .They are going after the poor first, taking them to court first. But the CRT needs to fix the lock gates and use the the money there , and not kick people off the canals just for living on there boats .

Before you start these projects you need to have in place sufficient time, money and a place to safely store it. Otherwise progress is too slow and it tends to fall into a heap.

I'm from the states and I don't really want to dog the police that much, because I have worked with him and I know here, probably as there, there are things that seem a much higher priority, though, doesn't help how you feel. About it and how most people in the same set of circumstances would feel. I do hope in some way you find them and they are made to pay or make restitution. Not only because it's the right thing to do, but because. They didn't appear to be super young.So they have to learn one way or another that you can't get away with mistreating other people that way

Shame the police closed the case so seemingly soon. Hopefully, those kids realized the trouble they could have gotten into along with the financial risk they placed on their parents.....Just trying to say something positive when inside, I wish they were caught and the parents held liable. That said, I commend you both on your positive attitude and determination to plow forward with your nautical dream!!

Quite amazing given the fact the number of CCTV systems mounted around the UK today. Apparently CCTV is once more proven not to render any useful leads.

Careful with any of the DNA companies... Effectively you are not just giving them your DNA, but also that of any blood relatives. Police have used databases like these to match sibling DNA etc

They clearly do not have to worry about their local police. They can't even trace suspects with cleare video footage as evidence.

I do hope that you continue on your dream and that the culprits get caught and learn from their pathetic anti social behaviour . They obviously are not starving of mistreated themselves and their parents should be held responsible for their actions if that is another story for our law makers .

Its a bit ridiculous that the police wont pursue this case.. You have video of a kid committing a crime. Why they themselves haven't sent a few pictures round the schools is incredible. They could have had this cleared up in a matter of days.

I cannot say that I am surprised the police closed the case of your windows being broken, it seems that the police are more concerned with "hate speech" than actually upholding real laws that have been on the books for hundreds of years (theft, vandalism, etc). I really hope that you are able to get some actual justice concerning the windows. I think the parents of the children involved should step forward and pay for the damage done by their kids, at a minimum. Best of luck to you and please keep posting videos, as I am sure many people check in to see your progress.

They are local, start at the schools. I am sure you will easily identify them. Im sure their parents will pay for all the damage without complaint given this will not be how they were raised. Can’t believe law enforcement don’t have the capacity to follow this up.

Send the repair bill to the police. I bet that might reawaken their interest in the case. I’m British and it makes me ashamed to be called so when this sort of thing happens. How can we the British have faith in the police system. makes you wonder if one of the sprogs’s father is a copper. I hope you get justice and don’t give up naming and shaming.

To be honest, I'm not surprised at all about the reply of the police, or maybe just a little bit anyway, because I did not expect that they even knew how to send an email. It really should have been quite an easy task pour anyone touching a salary as a police-detective to find the wherebouts of two little scrotes, futur gangsters that surely did not come from faraway, unless of course their parents are working for (read are being present, as working is like swearing for the police) the police, which would be understandable, as the police and their children can not do something that is against the law (but they do, I speak from experience).
